Manda thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to get some the the granny panties lol. I'm a little nervous about the operation, I hope the recovery isn't too bad! Hopefully I'll be distracted by having Joshua here that I won't pay too much attention to the pain.

And at how many weeks are having it? If it will help, I can tell you a bit about my own recovery.

HMB, you can shave yourself at home and they won't have to do it at the hospital. I shaved myself, with no mirror (I'm sure didn't do that great of a job), and they didn't need to shave any more hair when I got to the hospital. You will probably need to shave about an inch of hair off the top. I've had two C-sections, and honestly don't think the recovery is anything compared to the agony of third trimester pregnancy aches and pains. And getting to skip over labor isn't too shabby either The first day is probably the worst, but you should still have great IV drugs in your system to take the edge off the pain. I was out of bed within about 10 hours of both of my C-sections. Sarah is right, get up out of bed early and move frequently. Walk the halls as much as the staff will allow. The incision is so low, you might be surprised how much you can move without experiencing pain. Some ladies find it helps the pain to press a pillow into the incision area when getting out of bed, a chair, and walking at first. Today hospitals really try to make the c-secion mirror the natural birth experience as much as possible. I held both my babies minutes after birth. I was able to nurse my son while he was still bloody & messy. I could have cut the cord myself if I wanted to My experience may not be like your experience, but I can assure you the staff will do everything they can to put you at ease and make your baby's birth special and memorable for you, and not just a medical event.

Heather, thank you for sharing with us. That's great that the SBA has been so helpful so far. Praying for you and your husband and your precious Joshua.

ORIGINAL: HMB22 TammyisBlessed~ We found out at our 20 week ultrasound that Joshua has spina bifida, so I'll have to have the c-section and he'll need surgery after he's born. Aw, that must be hard. But it's good that the doctors could find that out so early... it gives you time to prepare emotionally and the doctors can help your little guy better, knowing ahead of time what to expect. Still hard, though, I'm sure. Gabe felt the baby this morning! It's the first time he's kicked hard enough and we've had the timing down well enough for him to feel our little boy. Pretty exciting. Also, since school starts soon, Gabe got me a cell phone so that I won't have to be so nervous driving to and from work. It's just a pre-paid cell with 150 minutes/month, but I'll feel a lot better driving through Dallas at 6:00am if I have a phone with me I have these visions of me going into labor on the side of the road, in the dark, and having no way of getting ahold of him

Just curious, honestly just curious: How soon and what was your first pregnancy symptom? With Hunter it was just a missed period, but curious if anyone knew before that with their pregnancies.

sorry I have been out of touch for a while but was catching up with and read about the c-section question... My first C section was emergency and my son was taken to the NICU straight away and I was recovering that I didn't get to see him untill the next morning.. that was the reason why I got up so early..no one had to tell me....and I walked around for too much...so after I went home I was really hurting... my second c section was planned so I was much more calm...and I too did get up the next day but I didn't walk around too too much...and even though it was still painful... it wasn't as bad as the first time around. I think a lot of it also had to do with being prepared and had it all planned. Also, I tried to be a hero the first time around and I didn't take ANY pain killers.. this time around, at the hospital when I was hurting I asked for a pain killer and at home the first two days I still took stuff for the pain too...and I think that helped on the recovery. Manda is right about the grandma undies..but the good thing at the hospital is they give you those disposable mesh undies....they are sooo comfy and no worries about staining cause you just throw them out.. the hospital gave me a few to take home also so they came in handy. I went home in the same clothes that I went to deliver in.. they were nice and loose and they made me feel good and comfy. I hope I have helped in some way and if you have any more questions please ask again and I will try to answer.. Sherry

For me, with Nadia it was the severe abdominal cramping. Like I had to stop what I was doing and double over for about 15 minutes at a time. The pain was so bad that when it subsided I had to rest from it. I've never had pain like that. Well, of course there is labor, but you know what I mean. Unexplained pain, that is.... With Nadia, nausea at implantation. I couldn't finish eating supper and by the third evening of that Andrew suggested I take a pregnancy test. Lo and behold I was pregnant. Men are so smart. So how much does baby gain from here on out each week? I know some things say I should be eating such and such calories, but seriously I just can't get that all in in a day! I eat when I am hungry and it's healthy, do I need to worry about anything else? ETA: Baby is growing fine, my midwife thinks he is already 5lbs!
