Hey, guys. Betty, thanks for your email the other day, much appreciated. Kayla, welcome aboard and I am sure you have much to share to encourage others. Still smoke free and I now view smoking as a abusive friend who has died and I have no interest or regrets in the loss of this person. Over the past few months I have been astounded at how much of an idol these cigarettes were. I believe I had at least 50 areas where I was turning to them instead of Christ and the sad part is I didn't even realize it. Piece by piece and layer by layer this has all been exposed to me and I have dealt with each one until I felt totally emptied out. Does this make sense? Mind boggling, but God is so good and I thank Him daily for His patience with me.

I'll be posting more frequently now as I seem to be operating in my right mind now these days. Thank you Lord!

Yep, I know exactly what you mean. Quitting smoking drew me to repentance in a lot of areas.

Doing very well! Thanks for asking! I'm finding that the physical cravings are pretty much gone, now I'm mainly dealing with the "want to's." I'm still reaching in certain situations, like after a meal or 1st thing in the morning, but it hasn't been nearly as bad this time as it has been before.

I've been praying for God to remove the desire to smoke, and I'm pretty sure that He's answering that prayer!

How is everyone else?

Amen, sister! Did the same thing myself. Cold turkey was the only way I hadn't tried, and it seems to be working where all the other methods failed. Also, to be fair, I am also using the 12 steps to help quit. That seems to be helping immeasurably.

I HAD to quit. Money was the least of my concerns. I already had a heart attack 5 years ago and kept smoking. Now, I'm headed toward COPD unless I quit NOW! I decided my life wasn't over quite yet (I'm only 42) so I had some changes to make. The smoking had to go and after the first of the year, I will be on a new weight management regimen with a new doctor. I'm also getting outside and exercising more. But, one step at a time, one day at a time. Tomorrow (day 6) will be the first time I'll be going somewhere around people who smoke. That'll be a challenge, but one I must face. I can't stayed holed up in my house indefinitely.

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble now. I'll hush up for now but see you all tomorrow!

Day 6 for me. My dad is treating my mom and me (she quit smoking too) to a dinner/night out tonight. That will probably include Starbucks as well. Last night was probably the hardest night I've had so far. I REALLY wanted a cigarette. I still do. But I'm talking to people, getting support, and praying, and I know I will get through this.

Congrats, WwH2! Another day without cigarettes is another day won!

What I recall is REALLY wanting relief from the nagging demand of nicotine, but not actually wanting to have just one for its own sake.

As a reminder, caffeine can make you think you're having a strong crave because its effects are doubled without nicotine in your system.

Keeping busy or exercising are both great ways to get past any craves.

Day 7! At 5:30 pm tonight, it will be a whole week!

I have suffered cravings but by the grace of God, I haven't given into them!

Going to treat myself tomorrow!

Hi Manda! I'm going to have lunch out with my mom (she quit too) and then get our nails done and maybe splurge for Starbucks. I'm just looking forward to a non-stressful day. And Euty, I've decided to order my latte half-caf so as not to get myself too nervous.

Have a good weekend, everyone!
