There was music in the 80's?

I just remember noise. But then I don't think I remember all that much from then...

Now Ben, you didn't even like Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen or the Robert Clay Band? What about Don Henley's solo stuff also?

I had enough of my own dire straights, was born in the USA before Bruce was and made plenty of clay dishes in grade school. Wasn't Henley a magician?

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to let y'all know that we're still alive and well. We have made our way back to Walcott, IA and finally have internet access again. All is going quite well. Looking forward to being back home again tomorrow and will post more later...and eventually post a few pictures too.

Reportedly, our DD#1 and 2 have been pranksters while we've been gone. According to multiple reports and cell phone pictures for verification, our all-white male Siberian Husky named Q-Tip...is now all-pink.

Patience grasshopper.

That'll have to wait until we get home. And I have band practice tomorrow night, so may not have time until the next day.

New Pix

We had a good time on our little vacation back home to see Tooshy's parents. They both are around 80. Everything went well. If you recall, Tooshy's mom had a hysterectomy earlier this year because of cancer. She is getting better, having recovered from the surgery except that she's still having difficulities with the incision. It had become infected and had refused to heal. Lately the doctors are seeing a lot of progress as it is now healing quickly. Her overall health seemed much improved and she is getting around fairly well.

Her dad is doing well, recovering from a bout with pneumonia. His biggest issue is his weight. He is reportedly a gaunt 105 pounds. I said that it was too bad that I can't give him a fat transfusion and we'd both be better off.

Tooshy's mom is daibetic too. Her eating habits however are deplorable. Her approach is to eat whatever she wants and just take more insulin. Despite her best efforts to derail, I was able to eat right and maintain my blood sugar in the normal range for the entire trip without insulin.

Laurel, Nebraska where they live is a small town in the northeast part of the state, not far from where Tooshy grew up, and a few miles away from where I grew up. While we were there, I heard on the radio that there would be a square dance downtown. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to look like true hicks, so I drug Tooshy out for the event. Being summertime, not all of them were in the hot garb that is traditional for square dancers. The turnout was small. There were barely enough couples for two squares (eight couples). They were very pleased to have visitors and welcomed us fervently. We had a lot of fun watching.

I thought I'd take a few pictures of Laurel. It would have been nice to get a few shots of the downtown area, which is only a few blocks long...perhaps next time. It's your typical small town in Nebraska.

My great-grandparents came across from Denmark in the late 1800's to settle in Nebraska. Of interst on the way home is a Danish Windmill and Danish Immigrant Museum in Elkhorn, Iowa. I had stopped there with my brother a few years ago, and he tried to convince me to buy the viking hat. This time, in his memory, I actually bought one.

As far as I can tell, all is well. Going camping tomorrow. Just an overnight trip to a campground about a half hour down the road. If I hang around the house, I might hafta do some yard work!

We love going camping. Unfortunately, that only seems to happen a couple times each year. Sometime this fall, we hope to go to Shipshewana, Indiana...a heavily Amish country with plenty of shopping for Tooshy.

I am not so keen on camping either. To many bugs. And I don't want to kill the bugs because the outside is their home...(inside my house is not therefore the have to be killed)

I didn't know that ogres liked square dancing!

Hello from Raleigh, home of the North Carolina State University.....and the Wolfpack! The reason I'm telling you this? Because your little dancing expedition reminds me of something I saw on Thursday on campus. They had all the intramural sports teams out recruiting at the Brickyard, and one team was competetive (believe it or not) ballroom dancing. Yep, dancing. And the name of the team?

Wait for it........

Dances With Wolves!

I love it here!
