We're going to be TTC starting in April. I need to wait two months in order to qualify for FMLA and Maternity leave. I'll be pushing it as it is, and if we have a premie I'll be out of luck. I've starting charting this cycle and using OPK's so I understand what's going on with my body.

Also, I'm going to use Dr. Shettle's method for TTC a boy, so I need to understand exactly when I ovulate. So far, it's not super obvious. I NEVER get EWCM and I also work night shift and have a very erratic sleep schedule. I got a positive OPK yesterday morning. I had been taking them twice a day. According to Dr. Shettles, if the OPK is the only thing you have to go on, taking them twice a day and timing BD for 24 hours after your positive test is the best plan for catching the egg at the right time. :) But CM and temps can give you more accurate information.

This might be major TMI but I've been trying to "listen" to my body extra carefully the last couple of days to understand how it is when I ovulate. I've noticed what feels like shooting pains through my vagina. I've also had gas/mild diarrhea and a funny tummy. I'm not really sure if I've experienced the same things in previous months and I'm just noticing them now because I'm paying attention or if they're unrelated to my ovulating.

Anyway, prayers and best wishes for everyone!

temperatures fluctuate regularly. It's normal. It's not just a one day temp that really really means anything, it's the overall picture in the end.

I believe medically speaking anything from 96 to 99 (give or take) is considered "normal". Usually I'm pretty warm-blooded, though.

Well, I felt the middle of the month twinges yesterday. That seems kind of late to me, but I guess we'll see what happens. I'm finally getting over my sickness and have a few more days of my antibiotic.

My temps before I was diagnosed with PCOS were always below 96.9. After I was diagnosed and started my Metformin my temps went up to normal levels.

Is a low body temperature associated with PCOS?!?! I haven't been monitoring my BBT, but this might be reason enough for me to begin (and I keep saying that...I know).

Tonight I'm feeling pretty crampy which I'd almost guarantee means we are entirely out for this month

Keep the faith. I called hubby to bring me a tampon the day before I got my positive test. I was 100% SURE I was out. I even cried over it.

Do you have any other symptoms that might signify PCOS?

I had very low temps when I was annovulatory. I would say that low temps are indicative of annovulatory cycles, not necessarily PCOS. I never tested positive for PCOS, although they did test me. I have had normal cycles since.

I had low temps during the 1st half of my cycle (as low as 96.7), but always ovulated like clockwork and do not have PCOS. So, I guess it can just be how your body works.

Thanks, Erin. It's just hard when everything seems contrary to conception. I was sick and we didn't really BD that much...so we'll see.

As far as PCOS, I am overweight (I know that is one "symptom"). From the reading I have done, I understand that a woman with PCOS can have skin of a different texture and color in certain areas of the body. This is another symptom that I have. I'm trying to remember what the rest were, but I do recollect that it was something I should talk to my doctor about (from this quiz I took when I was researching).

I have to go to the regular doctor a week from today and I will probably talk to him then about some of the things (of course part of it depends on whether AF has shown up by then or not).

I have low temps, but no idea if I am ovulating or PCOS. I am not worried about it.

I have been thinking about this for a while and I guess I will go ahead and ask.

I have been reading this thread and the struggling to conceive thread and praying lots, Sometimes when someone posts when they are especially upset or hurting lots of people post with (()) hugs and little notes of encouragement.

What I'm wondering is if that is encouraging to you, I have wanted to post hugs like that and prayers but I am worried that because I'm not especially close to any one here it wouldn't be appreciated. I guess I think that because I don't know exactly what you are going through I should just stay out but at the same time I want to say I'm praying and hope that that is encouraging...

So I guess my question is do you like it when lots of people post hugs and support, or would you prefer that we just pray and not say anything?

If your average temperature over three days is less than 97.8*F, then you may have hypothyroidism and it's worth being tested (and asking for your precise results, not just accepting a diagnosis of "within the normal range").

manda... this is not your temperature that you take when you are up and doing stuff.. this is your basal body temp., and it is taken when you are still in bed, before walking around or even getting up.
97.8* is pretty high for that.

My temp is well below that level during the morning temps, but well above that during the day when I am up and doing stuff. My "average" temp for basal purposes is between probably 96.8 and 97.2 or so. I've had my thyroid tested, and all my other stuff tested, and it all comes back "within normal range" so I don't think it's of concern. =)

pumpkin,

I *am* talking about your basal body temperature.

From HERE (and other sites):

quote:

THE BODY TEMPERATURE TEST
There is one simple thing almost anyone can do at home to uncover an underactive thyroid:
Take your own temperature.
The "basal body temperature" test was developed by Broda O. Barnes, M.D.,
Because thyroid hormone is so vital to cellular metabolism, reduced thyroid function often manifests as a drop in body temperature to below the normal level of 98.6*F. Barnes recommended the following procedure:
Immediately upon awakening, and with as little movement as possible, place the thermometer under the tongue or in the rectum.
Leave it there for 10 minutes.
Record the readings on three consecutive days
If the average temperature over the three days is less than 97.8*F, then, according to Barnes, you may have hypothyroidism. Even if you have had a blood test and were told your did not have a low thyroid reading, you might go back and look at the test results again. You may find that your blood levels of thyroid hormones are actually low normal. Many people who are within the so-called "normal" range but below the midpoint could benefit enormously from thyroid supplementation.

pumpkin, what they call the "normal range" is a source of great controversy amongst many people, including doctors. You see what no-one knows is what is normal for you, and it varies from person to person. That's why symptoms and how the person is feeling need to be taken into account as well. And different doctors work with different "normal ranges" (usually either 0.3-3.0 or 0.5-5.0 for TSH, for example, but even people with a TSH of 2.0 can be symptomatic).

So, I would advise anyone who has been told they are within the normal range to ask for their precise figures and check with other sources to see just how "normal" they are.

Chelsea...for me this is personally fine. (I know some will feel differently). However, we are all Christians here and that makes us sisters. Hugs, prayers, and encouragement from family members are always appreciated and welcomed.

manda, I'm sorry if you took what I said as condescending or something. I have never heard of the research that you listed, and it still seems really high considering all the charts that I've viewed.(and I've looked through many chart galleries as well as at my own charts, and those of friends) Although I'm no expert.

I did get specific test numbers, and my numbers were *firmly* in the middle of what they considered a normal range at the time... although I don't recall them at the moment.

It is interesting, but I'm not sure that it means much if your temps. are a little low.. that could also be normal for some people.

Thank you for responding Megan

I have often wondered how posts from non TTCers are taken, but I feel the same way about being sisters in Christ and since my best friend has been TTC for several years now it is an issue very close to my heart.

God bless!

Chelsea, there is nothing wrong in posting hugs and "I'm praying for you" if you so desire. (sorry I didn't respond earlier)

I find that it helps to see those words on the page... it's a help because you know that someone somewhere is praying, and wants to do whatever they can to help in your situation. (not just TTC, but in whatever area of your life)

So, in short, yes I appreciate them. =)
