Good job Melissa! I got on the elliptical last night at my community center's fitness room. I did 20 minutes but I am really sorry I pushed that today. My legs are NOT HAPPY with me. The funny thing is, I climb our stairs at least 10 times a day so you would think an elliptical would be no problem. Oh well, I'll do a little more treadmill next time and work my way up.

Yay, Melissa! You're doing great! I started a new weight loss program tonight. We meet once a week for 6 weeks, then another 6 weeks for maintenance. Last week, we did a detox... lots of fresh vegetables & fruits, and some lean meats/protein. This week, we get to double our protein, continue lots of fresh fruits & veggies, and add some low-glycemic index foods, such as beans and nuts. And we increase our exercise. This past week, I lost around 5 lbs, so I'm down to 150 (I think 170 was my high... I remember weighing myself and being so disgusted I tried not to remember it)

What wonderful poster friends! I have been very mindful what I have consumed the last two days! I must say that I have not had two tablespoons of ice cream,in fact, I have had no ice cream! I feel great! I for the last three days I have been raking and bagging leaves! I stopped counting the leaf-filled bags when I got to # 30! I have learned a lot from all of you posters! Thanks for sharing!! It is so true God will help us with all of our temptations to be strong with His help! God is my (your) helper! PTL!!

Tomorrow is weigh in day. No matter what the scale shows, it's isn't necessarily the true story. It's true that I ate a lot of sugary foods this week. I also did a lot of exercise, mowing leaves, using an elliptical, etc. TOM is also planning to make an appearance. It's not the numbers on the scale that matter. What matters is how our clothes are fitting, how much energy we have and how good we feel health wise. Most importantly, what matters is what God says about us. Despite the fact that clothing manufacturers of plus size clothes think that "larger" people deserve ugly clothes doesn't mean that we are ugly, because we're not. We are beautiful, both inside and out, because Jesus lives in us through the Holy Spirit. That's something to rejoice in today, no matter what the scale says. Have a blessed weekend!

I am so happy to hear those great attitudes! It is a wonderful way to start the day. This morning, the family is heading out to this amazing Victorian park to play. After naps, we are all going swimming. It will be my sons first time! It is exciting. I was sitting here and thinking which is always a dangerous activity. I have researched and studied nutrition, exercise, health, and wellnes for years and years. Often I forget that others have not and so may not get where I am coming from. I thought I would recommend a site to you. It is the Best Life site. Okay, I know it came through Oprah but it is a method of changing your lifestyle not just lose those pounds fast. It is a slow and thoughtful approach that will teach your serving size, nutrition, healthy choices, exercise, and maybe help you get to why you are having food issues. There is a free portion that I found helpful. There is also a pay portion, I think it is an average of $3 a month but I could be wrong. Anyway, you could see if you like. He also has a book out. I don't know if it is against tos to post the site so if you just google "Best Life", it is the first one. Education is so important in anything we choose to undertake. Taking control of your health and fitness is not different. I hope it helps.

Thanks Melissa and Karen for what you have posted today. The Lord has been dealing with me concerning my self-control. I have a problem with not only when this deals with food, but with other aspects in my Christian walk. I need to control my tongue and let my feelings get hurt, back talk and sins like this that are not pleasing to the Lord. Yes, we are made in the image of God and He loves us, cares for us and He has paid the ultimate price so we can spend an awesome eternity with Him! Praise His Name! I need to spend more time with Him so I will be more like Him. This is a cool bunch of posters!! Thanks!

Well, I'm wrapping up day 2 of this program and I've survived so far. It takes a lot of effort to make myself cook for every meal. But I did take a break tonight and not cook or dirty any dishes... just had a banana and a little hummus. Honestly, I've been more full on this program than with any others. The foods are all fresh and prepared at home... delicious. But the dishes!!! I wish I had a dishwasher. quote:

I agree... it's not the numbers on the scale. What we are doing is making our bodies healthier. We might be able to come off of medications, avoid illnesses and diseases, and generally improve our bodies from the inside out. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit... it's up to us to do Temple Maintenance. quote:
I don't know if it is against tos to post the site so if you just google "Best Life", it is the first one. It's perfectly fine to share resources (as long as you're not advertising). Would love if you could post the website... I haven't had the chance to look it up. quote:

I'm glad to see you're spending more time with him and listening... probably the key to successful weight loss!

When I fist started out-getting to 30 minutes on that thing took me a while. I discovered a little trick....try going forwards 5 minutes, and then backwards 5 minutes. This also has the added benefit of mixing up the resistance and giving both the quads and hamstrings a workout.

It is so great to get on here and hear how wonderful everyone is doing. Like in everything, baby steps forward are still steps forward! Jenn, it is not unusual to be a bit sore after starting to work out again. Not pain but a little sore. Surprisingly, the best thing to do is a light workout. It will get your muscles warm and looser again. If I have a big 5-6 mile run, then the next day I will run a light 2 mile because otherwise the day following that, I would not be able to walk. Here is the Best Life link http://www.thebestlife.com/index.php?aid=9e3eda2dd59ed99e7554965999&gclid=CJ6K48Sn_J0CFRPyDAodNDMXqQ There is a book with it but the site has some good articles, tips, etc. Keep up the good work and have a great day.

Today is one of those days that is challenging to lose weight. My 6 month old was teething so I think I got a little over 4 hours of patched together sleep. That will make eating healthy hard. I probably won't go to the gym because it would be dangerous to work out so tired. God will give me the strength to do all things. It will be a quiet, cuddle day and I will eat good healthy food and just take care of my body my resting. I hope everyone makes the choice to be good to themselves today.

Whenever Aaron is teething and in obvious pain and upset, I want to go retrieve his pediatrician who told me that the only thing that comes along with teething. . . is teeth.

Dh and I started Atkins yesterday and I have just found a yummy snack. Roasted red pepper humus with celery. Please not dissing the Atkins as I read all the "helpful hints" before.

I like Atkins, Deb. My dad and I both feel fabulous when eating that way ;) So, I am down about 3 more lbs, but I'm pregnant so it's sort of "mixed" news. Not real concerned, I've been eating normally(+300 extra calories) and exercising so I know the baby is getting what he/she needs. The biggest challenge has been eating enough good cabrs to keep my stomach from being upset but not so much that I get moody.

I had so much energy during that time and should have continued. I'm the type of person that needs to rid certain things out of my diet as it's just not good for me. We're both very overweight and need to get the weight off.

The maintanence portion of Atkins is an excellent way to eat in general. We eat much like that but we do eat more whole grains. In general I try to keep the refined sugars and flours out of our diet for the most part. I think Atkins got a bad rap because it was the eat as much bacon and cheese as you want diet. That really isn't the case at all.

When I was suffering with Bipolar disorder and was having no luck keeping my mood swings under control with meds, I would follow the Atkins diet. Within 3 days, my moods would level out enough that I could think straight. When I was "between" phases, which was rare because I was a rapid cycler with mixed phases, I could live almost symptom-free by following the diet. Problem was, being Bipolar, I was no good at sticking with meds, much less a diet LOL! I have been seriously considering returning to the Atkins way of eating, as I am having some issues with moods thanks to my new BC pill. Nothing serious, but enough that it reminds me of old times, and that is something I'd rather not ever be reminded of. I joined the fitness center, and guess what? Hubby joined with me YAY!!! I went the first night by myself, and then he went with me the second time - we are both sore today, it's been way too long lol! The cool thing is, the place doesn't get that many people and at the time we go, there's NO ONE there! It's like having a gym in your house that someone else pays for and cleans up . We were supposed to go tonight, but hubby scored free tickets (Suite tickets no less ) for tonights Carolina Hurricanes hockey game from his boss. I love hockey way more than working out, so we're going LOL!!! Of course, hubby just reminded me that it is about a mile walk from the car to the arena, so we will definitely get some walking in tonight. We don't buy junk while we are there because we are too stingy with our money, so I think all in all it will be an awesome "date night"! Back to the workout room tomorrow night, though. I like the soreness from the elliptical (I know, I'm weird) so I'm going to get back on it tomorrow.

Jenn, that is incredible about the fitness center. I am so proud of you! Of course, you have to go to the game. Suite tickets? No choice. I worked out with my husband today. I love that. He is 6'2 and I am 5'3, running on the dreadmill is the only way we can run together.

We rode the recumbent bikes together and I got on the elliptical while he rode the bike. It was great to work out together, though. When you are working out, you bond in a whole new way LOL!

How is everyone doing? I am doing well. I just broke the time I wanted to for 3 miles and I am continuing to eat well. I will probably get on the scale soon for an update. I am been doing more yoga and my flexibilty is greatly increased. My 38th bday will be here soon and I feel better than I have in decades. Bring on 40! It is going to be a great decade.
