ORIGINAL: furrypurrykitty I don't know what album it's from, or if it was even on an album, but listen to Steve Taylor's version of "Winter Wonderland" sometime if you ever get the chance. It's a hoot - makes me laugh just thinking about it. Good call on that one. I try to play it at least once during the holiday season. It was originally on an album (CD) titled "Christmas", which featured a bunch of Sparrow artists doing Christmas songs - a few originals, but mostly standards. Steve took the cake though with his marachi treatment of "Wonderland". I listed it as one of my favorite Christmas songs on the thread which covered that topic. What a hoot.

If you get a chance, check out the interviews on the farewell concert DVD Petra released a couple years ago. You can feel the tension in the air . . . Yeah, something didn't seem quite right about all that, and John Schlitt had said some time back he had no interest in sharing the stage with Greg....go figure.....

Well, I am just talking about which music I prefer, not which lead singer I would rather hang out with. But it is nice when off-stage personas match the on-stage personas. (unless of course the on-stage persona is so bad that you hope the person is not really like that in "real life"!)

My best friend's older brother was a promoter back then and I tagged along to a concert-- didn't really know who they were at the time, but I remember them being great. That's how I was introduced to Daniel Amos, too. I had my concert t-shirt forEVER-- it's probably still packed away with the rest of my teen-age treasures. Be sure to give us a heads-up if you ever put those Ts up for bid on e-Bay. If I find them in my parent's garage, I'll let you know... I saved just about everything back then. I didn't know then that stuff accumulates and multiplies in the dark!!!

ORIGINAL: PolarBear *Nothing* beats Petra's late-80s stuff. I just bought Back to the Street, This Means War, and On Fire on CD (previously I only had them on tape). I sure wish our younger generation of listeners would be exposed to these albums. The solid Christian lyrics and great rock just don't have any equal in modern music! Yes, those were good albums for the most part. I equally liked the earlier "pop" Greg X. Voltz" era too though. Also, I remember the "Living Waters" program as well!

I like music with more keyboards, and it seems like the later towards the 1990s, there was maybe more emphasis on guitars than keyboards. I think that is why I don't really like a lot of music from the 1990s in general. I like techno-pop type stuff.

You may want to check out the first few albums by Mad At The World from the late 80s or early 90s. They did a euro-techno-dance type thing, the first Christian band I remember going down that road. On into the 90s, they became more guitar based, but the first few albums were very beat conscious. You might also enjoy Code of Ethics and Echoing Green.

literally grew up with David & The Giants. also loved to hear Kellye Huff (((his daughter)) sing. 2cd Chapter Of Acts, Al Denson, DeGarmo & Key, Petra, old Newsboys, Wayne Watson, old Michael W. Smith, Carman (((name is his song)), Twila Paris, Whitecross, Sacred Warrior, WhiteHeart, Disciple, Rich Mullins, and so many others. wow, when CCM actually had meaning. ok yeah gonna make a few mad, but Disciple is about the only band I like that has the screaming type vocals and they were heavily melodic.

I wish that I could find a decent price for an out of print copy of David and the Giants self titled album (or cassette) that was on CBS's Priority label.

Now that would be nice! I am not looking to spend a lot of money, but something reasonable would be nice.

I listened primarily to Petra, White Heart and Allies until the early 90s. At that time I discovered a compilation that changed my music listening forever: Brow Beat. Every artist I thought was cooler than the last...Poor Old Lu, The Choir, Mike Knott, Dig Hay Zoose, Terry Taylor, Lost Dogs, Mortal, LSU, Adam Again...well except for The Throes. Never really got in to them. But all the others remain favorites of mine to this day. Shortly after discovering and devouring music by all these guys I happened upon Wish For Eden's "Pet The Fish" which introduced me to Tooth & Nail Records and it was over...I was hooked. I eventually went back and listened to a bunch of the 80s bands like Daniel Band, David and the Giants, Altar Boys, Sacred Faith, Crumbacher, Idle Cure, etc. and have become a huge fan of them as well.

Adam Again Homeboys remains one of my favorite albums . . . ever. A close second would be The Choir's Circle Slide.

Brow Beat is an excellent album - you can't go wrong with any of the artists on that one. Seems like there was a second CD that came out a little later with most of the same folks on it. Can't remember what it was called right now.

Well I have anywhere from 300-500 CDs, mostly 80s and 90s, and some compilations. Mostly just Pop/Rock (Amy Grant, Maggie B, Crystal Lewis & such) I got Lead Me On on CD for $1 at Half Price Books...Honestly, I was floored. I looked for it earnestly for A LONG TIME because that's a great album full of pondering points on spiritual awakening. I'm listening to it right now as I type. Simply amazing.

Lead Me On That album was a real turning point for Amy, I believe. The songs were "darker" than her earlier efforts and definitely showed her maturity. I remember jamming to that album quite a bit.
