It's almost noon. Must run. I am dreading it today (not typical). Probably because I have eaten so poorly this morning and I know what my run is going to do to me.... The first stage of SB is no carbs, right?

The first stage of SB is no carbs, right? Yes, basically. You receive small amounts of starch that naturally occurs in some veggies. But it is minute. I'm usually okay day one and two.... then day 3, 4, and 5 aren't pretty. By the time I reach day seven, I'm feeling energized and my random body aches are lessened. Stage 2 is where you spend the bulk of the time. It is a perfectly adequate diet. I love berries.....and those come back. Apples and cheese, too. One thing about this diet: it is very clean. You notice that you feel better after eating differently for about a month. I'm looking forward to that feeling again.

I would love to try the SB diet. I had attempted it but never got past a couple of days. It was hard to do it on my own while cooking for hubby and kids. I'm not sure I would be able to get hubby on board with it.

My Dad uses the Type D, it's diabetic safe. I've never seen Whey Lo, and their "where to buy it" section doesn't list any stores at all in AZ, which would explain why. We do like agave and honey (although I'm not sure how either one would taste in coffee).

Okay, I have finally started to make an honest effort towards losing weight. I am in need of some help though. I need to loose about 100 lbs. I know it will take more than just counting calories. What would be a good starting point as far as how many calories to consume to lose weight? Also, should I track other items such as carbs, fat? What do you ladies do? And to start, would 15 min of exercise a day be good?

What do you ladies do? And to start, would 15 min of exercise a day be good? I'm just getting started with this, but I've found the Leslie Sansone walking dvds to be very good for me. When I first got the one with the belt, I had a hard time keeping up and just did two miles. Now I can do all three miles with just taking a short water break between miles two and three. I'm also adding hand weights to make it more challenging. Each mile takes about 15 minutes, so you could just start with one and work up. I've tried other types of exercise, but my knees always end up hurting. Leslie varies the exercises enough that my knees don't bother me.

Start a Counting Calorie account and they will help you determine how many calories you need to eat to lose weight by the answers you give to their questions. You will want to consume nutrient rich foods to make sure you get adequate vitamins and minerals (such as nuts, fruits, seeds, dried beans, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats.) I would exercise for 1 hour and then up the intensity as you are able instead of starting at 15 minutes. For example, I would walk leasurely for the first walking session and then a week into the walking regime, I would pick up the pace and keep picking it up over the weeks as you are able. It is not wrong to start with 15 minutes and work yourself into longer, more intense intervals.

What do you ladies do? And to start, would 15 min of exercise a day be good? A good site to get information about counting calories, recommended fat, protein and carb amounts, etc. is www.sparkpeople.com. The site has a lot of tools to help you track your food intake and exercise, motivational articles, and teams with people who share common interests with their own forums, as well as the site's main message board. There are some Christian teams on there. As for me, I'm using a new low carb plan that I designed myself. I'll post it in a separate post, so I won't make this one excessively long. My exercise plan is to do at least 15 minutes of cardio exercise three days a week and do three days of strength training on Tues, Thurs. and Sat., which reminds me, I forgot to do that today.

This is my current Low Carb Healthy Eating Plan (I refuse to use the word "diet", since I associate that word with Garfield's "Die with a T" ) Breakfast: 1 serving of protein, which is any one of the following: 1 oz. cheese, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 2 slices bacon, 1 egg, along with 1 cup skim milk. Alternately, I can have 1 measured serving of cereal or oatmeal and 1 cup skim milk. Morning Snack: Any one of the protein choices listed above, 1 serving vegetable, or 1 fruit. Lunch: 1 serving meat or protein item listed above, 1-2 servings salad or vegetable, and 1 cup skim milk. Afternoon Snack: One protein item, plus 1 cup skim milk, or 1 (6 oz.) container light yogurt. Dinner: Same as lunch, except I may have two servings of a protein item listed above instead of one. I may also have a 1/4 to 1/2 serving of a carb item or dessert at this time. Dessert/Evening Snack: Any one of the following: 1/4 cup trail mix, 1/2 cup sugar free ice cream, 1 sugar free ice cream bar, 3 sugar free cookies, 2-3 pieces sugar free candy NOTES: If I have dessert at dinnertime, then I can only have trail mix or 1 serving protein item listed above as snack. Milk: 3 cups skim milk daily, plus up to 3/4 cup in coffee. Carb items: I can eat a maximum of 3 items daily, which include: bread, cereal, pasta, rice, potatoes, corn, peas, beans, baked goods, sweets, pancakes, etc. Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays: 1 serving sugared sweet item may be eaten for dessert for Sundays and holidays. Also, I may have up to 5 carb item servings on those days.

I went ahead and moved to c25k week 3. Yolanda, you were right, it wasn't as hard as week 2. Oddly, though the music track I was using (Christian indie) seemed to end before the workout should have been finished. It didn't seem like the cool down time was included in the track. I did go back and check, and I got the entire track, so I'm not sure if I mis-counted or missed a cue somewhere. Why is it that I can run on a treadmill until my lungs give out, but 2 minutes on an elliptical machine or exercise bike has my knees aching? It must use a different set of muscles or something.

I always found the Elliptical was hard on my knees. I guess my feet naturally turn out a little, and on the elliptical, they have to be straight ahead, and it feels unnatural on my knees. Yay Stacy, I'm glad you like week three!! I did week 4 for the first time last night. I thought i was going to pass out, but I did finish it!!

I gained 1/2 an lb since last week. I did not do well at sticking to my plan and ate out too many days last week. but I have done great this week so far, except we brought home food last night from Chili's. But I ate the meat, veggies and then picked at the potatoes. I did weights yesterday. And I am not that sore today! Yeah! I have pilates today and running tonight. My next goal is to keep up with my exercise for the rest of the week. I have yet to finish a week of all of my days of exercise. Way to go on the 2 lbs Tammy! That is awesome!

I"ve been told I walk like a duck...I'm not sure what that means, but the inside edges of my shoes always wear out faster than the outside edges. Anyone else using the indie christian c25k tracks have a problem with feeling like week 3's track skipped the cooldown period?

I think that was the week I had trouble with, Stacy, but I forget now. I just know there was one of the weeks that didn't work quite right.... From what I recollect, I downloaded it again and it was fine. Totally weird....

Oh, I know what you guys might be talking about for week 3? It goes 5 minute warm up 90-sec run 90-sec walk 3-min run 3-min walk repeat... In my podcast, the second time through, it went straight to the cooldown after the 3 minute run, instead of doing a 3 minute recovery period and then the 5 minute cooldown. Week 3 was a bit shorter than the rest. Did that make any sense? Is that what you mean?

I logged into spark people again finally. I think I had signed up in like 06 or something, but I never used it. Took a look at it and it looks really good. I think it will hellp me plan my meals much better. My problem is I never get enough variety. I get stuck on just a few items and then get off track.

Well, ask us for ideas so that doesn't happen. I get bored with the same food, too.

I really don't recollect as I'm not using the podcasts anymore as there aren't intervals after you get to a certain point.... Ok, I don't think we've discussed this...so here goes. What kinds of things can be purchased cheaply that are healthy? I have a list that is semi-set, but I need some new ideas.
