quote:
If you were meeting with the CEO of your company or the President of the United States would you address either one of them as "Dude?" Not likely. How much more respect do we owe our Lord and Savior? Well, we aren't intimately connected with our CEOs or president. Christ is our friend and brother. Yes, He is God Almighty and worthy of all worship honor and praise, from before the start of time until eternity, but He was also born a human child, lived a human life, died a human death. He came in the flesh. Now, if those phrases you quoted were used for effect, to make Jesus "more accessible," then I would have a problem with it; just as I would have a problem with people who use much loftier terms in their public prayers than they do in their private, though of course I cannot judge that. But if they used them because that is genuinely how they address people they are close with, then where is the problem? Where in Scripture does it limit how we may address God in our prayers (barring, of course, something simply and plainly disrespectful, crude, or offensive)?
