Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, the Mr. Magoo of American politics, stumbled onto the otetruth last week. He discovered the law of supply and demand. "We want to put [more oil] on the market to increase supply and lower prices," Reid said. "With oil and gas prices continuing to break record highs every day, much more needs to be done."
Indeed it does. But Reid won't allow it. His understanding of economics only extends to matters in which he might embarrass President Bush. The oil he wants on the market is the oil the administration is buying for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), now nearly full. Reid got his way. The administration now plans to stop oil shipments to the SPR next month.
Beyond that, Reid and his party are committed to suppressing increased oil production in this country, as they wait for that magical day when fossil fuels are no longer needed to supply the nation's energy needs.

Presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama is furious - or feigning fury - with the truth again. This time it is over a statement made by President George W. Bush. The statement made by the president to Israel’s parliament last week included chastising those who continue to call for some types of appeasement to the world’s enemies and included the warning: “As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is - the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.”
Until the leftist Democrats again attempt a major rewrite of history, the documented facts are that current Democrat leaders, including but not limited to former US President Jimmy Carter, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Barack Hussein  Obama, have each advocated sitting down to talk with our enemies - or have already done it themselves. Obama is angry that President Bush is again telling the truth - and it seems to implicate him.
Recently the arguably worst-US-president-in-history and noted anti-Semite Carter sat down “to talk” with the exiled leader of terrorist Hamas - which has vowed to destroy Israel and now publicly supports Barack Obama for POTUS - and Nancy Pelosi sat down to talk with Syria’s terrorist leader Bashar al-Assad. Both of these Democrat “leaders” were operating in a rogue manner outside of US policy towards terrorist and terrorist-sponsoring states. Obama has now joined them with his ‘If I’m elected President of the United States I’ll sit down - with NO preconditions - for a talk with the President of Iran’. And even though Obama’s statements have been widely reported and are contained in videos, he has apparently decided that he wants the American people to believe him and not their lyin’ eyes and ears. The mainstream press agrees and is tirelessly working to protect their Candidate Obama. So much for the truth.

Officials asked for the horns of cars, trains and ships and air raid sirens to sound as people fell silent at 2:28 p.m. - exactly one week after the quake splintered thousands of buildings and killed an estimated 50,000 people. Chinese news portal sina.com said the government had ordered all visitors to online entertainment and game pages to be redirected to Web sites dedicated to commemorating earthquake victims.
The Olympic torch relay - a potent symbol of national pride in the countdown to August's much anticipated Beijing games - was also suspended during the mourning period.

JERUSALEM – In terming the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a "constant sore" last week, did Sen. Barack Obama borrow the phraseology of a pro-Palestinian activist and harsh critic of Israel who has been described as a friend of the senator?
Columbia University Professor Rashid Khalidi also previously held a fundraiser for Obama. He has made repeated statements supportive of Palestinian terror.
In a much-quoted interview with the Atlantic, Obama was asked last week whether he thinks Israel is a "drag on America's reputation oversees."

The court, in a 7-2 decision, brushed aside concerns that the law could apply to mainstream movies that depict adolescent sex, classic literature or innocent e-mails that describe pictures of grandchildren.
The ruling upheld part of a 2003 law that also prohibits possession of child porn. It replaced an earlier law against child pornography that the court struck down as unconstitutional.

Pro-family activist Diane Gramley says homosexual activists in her state of Pennsylvania will use the recent decision by California's Supreme Court, which overturned a ban on same-sex nuptials, to keep a proposed marriage protection amendment from ever seeing the light of day.
Currently SB 1250, the marriage protection amendment, is languishing in a Pennsylvania Senate committee. Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, says the situation in her state is similar to the one in California, where last week the Supreme Court decision was announced.
According to Gramley, jurists and legislators in both states are bowing to pressure from homosexual activists, which she notes make up only about 2.9 percent of the population. Gramley says homosexual activists are also taking part in a campaign of misinformation regarding the issue.

It appears the New York Post's assessment that MSNBC's Keith Olbermann is on the verge of another professional meltdown was quite prescient.
On Monday's "Countdown," answering to criticism that his Special Comment last Wednesday about President Bush's "panoramic and murderous deceit" was so over the top that he should be suspended, Olbermann had the unmitigated audacity to claim those offended were showing "their instinctive hatred for, and contempt for" America's troops.

Stanley Kurtz, a National Review Online contributor, concluded after reviewing two years of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Trumpet Magazine that the Trinity United Church of Christ pastor practices a black liberation theology brand of Christianity that "sees his own form of Christianity as profoundly different from Christianity as typically practiced by most American whites and blacks."

The Third Court of Appeals in Austin said the state failed to show the youngsters were in any immediate danger, the only grounds in Texas law for taking children from their parents without court action.
It was not clear when the children — now scattered in foster homes across the state — might be returned to their parents. The ruling gave a lower-court judge 10 days to release the youngsters from custody, but the state could appeal to the Texas Supreme Court and block that.

Oil first rose to a new record high of $135.09 a barrel after a report that the International Energy Agency plans to downgrade its estimate of global supplies. But the price fell back $2.36 to close at $130.81, as traders took profit from a four-session winning streak. See Futures Movers.

It's a happy Memorial Day from the Associated Press as they inform that nation that a few Marines involved themselves in a "shooting spree" in Afghanistan. Yes, the AP makes it seem as if our Marines began "firing indiscriminately at vehicles and civilians" during a March 4th altercation near Nangarhar province. But, a closer read finds a far murkier story and one that seems to say that our Marines didn't go wild but that they thought they were under attack. Whether the Marines were right or wrong about being attacked is the real question at the end of the day. But whatever the case, right at the outset the AP presented the incident as if the Marines were in the wrong.
Even the headline casts the Marines actions in the negative: "Afghans appalled Marines not charged in killings." No benefit of the doubt there. In fact, the whole first half of the story explores the charges against the Marines before a single word in their defense appears.

The fix-the-military argument was recently made at greater length by the New York Times. On May 18, the paper's editorialists noted that the efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken a serious toll on the Army and Marine Corps, wearing down not only people but equipment "at an unprecedented rate." Well, the loss rates would not have been surprising to the defenders of Bastogne, the armies at Antietam, or the servicemen and women in any other major war, but it is true that US land forces have been asked to do too much with too little for too long.
