Status: offline 		My shepherd has gotten 2 skunks that were coming across the pasture after the chickens. Found 'em dead in the pasture, and somehow he didn't get sprayed. Haven't seen any since - I guess that big deep WOOF! is enough to make them think twice about coming our way.

Status: online 		I can still recall the choice my parents had to make the day Mt Saint Helen's blew. Being in Eastern Washington, we got a fair amount of ash. That was also the day that our dog decided to roll around in dead fish, skunk, or something that smelled just as bad. No one really knew what the ash would do, and we loved our dog dearly, but I recall my parents had a REALLY hard time deciding whether or not to let the dog inside or let her take her chances outside..... I actually can't recall what they actually did, but she lived many more years so whatever happened, she survived!

Status: offline 		Girl, where WERE you? I lived in that part of the state in the seventies, while I was in junior high and high school.....my Mom was living in Moses Lake when Mt. Saint Helens blew!

I was in the USAF by that time and stationed in New Mexico, but Mom told me about being stranded on the roof of her house, after she went up to shovel off ash and the ladder fell down...

I lived on a farm north of Pasco (Tri-Cities). We got enough ash to cover everything but no life-threatening stuff. I still remember coming out of church and seeing the really strange clouds. I remember my parents hauled us home immediately (which they NEVER did - we were always the ones to lock up the church after everyone else left). By the time we got home the ash was falling. I remember my mom telling up to cover our faces and don't breathe in any ash. It was something I'll never forget.

We had livestock as well, but all was well. I still have a jar of ash we gathered as a momento. I think the dog ended up outside. Either that or locked in the laundry room away from us!

I live in the same area now - just in town across the river. It's been interesting to watch the latest rumbling of Helens. Hopefully we've learned a few things since then!

Status: offline 		Hi Phosadaud! I like your thread. I eat 2 weight watchers double fudge cakes, and a bag of chocolate popcorn everyday.
I'm certifiably crazy (have a psy.'s note to prove it), and I have 2 cats and a dog.


Just wanted to pass along some of my boo's (my orange tabby) favorite snacks:
redi-whip whipped cream (spray can)
easy cheese.
mackerel flakes (get em' at world market)
beer (just a few drops) or anything with yeast in it.
and for some reason the catnip from Target is his favorite. (and I've tried all kinds).

I've noticed that Boo eats his catnip now. He used to just roll in it and smell it. But now he thinks it is a snack.

My Phoebe starts drooling when she gets into catnip. Pretty soon her entire head is wet from drooling and rubbing it all over. It's hilarious.

Ever tried a laser pointer (dogs or cats)? I think it is the best investment you can ever buy with pets. Hours of endless entertainment. Just be careful. If your dog is like mine you have to be careful where you point it. She doesn't watch where she's going when she chases it and has been known to run headfirst into walls and such....

Status: offline 		We get lots of comedy productions around here. Bailey's granny, (not me), is constantly throwing the ball to him and it rebounds off of a pilon and hitting herself with the ball. If Granny and I are messing about harrassing each other in front of him, he has to be a part of it too. Paws and his tongue going everywhere.

Status: online 		With a cocker and 3 cats (one of whom is a kitten), my house is endless entertainment! Of course, the jumping all over the bed at 4am isn't so entertaining but we're working on that....

Ever blown bubbles for your dog? Talk about cheap entertainment (for us and the dogs)!

Status: online 		Anyone have an enforcer or a tattle-tale? My Audrey is always trying to keep the cats in line. When they get up on the counter, she barks at them. When I scold them for doing something naughty, she runs over and gets in their face. Of course, she doesn't seem to think that she must abide by the same rules, but she certainly let's me know when one of the cats is breaking the rules...

On the other hand, when she gets in trouble, I think the cats just sit back at laugh at her....
