I'm Melissa and this is my second year of home schooling. I have a 10th grade boy and two 7th grade girls home schooling this year. (The girls are not twins, the oldest was held back in 1st grade) My 10th grader has ADHD and my oldest daughter has ADHD and Tourette Syndrome with some mild symptoms of OCD. Both my husband and I grew up in public schools, except for one semester of 8th grade where I spent at a Christian school founded by Tim LaHaye. My oldest son went to a Christian school from 4th to one month of 8th grade, then he went to the public Jr. High for the rest of 8th. We prayed about it and asked for forgiveness for not home schooling him the rest of that year. That was one of the biggest mistakes we have ever made, but it was also a huge lesson in learning what we do and don't want for our kids. I'd rather my son not have an education at all then to go back there. And we even live in one of the best school districts on the state of Wisconsin.

We are full time missionaries in Sinaloa, Mexico, and have been here since Feb. '06. Planning on being here for ???? Wouldn't trade having my kids at home for ANYTHING!!!

Hello my name is Tammy, I have an 8 year old that I homeschool. I also have 5 other children. Three have graduated from brick and mortar schools, and 2 are in there last year of high school in the public schools. I saw a deterioratoin of values in the school. I began seeing a push to promote homosexual lifestyles, and way too much acceptance of bad behaviour, so I chose to stay home and home school this child. This is my fourth year, and I am always looking for new ways of making school more exciting. .

Hey my name is Diana, I have a 11 year old daughter. Me and my husband are finishing up CDL classes and plan to be on the road soon. We are researching all homeschool sites to get as much info as possible since we will be schooling our daughter while on the road. Any good info on where to start?

Hi Some of you I've met from the post I made for help. I'm Tricia, aka Trish. We have 4 sons B- 13, T-11, A-5 and A-2 (3 next month) Our older two boys we only have in the summer. Things really get rowdy around here then. We will begin our hs journey in Sep probably. We're taking the whole summer off to goof off and connect. Alex has been in prek for 2 yrs so he needs some goof off time and time with mom and dad. I'm blessed with a wonderful husband! We all have lots of fun together. I am so grateful for finding this site. Everyone's been wonderful!

Hi everyone! I used to lurk a few years ago on this forum, but decided it was time to join. We are in North TX right now, but as my id states, we are moving to OK as soon as we sell our house here in TX. I have wanted to homeschool even before my husband and I were married. I have a 3 1/2 yog that is very strong willed and very active. I couldn't imagine putting her in a formal school setting. I really love the Charlotte Mason method with the short lessons, lots of time outside to burn off the energy, and reading lots of good books. My DH and I went to our first HS conference and bookfair together this month in Arlington, TX (I have been to two conferences before in Plano,TX). He has always agreed to homeschooling, but this was a chance to for him to really dive into it and the opportunity to hear Douglas Phillips twice (different sessions). He is really fired up about it and understands that his role is very crucial and not a token one.

Hello! I am Judy. I have been homeschooling for 6 years. I only have one child left at home now. He is sixteen (and a sweetie). We started out in public school. If I had to do it over, I would have homeschooled from the beginning. Have a wonderfully blessed day!

Hi, I'm Barb and I've been lurking here for a few months, but finally decided to sign up and officially get to know you. My husband and I have homeschooled our 15 year old daughter for all but grade 4. We started out homeschooling because we didn't think she was up to the long school bus ride (over an hour each way) when it was time for kindergarten. Childhood cancer and all that involves kept us homeschooling until she begged to go to school with her friends and cousins in grade 4. We loved the Christian school and it was a good year for Joanna, but by the end of the year we were eager to go back to homeschooling - it just works best for our family. This winter my 16 year old niece moved in with us. She's not a strong student and has been struggling socially and academically at school for the past few years. She wanted to homeschool even before she moved in, but we kept her at the Christian school partly because we weren't sure how long she'd be with us, and partly because I wasn't sure I'm up to the challenge of homeschooling her. Jessica is with us to stay though, and a few weeks ago things fell apart at school, so she's finishing the year at home using their materials. The school has been great, they've agreed to let her make up work over the summer. We've registered with the state to homeschool her next year, but really want her full credits for this past year - so we'll be working all summer. Jess is a great kid, and we're blessed to have her with us. She's got a very different temperament from my daughter though and working with her is a whole new ball game for me! I'm terrified in some ways, but also looking forward to the challenge. I look forward to getting to know each of you better, too! Barb

Hello, My name is Meg and I homeschool our 16 yod and 13yod. We began homeschooling 3 years ago after many years in Christian school. I taught elementary school for 16 years. I use a mix of curriculums. Most of the time I spend in the car driving my 16 yod to ballet classes. Homeschooling has allowed her to focus on her passion.

Hello, my name is Kelli. I am a newbie to homeschooling! We are pulling my 9 yog & 6 yog out of the public school & are going to homeschool! We also have a 3 yr old that I will be doing PreK things with! I have an 18 yog that just graduated & a 15 (on the 23rd) yob that wants to stay in the public school. He will finish his 10th grade then wants to do PSEO. I have looked over a few curriculumns & am very excited to start! The girls are very excited to do their schooling at home too! I am also curious to see how well my 2nd grader will do. She has several disabilities & was declining in grades the end of the school year.

Hey yall, My name is Shelly. I am a Marine wife & former Marine Brat. And my handle is Mommabearx4 (til I think of something more creative) My dh dubbed me mommabear (needless to say he is papabear) when kiddos started arriving as I have collected teddy bears "my whole life." -- 4 indicates how many blessings we have received in 7 yrs of marriage (Jul 99). Ds#1 (almost 7) & Dd#1 (almost 5) arrived in Aug 2 yrs & 1 day apart! Ds#2 (turned 2 in June) arrived 2 wks early (short of 9 mos since dh returned from Afghanistan...ugh people actually questioned us!!) Dd#2 (7 mos today) is our Christmas miracle (only a month early but decided breathing was optional...eek, doing well now on that, just not growing/gaining wt...) Although we have only been officially home schooling since oldest turned 5, I really feel we have been @ it for almost 7 yrs. To live is to learn. We try to make every day & every thing a learning experience. After all, God called us to home schooling, then started blessing us w/ kiddos. My mom instilled a zest for learning in me so I love home schooling. I love been blessed to spend all day w/ my kiddos. I love watching my kiddos learn & discover. I enjoy watching their personalities develop. My biggest stressor is that I am missing something I am supposed to be teaching them--we have an awesome church, but many of the ladies there are elementary ed teachers. I wonder what if they question me on home schooling & think I am failing my kiddos in an area?? I am still learning my kiddos learning styles & am in the throes of making decisions for next year. so I am excited to have found this place to learn. I have been getting the newsletters for over a yr. I never realized crosswalk had forums. Yippee
