About 6 months...when they are sitting up unassisted. By then, they have enough trunk control to hold them selves up.

ORIGINAL: peculiar_lady2 cool pic Erin!!! so what is your fabric for your new one? My new one is just plain ole blue..well kinda turquoisy...I need to take a pic. I top stitched it in brown to match my diaper bag. I'm making my cousin's girlfriend one for their baby girl...she thought it looked cool and handy. I'm excited for a baby wearing convert! Hers is hot pink and then a brown with pink and green polka dots(I'm making it reversible). Did you do a jersey or a woven cotton?

Yup, this is it. Ok, total novice at babywearing here - I am not going to count the 30 minutes or so I wore him in the baby bjorn front carrier before we both decided we hated it. So new baby is coming in Feb. and I would like to be able to wear her for at least a few weeks to months. I looked at Becco but it seems pricey. Haven't ruled it out though. I am thinking slings are better for newborns? I am "fluffy" as we all like to say and I know some of the styles out there don't work so well in that case. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anybody used this one or something similar? Kris

Kris, I'm a Beco lover But I also have a beco style carrier that I adore, but I made that one. I needed a larger one for carrying a toddler(yes, I still wear my 30lb 2 year old) and the Beco was feeling a bit small. A ring sling or pouch can be good with a newborn, but really, I wore my 6 week old nephew in my Beco and it was fine. I just swaddled him and popped him in there. I plan on doing the same thing with the peanut in my belly :) I do want a ring sling, but I'm not convinced that they are as comfortable.

Kris I am not a babywearing person so I may not know as much as some others who can offer great advice, but I know that I DO NOT like to wear wraps. I bought an ergo which also has a newborn insert and it was awesome!! I used it at times when I had to do housework and my son wouldn't settle and all the time at the shops, when we travelled interstate etc. Its similar in look to the Beco, I don't know the prices over there though.

I loved the ERGO for a while but then for some reason, her weight shifted? and it got uncomfy. I LOVE soft structured carriers, like Ryanne makes, and recently got a BabyHawk Meitei and need to use it. Walking on her own is way too cool now and mom just doesn't match up!

I just bought a Moby. I'm really hoping I like it! I wanted to get it since the baby can breastfeed while in it.

I bought a Moby from the local version of Craigslist. It was only $10, but it is pumpkin orange. Erin, the "bag" slings like you buy from Walmart or Target are NOT recommended at.all. by most die hard babywearers because they are very unsafe and can lead to suffocation. I wouldn't even pass that one on... You are probably hitting the time for a more structured carrier. Did you make a Mei Tei yet?

So you can use both the Moby and becco for newborns? How about the chunei one, Sarah. My computer doesn't like their site but it looked like they had a little bitty in one of the pics. Maybe I'll have to try another browser later tonight. I definitely want to wear this little one, probably for a few months. Certainly through cold and flu season! I don't want to keep Josh in because of the baby because we will all go stir crazy, but I don't want a bunch of toddlers sharing every germ that comes our way in March. Generally I am not too worried about germs, but a newborn in Feb has me a bit more concerned. I am thinking I need one that can be used from newborn to young toddler and isn't too heavy to use in a humid summer. I don't think I want to buy more than one so I am thinking of skipping the sling type, especially if the cheapy ones aren't safe. Any other thoughts? Kris
