There's a really really really good chicken meal in the cookbook called Chicken Capri. It's VERY filling. Chicken cooked half on the stove, then in the oven for the last 20 min or so. When it's put in the oven it's topped with a ricotta cheese mixture (ricotta cheese, parm, oregano), canned diced tomatoes, and mozz cheese. Oh it's SOOOO yummy. I've made it too much now and I'm not allowed to make it anymore. but I just love it. (I"m a HUGE fan of cheese.)

I'm not even on SB, but this sounds sooo good! I'm going to try to make it tonight for dinner :)

I just made a cheesecake that I *think* is close to qualifying for SB phase 1

mmmmm, I can't wait until it comes out of the oven!

Well, 5 days on SB phase 1! I think we're doing ok. We had small group last night and she had muffins and bits and bites for snack. I just had a glass of water. Hubby couldn't resist the Bits'n'bites though...
Anyway, we're doing alright, I haven't really cheated aside from using pre-made salad dressings (the ones in the book are ) And sometimes giving hubby fruit flavoured yogurt.
But I haven't eaten anything they've brought in at work this week: Chocolate cake with boiled icing, chocolate bars, donuts, and boxes of chocolates. YAY!! I have frequented the coffee machine though. Only once a day, so that's not too bad. I never have more than 2 cups of coffee a day.

I found a new safe snack... dill pickles!! They meet the "crunch" craving

I found my SB book and am reading it. I'm enjoying bagels, popcorn and trail mix tonight because I'm seriously thinking about starting phase I tomorrow, although I'll have to make a few adjustments to it. I don't like the taste of low fat cheese, I like sugar free light yogurt and dark meat chicken. Other than those changes, I think I might be able to do it.

I'm back on the ball as of today. It's sad how easily I get off track. Pray for me as I go back through the "detox" phase and get all this sugar and bad carbs out of my system.

Yes, I lost 4 pounds the first 7 days. I'm in week two...

Strangely, I lost 4 pounds the week before I started SB too...

We let our gym membership expire since DH is walking a lot as part of his work study, and I'm working crazy hours and having trouble finding time to go to the gym. I borrowed this set of exercise dvd's from a friend- I did the first one today, and they're hard core. I"m not sure I got as much as I could out of them because I could only do about 1/3 of the exercises. I bet I'll still be sore tomorrow though! She also loaned me a few "easier" ones with the same guy, so I may do those instead for a while.

Stacy - even if you only do 1/3 of them, you're doign more than you were. If they are really hard, do an easier version of the moves. You are still getting a work-out, and eventually you'll be able to do more.

That's what I figured. I never knew there were so many different variations to push ups. About half of the exercises required a chin up bar- not only can I NOT do a chin up, but we don't have a bar either.
Its a set of 12 dvds where each one works a different area, so I'm doing a different one each day until I get through all 12 (I'm not sure if that's how you're "supposed" to do it or not, but its what I'm planning to do).

If any of you use Whey Low, I found this coupon code on another site. The coupon code BOO will give you a free2lb pkg of whey low granular and a 2lb pkg of whey low type D! For any order over 50.00. I didn't try it myself because I didn't want to order that much the first time. I also learned that their newsletter, which is posted on their site, almost always has a code in it. I did use that one to get 15% off. I ordered the granular sugar, the "D" version, and the gold.

I've now lost a total of 22#. It's been slow going, but I hope that doing it this way will make it more likely the pounds will stay off.

Wow, 22 pounds! That's awesome! Congratulations!

I haven't been on in a long time, but I was wondering if anyone was still doing the C25K. DH and I finished the program about a month ago. We're now running a little over three miles a day in thirty minutes, but keeping ourselves motivated to do it isn't as easy now that we're not building towards a new goal every week. Any suggestions from someone who has completed it and is still motivated to run?

What is your ultimate goal for your body?

I want to be lean - I have the ability to be that way, pudge-less and without jiggles. I no longer want to look at myself and say, 'I can't wear that because I'm heavy for my weight/not toned' or reject myself any longer. I want to love my body and no longer be at war with it. I have 15 pounds to lose and it seems like 15 pounds which has been going on for more than a year. I don't think that's healthy. More like torture to the mind. I keep procrastinating and saying that I'll get everything organized and THEN stick with a plan, but then, another excuse emerges! Do I really want to lose this weight? Sometimes I wonder! It used to be just so the boys would accept me more, but now, I'm moving more towards being more loving to my body and respecting it.

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?

Yes, I want to start the 10 minute meal work plan on AnneCollins.com - when I get back from vacation. My biggest fear though is will I be too hungry? I seem to eat more than provided!

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?
Tsk, if I truly believed that I would reach this goal before the end of the year, I think I'd be getting somewhere. Just shows how much I believe I will make it! I hate thinking so negatively, but this has been going on for so long!

If you aren't able to start working out now (pregnant mommas!! ) when do you intend to start reaching your goal?
I walk a great deal at work -hardly sit down, but getting another work out in would be good. I spend too much time online to fit it in after work ...it appears.

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?

Even dropping from 140 pounds to 138 would get me started! I had dropped 1.5 in one week, but put it back on again so, I'm a little skeptical....

Funnily, I don't know why I am so negative when the times I have attempted to lose weight, I've never stuck with it. Am I just not trying hard enough and going with my emotions too much...I think that's very true....unfortunately. I think I need to pray about this tonight!

Jenn I have done the c25k twice. You can either train for an 8k or a 10k (6.2 miles) next

Either that or stick to base building which is usually one tempo run, a hill/speedwork run and a long slow distance per week. Or work up to running for a set amount of time, like an hour.

This is why a lot of people do a lot of races because without a goal, you get bored running the same run every week.

I've slacked off on the p90x dvd's. One of my kids gave me a cold, and I just wasn't up to doing anything extra the past few days. I need to get back on track.
DH will be starting South Beach on Monday. He has quite a bit of weight to lose, and prayers would be appreciated.

Well, this has been a rough week for me, so I don't know how tomorrow morning will be on the scale. I've been under 200 lbs. these last two weeks, but I just have a feeling that I'm probably back over it again. I'm struggling with staying away from high carb foods and sweets, especially late at night on the computer. Today, I did well except for a large bowel of sugar free ice cream for dessert. As long as I don't pig out on any more carbs, I should be okay.

What I need to do is remember the accomplishments that God has helped me achieve since starting eating low carb three years ago this December. I just found out that I can get into my SMALLEST swimsuit that I've not been able to wear for years! I don't know why this doesn't stop me from eating too much, but sometimes, despite these achievements, I can't seem to stop myself from overeating.

I went to yoga monday and tomorrow I plan on going again.
I only got in one run this week but next week I will stop at the gym on my way home and try to make it a habit - time is changing soon and I won't run/walk in the dark and cold by myself. I can't run far enough to join the running group yet either. (need to be able to do at least 3 miles at a decent pace)

Smokey - you're achievements have been simply incredible!!!! But I can certainly see why you would slip up occasionally - 3 yrs is long time to go lowcarb. Low carb is incredibly hard to do, imho. I love carbs!! So, don't be too hard on yourself. You are a star!!!

Question for the experienced South Beach ladies:
DH is about 12 days into phase 1 (and down 11 or so lbs ), but within the past 2-3 days has noticed his stomach hurting. He says its a cross between feeling like a pulled muscle and feeling like he's so hungry it hurts, but that eating doesn't help. He hasn't done anything that would pull a muscle, and he doesn't have any other signs of something being wrong (no fever, etc). Is it possible this is just the feeling of his body burning off stuff that's been there a while, or a delayed reaction to the lack of carbs in his diet right now? He's been eating lots of protein and drinking plenty of water.

Has his bowels been moving regularly? Constipation is a common side affect.

If he's eating extra veggies and fiber, it could be gas.

Um...yes. No issue with that.

We're thinking it might be related to all of the VERY spicy food he's been eating the past few days.

Boy, we've fallen off the face of the earth here! Where is everyone? How are y'all doing?

Well, I got a good look at myself in the mirror getting out of the shower this weekend... not a pretty sight at all! I was pretty depressed about it for a couple of days, but right now I'm motivated and hopeful. I feel like I can really do this now!

I hit the grocery store and stocked myself up on healthy foods for the office. I've decided that I'm not going to stress about what my mom fixes for dinners and whether they fit my "plan". I'm just going to eat a sensible amount of whatever deliciousness she's made and enjoy it. I'll be focusing on doing South Beach again too.

I just did my first C25K run in ages. I thought I was going to die about half way through! I've been dealing with some asthma/bronchitis issues the last couple of weeks and was pretty sure I was not going to make it through the whole workout. Well, praise the Lord, not only did I get through, but my lungs are feeling the clearest they have since I started getting sick!

Thanks for bringing this back from the dead Kat.

How is everyone doing?
Ryanne? Stacy? Anyone else who was doing C25K? (I dont' remember who else was doing it)
