I'm coming into this thread way late, but I have read most of the entries. I like most of the discussion and

appreciate that clear thinking has prevailed. techne your curiosity has fueled a good thread. When I have

more time, I hope to make some substantive comments. Thanks. Rich

I think all us right brained artistic types have moved on. I wouldn't mind seeing this thread come back to life.

I think all us right brained artistic types have moved on.

ideally, i think that artists should be "whole-brained" -- i'm not a fan of the [modern] image/ stereotype of the artist as "touchy-feely". in a nutshell, being both involves:
~ left-brain: logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective, looks at parts
~ right-brain: random, intuitive, holistic, synthesizing, subjective, looks at wholes

while contemporary education tends to favour left-brain approaches, there are changes happening (DBAE, Gardner's learning modalities). however, if we were to look at most artists prior to the modern period (c. 1850) i think that our label for artists would be quite different. in fact, i would argue that we would label their approaches and processes as left-brain rather than right-brain.

but maybe that's just me...

I am not sure if I am left or right brained... I tend to see things that others notice yet I like to keep my ducks in a row...
I have also been told, "you are surprisingly conservative for an artist or actor".

fyi -- the latest CIVA SEEN publication is all about the vocation (or calling) of the artist.

look for it here under publications (it may take a few days for it to show up as it was just mailed to members last week).
