Not close yet...still at about a pack a day. But still down from that two pack a day habit! I HAVE to get my mind frame on it again. I have found I can go a few hours w/o that cigg tho. I did'ent think that was possible with me. I also don't panic anymore when I only have a few ciggs. left in my pack. That's also a good sign for me. Also...I am starting to find times I don't enjoy that puff anymore. That also is a good sign right? New quit day is set for Nov.12th.

I have found I can go a few hours w/o that cigg tho. When I finally took the step to quit, I found that I could go an hour without nicotine. And, then, another. One at a time. I marked down the day, time, and total number of hours on a piece of paper that I carried with me everywhere I went. As the hours nicotine-free grew, it encourgaed me to go just one more, and then another and another. By the time I was at 120 hours (5 days), I knew all the physical withdrawals had passed. You could look at those few days like a case of the flu. You won't feel well for about 3-5 days, but it will pass and you will then have the strength to remain nicotine-FREE, one day at a time. Those few rough days will seem a small price when you have regained your freedom again. Day 1,146 nicotine-FREE

Something I have not mentioned in the room before, but prior to quitting cold turkey (right after my first post here) I had gone from pretty strong cigarettes to the mildest I could find on the market without increasing the number of smokes I smoked every day. I went from 15 - 20 strong a day to 15 - 20 mild a day. Try replacing the ones you usually smoke with mild ones while cutting back? And maybe even a brand you do NOT like?

Almost smoked a whole pack! I have to watch that, and keep cutting down. This may sound weird, but try it for a couple of days: -keep an elastic band around the smoke pack, so you have to take it off each time before you light up. -when you smoke, put the cigarette in the OTHER hand from the one you usually use, and between two OTHER fingers and two OTHER joints on those fingers then you usually do. A big part is about changing habits. These suggestions will change the way you smoke, hence also how you do this habit. Change other habits too, if it's not too difficult: Drive another way to work/shopping. Change shops. Change times. Drink tea intead of coffee. Drink chocolate instead of Tea. etc.etc. Hopefully it'll keep your mind sufficiently busy to keep some of the trigger situations at least a little bit at bay. You don't have to do it all, but at least try the rubber band and changing hands?

Changing other habits you associate with smoking also helps after you quit. My first major change was that I quit going to the convenience store where I purchased tobacco - it's been over 3 years and I still haven't returned there; not that I'm afraid but because that was the primary reason I stopped there in the past. I also avoided the tobacco lanes at grocery stores until I was strong enough not to have that funny feeling in my stomach when I saw my brand in front of me.

Just two thoughts: 1. NEVER quit quiting. You will eventually start and stick with it. 2. If you stick with it, you will NEVER wake up and say, "I wish I would have caved last night."

ORIGINAL: Bubbles5 Nothing triggered the smokeing yesterday...just was'ent thinking about the count. I have to keep my mind alert to it. Will try useing the other hand today. someday I will beable to say ...it's been three years since I smoked last I know it's only a little thing, but if keeping count can be a problem (and I have concentration issues sometimes, so I can relate), how about hanging on to your next empty packet, and then, when you buy the next pack, transfer half over to the old packet and move the other half (in the new packet) out of the way somewhere. Like up on a high shelf or in a cupboard you don't go to much. It might just help you keep track. Then, of course, later down the line, you could keep more old packets and perhaps divide each new pack into three, or four, and so on. I know the whole pack will still be there, and it wouldn't stop you smoking them if you really wanted to, but it might just be enough to help you keep on top of the count.

Some advice that I was given early into my quit is not to think in terms of forever because it's too big for us to handle or even grasp. As I've mentioned before, I had to take things one hour at a time, sometimes only five minutes at a time, during my first 5 days. Since then, I have only committed one day at a time. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn't promised to us. None of us can adequately grasp the concept of forever. We only have today to commit to. None for me today. I won't buy any, bum any, or put any in my mouth. If I have to go for a long walk, chew a box of toothpicks, snap a rubber band against my wrist, or anything I can think of to make it through the few moments of a craving, I will do it. For today. That is my promise to myself and to you.

Maybe plan ahead when to smoke? F.ex. tomorrow: ONLY one after breakfast and then NOT with the coffee ONLY one during work ONLY one after work ONLY one in the evening If you need more, add one or two times, but work on taking one by one away. Maybe you can get down to two or three within a defined time-period, and then reduce even that. Helps you to go without. Another thing you can do: Wait 5 minutes longer before lighting up after a meal, after work, whenever you usually smoke.
