I'm sure your grandmother would be proud of you, Shaunii!

My stuff came today ... so far I have $800 worth of cookware, stainless and non-stick. 2 boxes have yet to be opened.

I never had a wedding shower, so this is a pretty neat thing.

Shaunii, so sorry to hear about your Grandmother, and so happy about the job! What a mixture of emotions you must be feeling. Remember to take care of yourself, and know we're praying for you. Hugs!

Di, that is so awesome! I've never won anything big like that, it must be so fun to unpack the boxes! My cookware is all mismatched pieces from wherever; if I had ever gotten married that would have been on my wish list! Hope the next boxes are just as good!

Good news about VBS, and praying that little Josie does well with the tear duct procedure.

Trish, how goes it with you these days?

Well, I've done some checking. The website with the slanderous content is hosted (run) by a local businessman. They have forums and everything. I discovered I can sue for libel and slander, but I have no money with which to retain a lawyer. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but the big boss decided not to publish the rebuttal that my boss and I worked up, so I'm not allowed to defend myself. The whole thing really really stinks - and all because I'm trying to do my job and prevent sewage from getting into the Great Lakes!

I appreciate all the prayers and support; my church family has also really been a big help in dealing with the emotional trauma of the whole thing. Somehow I have to just keep going to work everyday and be as smooth and professional as I can and give them nothing else to latch on to and complain about - although they made up the original allegations anyways. One of the written complaints claimed I did a bunch of stuff on a certain day - when I was gone on vacation! Totally ridiculous, but the big boss doesn't like the bad PR, and rather than fight back, she'd like to show me the door.

I am looking for a new job, but Michigan isn't exactly the land of opportunity right now.

I'm playing on the church softball team, it's lots of fun with good people. But last night an arrogant loudmouth boy on the other team slammed into me at the plate. The rules are not to slide, and I wasn't blocking the plate, but he slid anyways, as hard and fast as he could, and tried to take me out. He hit me so hard on the front of my left leg he almost dislocated my knee. The front of my shin even started to bleed; it wasn't cut, just bruised so bad...it really hurt and took me a bit to stand on it again, but I wasn't about to let some snot-nosed kid knock me out of the game! So I finished the game. Today it is a goose egg with squooshiness under, quite painful and swollen, feels like the bone underneath is bruised. The worst was that the kid wasn't sorry, even when I tried to talk to him and point out it's not a professional game, it's just for fun and some of us are old enough to be his mother! He just copped an attitude. I just can't get an even shake these days!

On the upside: I get my daughter back from camp tonight, boy have I missed her! And tomorrow is Saturday, I get to stay home and do what I want!!! (Which will involve cutting the grass and doing dishes and folding laundry, but hey, I'll be home!!)

Well, time to get back to work, take care everyone!

Ruthie

Oh my Ruthie, I hope you are ok!

This is posted in a forums setting? Hmmm, may be a little harder to prove slander in that case as forums can be construed as opinion and not fact. But if you can prove that they purposely tried to slander you and they knew it wasn't true, then you do might have a case. Now as far as retaining a lawyer, thats the rub too, unless you have money, you cannot legally defend your rights!

You know, Caplta, your state is going through tough time right now with G.M. closing shop (maybe) and the auto industry is bairly there anymore because of recession and people are being let go.

My prayers are with you.

I'm finally out of school now, and finally having a summer vacation--the program I work for would have let us out for June, but the school district I work for wanted us to work those Fridays, because if there are no pupils, there is no money and the district loses money where is no pupils. So we had to make up those fridays in the month of July and we finally had our last day on yesterday (Friday). We have to comeback in September, the start of school, So I'm glad we will have a month-and-a half of rest before the children come back.

Anyways, how is everyone coping with this summer, with recession, no work and kids going crazy?....

Hi everybody.

Ruthie, is there any way that you can use legal aid to help you with a case against this person? Or a lawyer you can use pro bono?

How am I doing. Still in a lot of pain. At least I've now got an appointment with a rheumatologist on the 12th of August. I'm hoping to finally get a diagnosis for fibromyalgia and some further help with that. It'll be good going to somebody who won't think I'm nuts, and will also understand what goes on with fibromyalgia as she specialises in it.

Ruthie, praying that God will rise up and be your defender!!

Well ... despite the wonderful gift of PC ... I now have less than $40 to my name until payday ... and I know my car will use more gas than that!

Volunteered at the minor league baseball field's concession stand as a fundraiser for a chorus I used to sing with. It was physically grueling. Getting ready to take a shower and get to bed and hope I have enough gas to get to church!

OH ... asked my neighbor if I could borrow his mower if I put gas in it. He looked at me as if I had rocks in my head. OH well .. if he wants to live next door to a jungle ... phooey on him!

Thank you all A mixture of emotions is definitely correct... now that the funeral services are behind me I can "move forward"... I believe someone asked me if my grandma was a believer... she was... I said remarks at the funeral... The funeral was nice... the "family reunion" was a blessing in it... I saw family and cousins that I, unfortunately, hadn't seen in years... and I means 10's of years... so there's that. Ther service was nice but the funeral home did an absolutely horrible job... in all areas... its a very well known local (large) organization... I think they've gotten "cocky" or something... anyway... my mom and a few siblings are going to complain... words cannot describe... in all of my years of going to funerals I have never seen anything quite like this... different people (outside the family) were commenting... inside the family we were having a conniption (sp?)... I guess one plus of that was it was SOOOO not my grandmother that it kept people calm... hard to mourn someone when it seems like you're at a funeral for someone else...

In other news, I began my job today (I graduated with a MA in Clinical Psych so I'm working in that field as a therapist - different agency's give them different names but that's what I'm doing... if I had a Phd or a PsyD I'd simply be called a psychologist )... It was a long day (orientation) and I have another tomorrow and a Traning Wed. I don't report to my office until Thurs... so it kinda feels like that's when I "start"

Well... I'm heading to the gym to work out.

Ruth, good luck with the job hunt.

I'll be teaching VBS next week (or is it the week after) I can't remember

TTFN,

Shanuii, isn't amazing when you go to funerals that everyone and his brother comes out of the woodwork? Boy, you have not seen folks for years and years and years and they finally come out for the "big event"

Oh, and btw, I'm praying for you and your family--I know your grandmother was loved, but the way it was handled, I don't blame you and your family a bit.

I know about funeral homes and I can tell you stories about some who are ripoff artists-and yes there are some well-known funeral directors who are all out crooks.

Anyways, good luck in your new postion...

Shaunii, congrats on the new job! Hugs to you. We had a similar situation (bad funeral...didn't feel we were able to "really" mourn) with my step-grandmother's funeral. Only for us it was family related. But it's still so hard to get past in the middle of grief.

Ruthie, I'm so sorry to hear of all this you're going through. I hope your knee is feeling better and that you can either get a new job or somehow stand up under the pressure of the current one. Hugs and prayers to you!

Di, I'm praying your $40 is enough till payday!

Trish, hope you get some answers. I'm glad you're able to see this specialist.

Hello everyone else!

The baby's procedure went well. We were home by 10:30 that morning and it was as if nothing had happened to her. She didn't need Tylenol or anything! However, one eye is still clogged. We're so thankful her left eye is fine though! We'll continue massaging her right eye and see the doctor on the 29th. Thanks so much for your prayers!

YAY Di!! Glad it's worked out for you!

Yep...Josie's my hero. She doesn't seem to let anything get her down (for long, anyway!). I'm sure most babies are like that but she's special ('cuz she's mine ).

Another post and run -

Trishy, I like that engagement sketch!

Aussie Trish, any updates on the fibromyalgia? My last boss, the one I worked for when I first started posting here (waaaaay back in 2000) had that, and finally found a combination of meds that worked. At the time it involved 4 different drugs, as best I can remember.

Ruth, sorry to hear about the job stuff. Again. And the daughter's getting into social networking? So far Nick's allowed to do a few games on the computer, Google Earth, and maybe 1 or 2 other web sites. It helps that the computer is in the living room.

This year I actually helped teach 2 of the little classes in VBS, for the first time in about 15 years. It was Jen's class and the 4,5 year olds, and less than 10 kids in either class. All I had to do was the story page/stickers, and help my friend with Song Time each day. And then the last day I took the porcupine puppet from the opening/closing skits, and my camera, and we visited every classroom.

Monkey Update - Nick's all proud because he can tell time, and he still builds "contraptions" out of empty boxes and random stuff. He got in Big Trouble with me after day camp when he'd been telling me he was learning to swim and jump off the diving boards, etc. and it turned out he was fibbing about most of it. He's also learning that adults don't know the answers to every single question either. The deepest question was when his aunt had a miscarriage, and he asked my grandma what's the point of babies dying before they were born.

And Jen's just now learning to talk, after a year of being stubborn. We had her tested and next month we'll know if she needs any kind of speech therapy from the school. She turned 3 just before VBS, so this was her first year.

Shaunii, I was sorry to read about your grandma. But I liked the idea of wearing white at the funeral. Not sure about the practice of taking lots of family pictures, which is what the in-laws do at a funeral.

Has anyone heard from Tracy lately?

We're fixin' to leave for Wedding # 4, out of 5 this year (!) but hopefully I can check in soon.

Hi Karen! Long time no see!

No updates yet on the fibromyalgia. I don't see the rheumatologist until the 12th of August. Hopefully then she'll give me something stronger than over the counter pain meds. They're really not working.

I hope all goes well with Jenna's speech.

Hey Karen, good to see you. The monkeys are keeping you busy, eh? Glad Jen is starting to talk, it's a big milestone. I can just see how a young boy's mind would build up the swimming experience 'til he's leaping over tall buildings...good for you for keeping him in line. Sounds like VBS was fun. We're in that awkward stage where DD is too old to attend, but not able to be a helper since she can't drive yet, and they hold VBS during the day when I'm at work and can't take her.

Gayle, sorry to hear you got shook up! Hope everyone and everything is ok, and that there's no disruption to power, groceries, etc. Seems like Calif. is a scary place to live, it's either smothered by crazy liberals, burning up, or falling down! Hang in there!

Trish, have you gotten to the neurologist yet? My Aunt has been strugglign with fibromyalgia for a while now, and it's no fun. I have read where there's been good results with diet and nutrition, but she's older and not willing to make the lifestyle changes. I hope you can find a good way of coping; one thing I've heard is important is to get all of the hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup out of the diet. And that's almost impossible to do! I've been trying to do that for a while, and once you start reading labels, everything store-bought has that junk in it! What else is going on down under? You should be in the midst of winter now, right?

Tammy how's that precious little baby? What did the doc say on the follow up visit? Hope all is well.

How are you doing, Di? Did you find a way to get your grass mowed?

Hey Mike, isn't it time for a new avatar? At least for a clean shirt?

Life here has had it's ups and downs. My leg is still giving me Much Trouble, and the longer it does, the madder I get at the kid who hit me. Kneeling for communion is nearly impossible; walking for very long makes it feel like the bone will snap. While it might be wise to see a doc, I don't have a family doc, and just don't have the energy to go looking for one.

Last week someone broke into my storage building and took my generator/welder and cutting torch. The cops aren't doing anything; my brother and I have actually been out interviewing neighbors, checking the salvage yards, and the places where they refill the tanks for the cutting torch. I feel violated, scared, angry, and so very upset....it may have even happened while DD was home alone. I hardly know what to do anymore. And of course, there's dealing with the insurance company.....

My job - well, my job. There's been more nasty stuff written about me on the internet. I try not to let it bother me; anyone with any sense could see that the author is a failed businessman with a drinking habit; but the office has done nothing to defend me, allowing this group to spew their drunken accusations unchecked. I need to get a lawyer, but of course that costs money. The only good thing is I'm taking some time off; for this entire week I get to stay home and ignore the office. Bliss!

I'm using some of my time off to dust off my resume and go networking...not much to hope for, but I have to try. I'm to the point of looking at all the 'work from home' ads on the internet. I know they're scams, but I keep looking.

Saturday my brothers came over and helped me start building a patio behind my house. I'm so excited! I've wanted this patio for 12 years. The yard on the north side of my house has always been uneven and difficult to mow, and I always have to move my yard chairs and grill. With the patio I can set up my swing, my grill, and picnic table, and never have to move any of it. It will take a long time finish, as it's quite large and I'm doing it with 'found' materials, old bricks, stones, and salvaged wood, but that's ok, it's started and that was the hard part. We got all of the framework done, and the stoop for the back door re-built, and several feet of bricks laid. I have to do some re-wiring to move the power line for the dog kennel, and then I need lots more sand and bricks, but I'm so happy to have it started.

So that's the update from mid-michigan land. Hope you are all well and doing fine!

Ruth

Hi everybody.

(((((((((((((((((((((RUTHIE))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I'm sorry things are still so tough for you. Scary stuff, being broken into. I hope that you can find a good family doctor soon who can help you with your knee. No fun being in pain. It sounds like a good idea that you're looking for a new job too. Hopefully somewhere that would be willing to stand up for you, unlike where you currently work. In any case, I hope this week off will give you a much needed break from there. I'm glad you're finally getting started on the patio you've been wanting for so long.

I see the rheumatologist next Tuesday. Not long to go now. YAY! In the meantime, I'm trying to get to the gym as much as I can to strengthen my muscles.

Yep, we're in our winter. Overnight temperatures are in the low to mid 30s. Not as cold as you get, but cold enough. It really takes a toll on my body.

A few years ago, I went on a real scarf making thing. I've got bags and bags of yarn still left over. I talked to one of the school chaplains from church and asked her if she knew of any kids who could use a scarf. I figure instead of leaving the yarn there unused, I'd knit it up and give them to the school chaplains at church, (there are 3), and they can give them away. I won't be able to get it all knitted up before the end of our winter, as there's so much to knit up, but I told her I'd stockpile the rest for next year. It's going a lot slower than I'd like as I'm having trouble with motivation, and also, my hands have been so painful and swollen. I'll just do it as I can. I've got some scarves to go down to the church already, but there's a lot more to be knitted up. It'll keep me out of mischief for a while.

Ruthie, I am so sorry about the theft! I do hope they cover it with insurance and replace the stolen items with brand new ones!

Ah, a stay-cation ... I have one of those coming up later ths month, coudn't come at a better time, even if it is one vacation day and 3 comp days ... and I get to work on the 5th day ... so a five day week!

Got a snarky email from my boss about my productivity being down ... of course it was! I was practically off or editing the entire first week of July, then I was on vacation .... then I had a special project to design and write for ... and meanwhile, I've had a page to put together. I am the ONLY reporter responsible for designing and writing for a page weekly ... most of the stuff I write for that page doesn't even have a byline but is more work than a story ...

Oh ... and I got a mower for $20 on Craig's List. I was a mowin' fool last week ... and it has worked well. Of course, blew off all my bills this month for silly things like gas and food ...
