3.32 is the "consensus" here in the DFW area....of course, it's easier to find higher priced gas, but on my commute, I saw 3.32 at a couple of places.
Found out late last week that my company is SERIOUSLY looking into offering a "4-day work week" as a benefit to employees who would want to participate. Since I have a 70-mile roundtrip commute, that would be great.
Right now, they are going around to each department and making sure that there would be no "logistical" issues involved with such a plan. (especially maintaining adequate staffing in our manufacturing facilities)..

My brother moved to Lakewood a year or so ago, but he commutes back to Duncanville/Cedar Hill area. He and my sister-in-law ended up getting rid of their cars and buying two Hondas. That seems to be working out great. The mileage is really good.
His commute is still better than what mine used to be -- from Southwest Arlington to Southlake. 37 miles one way and additional driving up and down 635. I do not miss that. Don't even want to imagine what my gas bill would be.

My current commute is from my home in far east carrollton/west plano to far north fort worth (right off of loop 820). 35 miles each way. It only takes me about 50 minutes, and RARELY am i ever "stuck in traffic"....
I will have gas mileage at the "top of the list" of things to consider when it comes time to replacing my current car (but nothing TOO small that would sacrifice comfort/leg room....not to mention having room for the 3 kids in the event that we need to all use my car for taking the family somewhere)...but, i have a '97 buick now....and runs awesome. no reason to get rid of it yet. Sure, I could save money on gas, but, the car i have now has been "paid for" for years.
as far as moving closer: I think i've mentioned this a MILLION times, but, I like where I live, and, this is my 4th job in the 12 years I have lived here. Jobs will ALWAYS move (I have worked in Richardson, Farmer's Branch, Garland, and now Fort Worth).....thankfully, I live in a fairly "central" location, that makes even a commute to Fort Worth "doable" everyday.....with easy access to all the tollways and freeways.....there's no telling where my next job MAY be located (if there is a "next" job)...who knows?

That's great about not hitting traffic.
I know what you mean about liking where you live. We loved Southwest Arlington (not too far from Lake Arlington) even though the traffic was horrendous driving to Southlake. My brother is also loving Lakewood. His house is about two blocks from White Rock Lake, so he's guttin' it up on the commute. When he lived in Cedar Hill, his commute was 4 miles.

I've heard a lot of people talking about the four day work week. Some of the school bus drivers in our church talking about it, too, because some of the schools around here are thinking about going to a four day school week, but then they'll have to go year around because the law says in our state that they have to do 180 days. The bus drivers didn't seem to think it was a good idea.

Our school district started the four day week two years ago, but they only take off every other Friday. In Colorado the school requirement is calculated by hours, so the school district extended the school day by 25 minutes to meet the requirement.

Saw several 3.19's this morning and one 3.17.
There is talk here in the county of going to four days, I am all in favor of it, but the big question is "what will it benefit the county?" Nothing, since they will still have to be open 5 days a week and that with longer hours too. So I'm not holding my breath....

.... initially, I thought I'd love a 4 day work week...
... but then I saw a news piece about how they are already doing it (or close to it) in Salt Lake City. They interviewed a mom of a special needs child who will have to truly overcome outlandish circumstances (expense wise) in order to make sure her son is still taken care of...
Makes me think of the special activities my girls do sometimes... or will be doing....
I'm not sure if it's such a 'win-win' idea after all....

My husband and i are retired, so our finances are limited, we make a list of all we need and do it all with one trip.Of course we are tired after a full day of going, but it is worth it. we keep the list at least 3 days before going just to make sure we don't forget something. More important than anything we ask GOD to bless our finances, our hands, and help us to find favor with HIM and man. HE NEVER FAILS.

Hi monk-monk and welcome to the boards!
I don't have a vehicle at all right now. Most places I go are within two or three miles of my house and the bus only takes me about half way to most of those places. One church that I attend is about 14 miles away and the bus doesn't even come close to going there. So, I usually don't take the bus at all. I guess that could be a good thing since bus fare is $1.75.

Funny thing happened yesterday with the storm heading into the Gulf.
I wanted to fill my tank and on the way into work saw gas for $3.27 at one station, and $3.29 at another up the road. I thought "OK, I will fill up on the way home this afternoon." Well, the 3.29 had gone up to 3.38 and the 3.27 jumped to 3.49!
I waited 'till I got near home where they have been steady at 3.32...

Thanks Roberta, our only problem is, we live in such a small town, they don't know what a bus is. We live within 2 miles of everything so it is really easy on us. We are retired and we also downsized to this small convenient town, 2 of our children live here also and that makes it even better.
With GOD we are all going to be o.k. no matter what the gas prices go to, or the gro's. either. We all need to stick together thru prayer, praying one for another. GOD BLESS and HAVE A GREAT LABOR DAY.

That's usually how that works. You still put in 40 hours a week - just doing so in four 10 hour days then in five 8 hour days.

Yes it could - but it would give you one extra day during the week to not be working. Right now where hubby works that is not an option. They have been working to full capacity 3 shifts all at a full 8 hours sometimes manadated 10 hour days and taking volunteers for weekend shifts. This should slow down come winter. Where he works tho engineers are finding it hard to hold on to their jobs, more so then the average factory floor worker. I guess they've laid of 15 or so engineers just in the last few weeks.
Gas prices here just went up. They were at about 3.79, but now with Gustav on it's way they've shot up to $3.84 hubby said.
And I didn't get the job I applied for so I guess I cut my driving down even more. As it is I hardly drive anywhere more then a couple times a week.

Yes but a lot of the 4x10 jobs are office jobs so its a long day but not physically demanding.

That would not be the case where I work at all. If I worked 4x10 hour days, I would need a 3 day weekend by then!
