Did anyone else notice how Mary Ellen's son John Curtis got renamed Clay?

I wondered if John Curtis maybe just wasn't in that picture and if she had another one. I've lost track.

I love the Waltons. I would love to find a man as passionate as John Boy. I was looking at the picture from 1982, why is there no Olivia?

I'm fairly new to the show, Mom tivo's it. I guess I need to netflix the seasons so I can watch them.

Olivia had contracted (I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong) tuberculosis and went to a sanitorium. Close enough for John to visit quite frequently, but gone from the show.

Later, I believe, she was moved to another sanitorium in Arizona.

Yes. Liv got TB and I only remember her being moved to Arizona for a while.

Re: Mary Ellen's son - I noticed this when watching A Walton's Thanksgiving or whatever it was, set in the 1950's...no mention at all was made of John Curtis, but there was "Clay."

John Curtis certainly couldn't have been grown up, and Clay appeared to be the right age for John Curtis.

In the book The Homecoming, John and John Boy were CLay and Clay-boy which I always thought was stupid. Clay Boy just sounds dumb (which is probably what it was changed to John Boy which sounds only slighly silly and more endearing...LOL)

My mother was raised during the depression and her brother, the only boy in the family, was called merely "The Boy" but the entire family - even when he was in his 50's all the sisters still called him "The Boy." LOL

I'm not even clear on those, Terri. I know there were several, after the series ended. I saw many of them, but I'd love to get them on DVD, but I can't find them, nor can I find anyplace where they're comprehensively listed.

And as far as I can figure, only Seasons 1 through 7 have been released so far. Waiting for Season 8. I think they made 9.

Am I right about those numbers, MindySue? You seem to be the expert!

I netflixed 1-9. It says I have to wait on 8 and 9 though. Even Season 1 is a on a waiting list.

The movies were "reunion" movies - I honestly don't remember when the last one was on. If you go to http://www.the-waltons.com (I think that's the official site) you might find out more info.

Thanks, MindySue!

BTW, I found this on the FAQ page of that site, which I thought y'all might find interesting:

Q. What happened to Mary Ellen's son, John Curtis, and Ben's children?

A. The writers simply chose not to mention John Curtis. In one special it was mentioned that Virginia, Ben and Cindy's daughter, had died but no explanation has been given for their other missing child, Charles Benjamin.

I put the Waltons on my netflix list. It should start coming next week!

Hallmark makes me angry in the fact that they don't show them in order. It confuses me, especially since I haven't seen them all before.

I know what you mean, Terri. I loved watching the DVDs, and putting the events together, when what happened, stuff like that. Have fun!

"The Waltons" was great TV, we'll never see another family show like it again, sad.

Patricia Neal later starred as Olivia Walton in the television movie The Homecoming: A Christmas Story (1971), which was the pilot episode for The Waltons. Although she won a Golden Globe for her performance, she was not invited to reprise the role in the television series; the part went to Michael Learned.
(Got this from Wikipedia.)

Does anyone remember this movie? The mother (played by Patricia Neal) wasn't very nice and she seemed to push a lot of her responsiblities on John Boy. I used to feel sorry for him when I watched the movie. The TV series version of the mom seemed a lot nicer. It was a good movie though--great acting by all.
Love the Waltons! You don't find those kinds of well written/family oriented dramas much these days.

I do remember the Homecoming movie. Patricia Neal was kind of overbearing and not endearing as Michale Learned. I have Seasons 1 -7 on DVD and waiting for Season 8 to come out hopefully by the end of the year.

It drives me crazy when they do that with any show. I can understand at certain times of the year (holidays) how they may want to show certain episodes, but otherwise they should leave them in order. Even it that means showing a Thanksgiving episode in June.
