Well, I'm guessing that he could at least run, given he's a keep-fit fanatic...

I'm not sure Red Ken could do a lot of good in Washington...

As for Boris... he'd give it a go, I'm sure!

Obama would probably run the other way....yelling "I'll go for some change......."

lol

I am sure Red Ken would fit in in Washington...........

As for this man Boris....he'd be a welcome visitor in ANY city.....

he's what the Jews call a Mensch (a real person).

You do sort of... Spooks is on BBC3 first on a Friday, then repeated today (and again at 00.15 tonight on BBC3). I missed it last Friday, but I was so tired, I'm not suprised...

Saw... and yes, oh my...

For those the other side of the duckpond... 'Spooks' is a tv drama which was renamed 'MI5' in the US. Not sure about Canada, I think they kept it as 'Spooks'.

Why did they rename it for American audiences?

I think it was the Americans who renamed it... because they can't leave the names of anything alone...

not quite.

the term spooks here refers to our CIA operatives...just as it refers over there to your MI5 operatives...so...unless you want people thinking that those people are funny speaking americans.....

It is no different than an FBI show here in the states being called "the Firm" and then being changed to The FBI in Britain....but then....we don't have a show on the FBI over here......lol....

Actually, the CIA do play a role in our programme as well. It's about your spooks as well as ours.

I wouldn't know....it is a cable tv show (one you have to pay extra for)...and we don't pay for the premium channels.

I was under the understanding that it was mostly about MI5 though, from what I have read, and that is why they renamed it....so as to give proper credit to the proper agency.

Personally...I really don't care. I have actually known spooks from the CIA.....and I don't think I'd really want to know too much (even if made up) about their past exploits...and then again.......

It's changed a lot over the years. Nowdays there are more organised displays than there used to be when I was a kid (due to the danger aspect!). I tend to avoid them as they're pretty noisy, crowded and expensive ~ and I can see a lot of one of the displays from my bedroom windows! I'd say they were popular and generally a lot of fun.

Apparently there's somewhere that considered burning an effigy of Nick Griffin, but decided he's take offence so went for Katie Price instead and are hoping she sees the humour in it!

Is Munchie troubled by them at all?

I have no idea about that... I do feel NG would have been a better option though!

Not normally. She normally sleeps through them but she's been jumping around a bit today so I don't know if she's figured out that she's supposed to freak out or just being scatty, which is normal for her every now and again.

My bunnies don't like them at all - every time one goes off, we hear a few "thumps" of their feet. Thankfully there aren't too many tonight so far - I expect there'll be heaps tomorrow and Saturday though.

Are your bunnies outside? Do you bring them in? I wouldn't let Munchie out over the next few days if she ever went outside.

They're in hutches in a shed, so not just outside. We don't really have the space to bring them all in the house! They come in to "visit", but one at a time, and often sit with us to watch TV but it would be too much all at once. I closed the shed door, so that will have insulated them a bit against the bangs.

Btw, did you see this on the BBC News Website?

"Baldrick"

For some reason I was thinking you had two bunnies. How many do you have?

well....I have decided to bid you all adieu in this thread. My time is pretty crunched right now, and I have to pick and choose some threads to give up.

Since this thread is not so much about talking about differences/questions that Brits have for non-brits or vice versa anymore, and more about Brits discussing what they've watched on tv lately, etc....not really a place for those of us who aren't Brits or who don't spend a lot of time watching the telly.

I'd tell you all to have a nice day and enjoy yourselves, but don't wish to contaminate anyone with any more things American than they have already been contaminated.

Thank you for for the fun!

Of course it is - it just goes in waves. It's been like that throughout its 200+ pages.

It's a vastly inferior Australian form of Marmite (which is the original yeast spread). The Australian government had to bribe people with vouchers to buy vegimite.

OK. I was thinking that it was some sort of vegetarian Marmite. Brits have done some strange things with the language.

Marmite is vegetarian.

My husband is Australian and he says that vegemite is best but I have tasted it and I hate it, so I buy marnite. Cant beat marmite. Its very British.
