Christine, how does one die of arthritis?

What's the exchange rate on the dollar? Or are you using American dollars? We're paing just under $1.40/litre. I think the American and Canadian dollars are still at about par. For those who don't convert, four litres is about one gallon.

Maggie,

Her body was shutting down. She was getting all sorts of ailments, and it's suspected that she had some respiratory illnesses because of her arthritis drugs. She contracted pulmonary fibrosis, which is what is on her death certificate as cause of death.

Oh. that's pretty bad when the drugs meant to help you actually kill you instead.

Alas! An answer to why I can't bear weight on my wright leg. The doctor was nice enough to call from his vacation and let me know that my hip joint is completely gone = bone rubbing bone = severe pain and inability to bear weight. He wants me to see a orthopedic surgeon to see if surgery is possible in my case; if it would be worth it. He won't discuss my options until then.

I'll take all the sympathy or empathy you all can dish out.

Refreshments of choice served at this pity party.

awwww, Marsha, that's nasty news.

On the other hand, if you CAN have surgery, maybe you'll gain mobility and lose pain. That would be good.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{MARSHA}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} . . . I brought the chocolate -- how can one have a pity party without chocolate??

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about the hip joint. That's awful! I hope they can give you an 'up' side when you see the orthopedic surgeon -- you know, like maybe much less pain after surgery or something of that nature. I have a niece who was born with bone defects. She has one artificial hip joint -- 11 years, I think she said. It's worn out now and she needs to have it replaced, only they're replacing it with an 'implant' . . maybe something new they're doing? Not sure. Anyway, she was scheduled to go have it replaced when she fell and broke her leg, so now she's waiting for that to heal to reschedule the surgery. She's had many, many surgeries from the time she was an infant, which should have left her unable to get pregnant, but she also managed to bear 2 children. They are about 7 & 9, I'm thinking.

Marsha, know I'll be praying for you!

One thing I'll be praying for is that they do realize a replacement for you would give you so much more of quality of life. You are not that old that it shouldn't be done!

Hopefully you can have the same results if you have it done too.

Me 4!!!

Bill ... your signature reminded of a great license plate frame I saw this weekend. It was at a pet rescue place. It had the name of the organization on the top, and the bottom said, "Talk to the Paw."

Praying that something can be done that will relieve you of the pain. Sorry to hear you are having to deal with that.

Actually, the pain is bearable, thanks to my cocktail of Baclofen, Lyrica, Ibuprofen, arthritis acetaminophen. The issue is whether the hip replacement will last and whether the long-term side effects of these medications are worse than surgery and recovery.
Right now, I'm headed toward needing a lift. Unless surgery will help me stand again, in my mind, it's pointless. until the pain isn't manageable.

My aide had wires put on her teeth, but she found a sub for this morning. I found one to put me to bed tonight. Tim is here for in between. Now do I want to brave the heat and run around up-town or do I want to stay here?

I've finished the Jeannette Oake movies. They were quite good. Now. what? Now I need to go pay my bills online.

Deb, didn't you say one of your hips is permanently dislocated? How is that not painful?

When I was 19, they put a plastic wedge between the hip joint and where the socket would have been (I was born without a right hip socket). I can't have pressure on it, nor can I bear weight, but other than that it's pretty much pain free!

Without a socket? That implies that your cp occurred before birth, doesn't it?

I got two Waltons movies from Netflex. Good times.
I remember kinda watching it with Mom when I went home on college breaks. She liked John-boy. Back then, it wasn't my kind of show, but I do appreciate it now. It's a relaxing way to pass an evening.

I know I'm fortunate to have been independant for so much of my life. I think of you and others, Deb, and I know I shouldn't complain. I think not knowing what was wrong was the most stressful part. My hands, too, are arthritic and at times tingle from years of over-use, but no regrets here.

I love the Waltons.

What Janette Oke movies have you seen, Marsha? I've got the first 5 or 6 I think.

Actually, I'm grateful that my CP was so severe, because now I'm not much different than I ever was in terms of pain and ability. I tire a little more easily, but so do most 54-year-old women. I have two other friends who had milder CP than mine, and they're both going through struggles like yours, Marsha. My heart goes out to all three of you! Wish I could help!

Well, don't everyone jump in here at the same time. LOL

Thanks for the hug, Trish, Ben, Sharon, Bill, Leah, Chrisi. I missed some of your posts, somehow. The past several days, I haven't had pain, really. It's the loss of ability to transfer from wheelchair to van or bed or recliner by myself whenever the heck I want to and the inability to stand alone that's changed my quality of life so much.
The pain medications have my pain under control. I'm still waiting to find a orthopedic surgeon who takes Medicaid. Actually, I found one in my own town, but he only takes referrals from this county. My doctor's office said to wait until he returns before I make an appointment with any one else.

Even if one is willing to do it, I'm not sure I'm up for it. The long, long recovery, then the rehab to get me back to where I was...if, in fact, I can. Plus, a foreign body part can cause infection. Just a lot to consider.

But, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. I'm ready to fly with eagles again, not trying to make things happen on my time schedule.
