So, quitters present and future, how was your weekend?

I smoked a little more than half as much as I usually do.

BIG party for my wife, 40 years old. Dinner, wine, people running in and out "to tend to the horse". No horse to tend to here, so I stayed inside.

I DID think that a cigarette would have been nice, but I thought this without any crave. So no crave saved me from the cave.

How far away is the store from where you buy your ciggies?

Still stuggling here. But I'm not giving up.
I tryed the patch Sunday morning. Got myself sick... took it off after half an hour. Went and bought a pack of ciggs afterwards.
Gum did'ent work either. Gonna have to do this my way afterall. Cut waaaay down and just quit. This week I'm working towards a half a pack a day insted of a whole pack. Then I will go down from there until I don't want any at all..not even one a day.

It may be that the patch was too strong for you - that is the strongest one, isn't it? Also, how long after your last cigarette did you apply it?

Do you take any medications regularly btw? And did you start using the patch after consulting with your doctor?

Btw, 4ml gum contains as much nicotine as 2 cigarettes. That may be why it was too much for you at once.

Cutting down to half a pack a day is a good goal.

Can you buy packs of 10 over there btw, as we can here in the UK? Might be easier to stick to 10 a day if you are only buying one pack of 10 per day, rather than having the others sat there in the box.

No..did'ent consult my doctor..did'ent think I needed to. I am on meds for high blood pressure and cholestrol. Mabey I will give him a call. I beleive the products are to strong for me. No you can not buy 10 ciggs around here...it's a whole pack. But I have no problem counting them out.

OH, I'm sorry, did'ent answer all your questions. I put the patch on Sunday morning...had my last cigg. about 13 hours before that. Guess I thought it would be safe enough. I beleive that is the strongest...

Wow, you've surprised me, lol. I didn't think the US would be behind the UK like that!

I think it would be a good idea to see your doctor about this, including telling him what happened with the patch and the gum.

How long is it since your BP and cholesterol were last checked?

I purchased a 10 pack when I was in Scotland back in the early 1970s, I think it was Players brand. I remember thinking, "That's crazy, I haven't smoked less than 20 a day since college."

I have two cigarettes left, I really don't want to buy another pack. Yes, I've said that before and caved.

Think ahead to when you can think back on being through it all. It really doesn't take all that long.

Still in the "cutting down" stage...working on that half-a-pack daily.
I pray for the willpower everynight.

I'm back. My new quit date was October 14 (at 10:45 a.m.). I am wheezing so badly and have a horrible cold but yet I am still craving a cigarette.

Yesterday when I was having cravings I clicked on a link in one of Euty's posts (Why Quit) and kept reading about the harmful effects of cigarettes and reading stories of smokers who died way too young. That helped a bit.

I am also a recovering herion addict and it is so much harder to put down cigarettes than the drugs.

How is everyone else doing?

Welcome back, catlady! The main thing is that you've made another start, and that *has* to be a good thing. Hang on in there!!

hi Bubbles,

Just wondered how close you are now to having a half-pack limit per day?
