I majored in Computer Science/Engineering, and looking back, I wish I had gotten a double major in Finance. Many of the people I work with (for) are making six figures straight out of college with finance degrees as traders and research analysts. However, finance majors do their best in the job market when they are graduating from either nationally well-known flagship state schools or a handful of brand-name private schools.

Computers aren't too bad. Right out of college I went to work for a company that manufactured computers, and I was making six figures within a few years. I'm sure it happens much more quickly with traders, but hey, I didn't have nearly the stress either.

My very first project in the business world involved setting up a bunch of storedprocs on MS SQL Server. Turning an E/R diagram into a smoothly running database is tough work, and I have a lot of respect for any DBA that knows his stuff.

Thats cool. Yeah, I know how tough it is. Makes me thankful for project groups, if one thing accidently gets overlooked there will always be someone there to catch it during the evalution of system plans. BTW, cool username. Born and raised in NY.

Born and raised in NY. Yeah. Depending on where you wind up, they don't have that quite as much group work in industry. You are ultimately responsible for the reliability of your own part of the code, although my friend who is a DBA will often ask her boss for code reviews. I grew up in IL and went to school at UIUC, but NYC is a nice place to be a yuppie (Actually, programmers are probably considered blue-collar here ). It would just be nice if there were more Christians out here...

Yeah, thats the best way to ensure top notch coding. I have a friend who is a network engineer back home. Poor guy still lives with his parents because he can't afford the taxes. Down here in Florida, there are no state taxes to worry about. But the get you when you need to get a license plates. Most of the christians are 1 hour in each direction from NYC.LOL I was an hour north of the city and it was nice till the town grew up.
