Does anyone know if HMB22 had her baby yet? She's not posted since February here in this folder...

Hi ladies, sorry I've been quite for a long time! I've been crazy busy and only get the chance to log on and read. I'm still pregnant we're having a little boy on Oct. 13th via c-section. He has some complications so that's the reason for the c-section.

Does anyone have a good list of what to pack for the hospital? Do I need to make any special considerations for a c-section?

Thanks in advance!!

There is a thread called Hospital/Labor Bags (or something like that). There are lots of lists there.

My parents came up yesterday and brought us their old couch. It's way better than our couch and less of a death trap (no gaping holes, no staples coming out, no strings trailing off the edges) than our old couch. One less thing to worry about when baby-proofing the apartment My mom and I also went and registered. It's pretty early for that, but I wanted to get it done before school starts again. All in all, it was a pretty fun/exciting day

I might have followed Erin every other step of this journey (annovulatory, PCOS diagnosis, getting pregnant, having a boy, etc.), but I think I'll sit this last one out and have my baby at ~40 weeks instead of 28 No offense to Erin, of course... she can jump the gun on things if she wants to

I have the flyer from my hospital and it looks like they offer the classes every other month and they last for 4 weeks. I don't want to take it so early that I forget everything, but I also don't want to have to miss class because I'm on the other side of the hospital giving birth

I think we started our series when I was 32 weeks. I would suggest NOT waiting that long =) I think the idea is for you to finish a few weeks before you're full term. So, depending on when the two before you're due would end, I would pick one based on the fact that you'll be less than 34 or 35 weeks when you finish.

I never did the birthing class, but I know a friend of mine waited until her last month of pregnancy and she only made it to one, maybe two of the classes and then had her baby ahead of schedule. So probably sooner the better if you want to make it through.

because of the number of classes and them only being every other month, and how far along you are now, I would say go ahead and get it out of the way. You won't forget what you learned...believe me, when you need the info you will remember or a nurse will remind you.

Yes you do!!

I'd recommend getting some big granny knickers that come right up to your belly button. Your incision will be sore and tender and usual undies are likely to rub on it and cause you problems. Big knickers are handy for securing sanitary towels as well, and you can throw them away afterwards (or bleach/wash them and use them for dusters!).

You might also want to get some baby oil to use on your pubic area afterwards, where they will have shaved you. It can get really itchy when it regrows. Or alternatively, start shaving that area beforehand (if you can find it! lol) or have a waxing done, so that they don't even need to shave you. Baby oil is handy to use on the scar area too, once it is healed and dry, because that can itch a bit too.

If I think of anything else I will let you know.

(My first baby, my ds - who is now 19! - was born by emergency C-section).

How are you feeling about the actual operation?

Manda...I don't think hospitals typically do that anymore...I have never been shaved, now anyone that I know who relatively recently has given birth.

Even though I went into labor early...I'd say take it end of the 2nd trimester first part of 3rd, that way you have time to prepare and stuff. Plus they (at least in ours) tell you some basic things about pregnancy. Luckily, on the first class we took she briefly went over breathing techniques....when the nurse showed up a few hours later to help deliver my baby we called it a pop quiz. I wonder if we get 1/2 our money back since we only took one class.

They do shave the top area for a c-section. I think that's what Manda was referring to for special things to back if you know you are having a section. Of course, there's lots of things you don't need if there's no chance of a vaginal delivery, too.

Sarah,

As Ruth said, Heather was asking about special considerations for C-sections - maybe you didn't notice that bit?

(unless you're saying that in the USA they don't shave women for C-sections any more?)

oh c-sec's....never mind. I would guess they do shave for that. I thought you were saying for vaginal delivery....sorry, I haven't really followed this thread since Justice came so I didn't know it was in reference to c's. sorry

No problem! Heather's posts are #2052 and 2053 earlier on this page <points up>

She is having a C-section because her little one has complications.

Arrgh. I have been healthy my entire pregnancy, until yesterday, when apparently my immune system decided it had worked hard enough and gave in to a nasty head cold. Today is my baby shower, and I feel awful. Blech! What bad timing!

Oh no! Being sick with anything when you are pregnant is nasty. Colds, stomach flu, diarrhea, it's all nasty. Because you can't take anything!! I mean the 'foodie' remedies work to a point, but most of the time you just have to wait it out. It's no fun. And it seems like recoup time takes longer. Ugh. My heart goes out to you, I hope you feel better very quickly.
