ORIGINAL: B-longs2Jesus quote:
But Thou My heart overwhelmed with sorrow would be, But Thou, oh Lord, art such comfort to me. Fear comes once more to grip my heart, But Thou, oh Lord, my Peace Thou art. The journey seems bitter, the journey seems long But thou, oh Lord, replace all with sweet song. Hopelessness threatens, despair would abound, But Thou, oh Lord, my beauty and my crown. Of Your loving-kindness, of tender mercies so kind, Now I see You, when once I was blind. Once glimpse again, of Your sweet Face All pain forgotten, all fear erased. Oh, Lord, My name in Your wounds I see, Mercy still free, while I cry, why me? Lifted once more to glorious realm And Thou, Oh Lord, still my joy and my crown! How beautiful! Did you write this beautiful poem CherishedbyGod? I'm so sorry, I just found this. Yes, I wrote it and I thank you so much for your kind comment.....

Oh, Comfort Your People ~And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. A rare thing it is to have one’s name mentioned in Scripture. His name was Simeon and his brief story can unfold beautiful mysteries about God’s ways with His people.~ The name Simeon means “hearkening” so we are safe to conclude that He was a man who listened, for during Biblical days a person’s name was a reflection of their character. He was devout and he was waiting for the consolation of Israel. The consolation of Israel was the Messiah to come. It was a dark time in Israel during the birth of Jesus. For an unknown reason, Simeon was troubled or frightened because after He recognized the Lord’s Christ he told God that he was ready to die in peace. He saw and recognized that the Deliverer, Comforter, our Peace had come as promised. Beloved, have we seen our Deliverance, our Saviour, our Freedom from death, pain and fear? Do we experience the peace of God? Have we seen, with the eyes of trust, the goodness, mercy and compassion of God in the Person of Jesus Christ? Oh, His arms are outstretched to us! What makes Simeon, precious to me was His obvious relationship with God. From our short glimpse of him, we know he had a holy but healthy fear of God. He had obviously fled for refuge from his fears into the arms of God and poured out his heart to him. This we know because God comforted him by promising him that he would not die before he saw the face of God in the person of Jesus Christ. Hence, he was looking for Him, our Peace. Have we cried out to Jesus in our distress? God kept His word to Simeon and He will keep His word, His promises to us. He is completely trustworthy. All that we need to do is cry out to Him and flee to Him for refuge, courage and strength. He will be our Peace. He will be our Comfort. ~Comfort ye, comfort ye, my people saith you God~

Oh, So Precious! I am grateful God chose human instruments to be the vessels to write the Bible. For it allows us treasured glimpses into the love, grace and tender-mercies of God, colliding with sinful men and women. It is story upon story of His love, transforming these men and women into priceless masterpieces; the crown jewels of His creation. Such a one is the Apostle Peter. Many of us know his story: an unlearned fisherman of Galilee, chosen by Jesus of Nazareth to be one of the twelve apostles who would change the world. One of the three, in the inner circle of Jesus and…the one who denied he knew Jesus with oaths and curses. But Jesus never gave up on Peter as He lovingly forgave and patiently taught His mortified disciple. Indeed, Jesus continued to show him special favor as Peter was allowed to preach the first sermon after the death and resurrection of Christ, amongst other things. Peter was and continues to be used mightily as an example of the transforming power that the grace and love of God desires to bring to an individual. As we look closely at the writings of Peter, which came towards the end of his life, we are afforded wonderful glimpses into his heart and what sustained him, especially as he neared martyrdom. Having done this recently, one word in particular stood out to me; the word precious. Peter used the word precious to describe three things. Looking closer at this word, Strong’s Greek Dictionary describes it as: valuable, that is, (objectively) costly, or (subjectively) honored, esteemed, or (figuratively) beloved: - dear, honorable, (more, most) precious, had in reputation. Remembering that Peter had intimate fellowship with Jesus as Jesus walked this earth, let us look at the things that became precious to Peter. The first is the blood of Christ. Nothing is more valuable to God than the blood of His Son. Without the shedding of Christ’s blood for us, we would be forever separated from God and everything that is good. Charles Spurgeon writes ~ standing at the foot of the cross, we see hands, and feet, and side, all distilling crimson streams of precious blood. The blood of Jesus! Sin dies at its presence, death ceases to be death: heaven’s gates are opened. The blood of Jesus! We shall march on, conquering and to conquer, so long as we can trust its power! ~ Next, we see Peter describing our faith as precious: ~ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ~ . Oh, matchless grace of God! For here God uses the very individual whose faith had failed to describe our faith or trust in God as more precious than the finest thing in the world. God had born long with His servant that failed Him; patiently and lovingly teaching Him, all the while strengthening Peter until one day he would be an epitome of faith; an example to the whole world of what God can do with a fallen disciple. Blessed, blessed Jesus! How we love You that You are this way! Finally, Peter points to one more thing that is precious. It is the Lord Jesus Christ, Himself. He is so very precious to God our Father and He is precious to every believer ~ Unto you therefore which believe he is precious…~ As the Christian comes to know this God, in an ever-increasingly intimate way, the more beautiful He becomes. The more we see of Him, the more we love Him. The longing of our hearts becomes to see His face and to gaze into His eyes. Are these things precious to us, my dear reader? It is God’s desire that they would be. Oh, how He longs for us to trust Him! How He longs for us to count His blood the most valuable thing ever. How Jesus Christ, Himself wants to be the most precious One in our life. Scripture References: 1 Peter 1: 7 1 Peter 2: 7

Gentle Shepherd, Come, Speak and Call Me! ~ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name…~ Jesus Christ of Nazareth It is one more thing I love about my God that He would condescend and call Himself, Shepherd. For shepherds in the days of Christ were looked upon with disdain. Theirs was a profession considered only one step above the despised publicans; the tax collectors of the time. They were dirty, unkempt men, not the image portrayed to the Western World of these days. But such are the ways of my God; He condescends to lowly positions so that the lowly and those that feel like outcasts might feel welcome in His fold. ~ The sheep hear his voice ~. Oh, speak again, dear Shepherd! And then He speaks again to make certain I know it is Him. That voice; the one voice that is so soft and gentle, the voice that is so tender and kind, the voice that whispers love and comfort to my sorrowful heart. There is only one voice like it. All His sheep recognize that voice once they truly come to know Him. It is the voice that calms the winds, that stills the raging in our minds, that brings hope to the hopeless, that brings strength to the weary. It is the voice that comforts the grieving of heart while He whispers… ~ I will never leave Thee or forsake thee~. And then He calls His own …. I am His! He is mine! I am one of His fold. While all else fails around me, yet one rock-solid truth remains…I am His and He gives unto me eternal life; and I shall never perish, neither shall any man take me out of His nail-pierced hand. Finally, ~ he calleth his own sheep by name…~. How tender and intimate is this! For, in those days a person’s name revealed their character. When Jesus calls His own by name it means He knows our character and is intimately acquainted with all our ways. Indeed, He is so intimately involved with every detail of our life that He states, ~ But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore… ~. What a Shepherd He is! He knows me intimately, and yet He will never let me be taken out of His hand; why my very name is written into the wounds in His hands and he says to me, ~ Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee ~. Scripture References John 10: 1-3 Hebrews 13: 5b Luke 12: 7 Jeremiah 31: 3

Don't Worry The excuses I made for that phantom image of where and what I should be, Jesus explained, that time I had wasted in worry was time He had spent loving me. Our precious lives will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last.

Beholding God “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life” (1 John 1:1). The great Apostle, John begins both this Epistle and the Gospel of John speaking of God. It is as if his heart is full and overflowing with thoughts of the One that he was so close to. He tries his best to communicate to us of Jesus Who he dearly loved. He had touched the face of God and he wants to share with us the reality of Immanuel, God with us. He first reminds us that Jesus is from eternity past. He is the great “I AM” of the prophets of old. He is the self-existent One and there has never been a time that He did not exist. At the perfect time the Heavenly Father sent Him to us. During the thirty-three years that He lived upon this earth, Jesus was God veiled in human flesh. John heard Him speak the words of eternal life. If we need to know what God the Father is like, we need only study the life of Christ to hear the words of God. He speaks in many ways but, in the gospels the kind, gentle heart of God is opened up to us through the words of Jesus. John then tells us that he gazed upon the Face of God with his own eyes. Such a Face was veiled for centuries from mankind but John saw His lovely Face. Such tenderness, compassion and loving-kindness radiated from those Divine Eyes. Such peace and tranquility was etched in that Face. John could not get close enough to God so he laid his head on the breast of God gazing into the Face of his Beloved. And then as if it was not enough to say that he saw the Face of God he said that he looked upon the Word of life, Jesus. When he said that he looked upon Jesus, it means that he observed closely or perceived. John studied his beloved Jesus; he could not help but study this beautiful Being. Finally, at the close of this verse, John said that he handled God. He touched the heart of God with his love and his hands handled the being of God. It was if he wanted to be sure that this was truly God in the flesh. So enraptured with love for his Jesus, he must touch Him to fully believe that this very One was real. The word “handled” means to “verify by contact”. In the end, John must share with us the reality of God manifest in the flesh. He was actually there with Jesus for three blissful years but he never forgot Who he saw, Who he gazed upon and Who he handled. He so adored the Son of God that he must share with us the One Who was so real to him so that we might look, gaze upon and handle Him with a heart full of faith.

HIS HANDS The hands of Christ Seem very frail, For they were broken by a nail. But only they Reach heaven at last Whom these frail, broken Hands hold fast. - John Richard Moreland

Here is part of a poem I love about suffering: Ye are told of One who loved you, Of a Saviour crucified, Ye are told of nails that pinioned, And a spear that pierced His side; Ye are told of cruel scourging, Of a Saviour bearing scorn, And He died for your salvation, With His brow against a thorn. Ye "are not above the Master. "Will you breathe a sweet refrain? And His grace will be sufficient, When your heart is pierced with pain. Will you live to bless His loved ones, Tho' your life be bruised and torn, Like the bird that sang so sweetly, With its heart against a thorn? --Selected As taken from the Devotional Book Streams in the Desert - public domain Mrs. Charles Cowan __________________

Like, John, we also marvel at Jesus' existence of everlasting to everlasting. O, how we desire to be and rejoice in the presence of our Lord through His Word and His Spirit - to look upon, and handle... Praise GOD! Thank you, CherishedbyGod, for this touching, insightful devotion on John's thoughts of Jesus. (I was waiting for the next one ). dwain, I quite agree with CherishedbyGod, what a tremendous truth in so few words. I did not know John Richard Moreland, so I did a quick search and this was a quote that popped up: Prayer is not artful monologue Of voice uplifted from the son; It is Love's tender dialogue Between the soul and God. - John Richard Moreland

Thank you for sharing that. Isn't it precious the way He so gently and sweetly speaks to us I remember when I first began recognizing His voice speaking to me. I was both shocked that He would speak to me but I was soooooo excited!!! Still am that He would love me enough to speak to me. I thought of you two days ago - the thread you started about God's creation...I spend most of my quite time in my bedroom because I have almost a whole wall full of windows and glass doors where God speaks to me almost daily through my beautiful view. He parades all sorts of wonders of His creation by my adoring eyes....I know He loves to do it and I just love it because He teaches me so much about Himself that way. Well, two days ago, I started a brand new study that I am very excited about (written by a poster from these forums)....I am excited about it because I just know God is doing a new work in my life and is also going to use it in my ministries. As if to confirm it, while I was doing the study, He floated a butterfly slowly by my eyes and He told me I am becoming a butterfly Thank you so much for your so-kind encouragement!!!! It means so much to me!!! I will find some more.... blessings to (((you)))

I keep my B-day cards, Christmas cards and Easter cards, Here is one from an Easter card my sister sent me. Jesus lives- He lives forever! He has opened up our way for a life of peace and freedom to enjoy God every day. Jesus lives and walking with Him, we recieve forgiving love, find our comfort and guidance, set our hearts on things above. Barbara Loots Pss.123 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

When They Ministered to the LORD ~ Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them ~ Here is a beautiful description of God’s desire for us. After the above mentioned came to know and love Jesus, they found Him so irresistible that they first and foremost ministered to Him. It was Jesus they desired. God adores and cherishes us. We are His beloved. His great heart longs to have fellowship and intimate time together with us. Before our service, ministry, or anything else He wants us! A few months back, feeling a cooling off of my heart towards Him, I realized that I had put my ministry and other things before Him. The fire that burned in my heart for Him had dimmed. The pure love of wanting to learn more about Him and His wonderful ways with me had diminished. I will share a little poem I wrote shortly after I realized the cooling off of my relationship with Him: Most Treasured Love My heart has wandered from Thee, O, Spirit of God, come, set me free. Restore unto me a pure love, O, come, sweet, gentle Dove! It is Thee I desire to seek, For all of my days. O, Dearest Jesus, To know more of Thy ways. Bring me back to gaze on Thy Face, Help me behold Thy mercy and grace. Sweet Jesus it is You alone I desire, Send forth Thy love as consuming fire. For you are beautiful, most treasured Love, Father, Son and Holy Dove. Let my life be simply for Thee For me You died on Calvary’s Tree How He desires to be first in our hearts. How He desires that we don’t lose our first love. It was when the first Christians ministered first and foremost to Jesus that the Holy Spirit said ~Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them~. The early church turned the world upside down. God can do the same through us as we minister to and love first the LORD. 05/06 Re-submit.... Author's note: I wanted to post this again as I just found out last night that it was published in a magazine and it made me happy. I would not have known unless I googled myself last night because the dude did not even let me know

For the Love of Christ ~For the love of Christ constraineth us~ Never has a mortal body been so full and driven by the love of God. A murderer and persecutor of the new sect of Christianity, he was full of hatred against Christians and their God. And yet, while on his way for further persecution of the Church, the greatest Light of Love knocked him to the ground and, arguably, the greatest love story between God and His creature began. ~For the love of Christ~; ~for the love of Christ constraineth us~! Up and down the land and by sea his wearied body could hardly contain the love of God that swelled within him. From that day, onward his whole life was full of and for the One Who so constrained him; held, as with a vice, by the love he once tried to destroy. What is it that has kept millions of Christians faithful to the God-Man Who walked this earth two thousand years ago? The love of Christ is the great underlying motive. We must consider, however, it is not just love. It is the love of God. It is the love of God to us. As one continues the Christian journey, questions abound when sorrow and pain come. We would turn from this God if we could, at times. Our hearts might harden to Him as we wear down through this difficult life. But the more difficult the circumstance, the more this love abounds to and keeps us. Tender are the gentle whispers to the heart that is grieving. Faithful is the right hand that mightily holds us in its grasp. Persistent is the seeking heart of the good Shepherd as He goes after the lamb that would wander away. No matter how we would run from Him, attempting to flee the pain He allows, the more the Divine impulses of love hold our heart as He pours out His infinite wisdom and goodness upon us as only an all-wise God can do. The deeper the valley, the more of His love our heart can contain. Until…we are finally able to say, even though the difficulty might not be over, ~the love of Christ~ constrains me. Oh, what a firm foundation that we stand upon! What irresistible pleasure we continue to have in our God even when we cannot see the end of the difficulty. We press on, upwards towards the ultimate goal of seeing our Saviour’s face clearly…and the Divine Eyes that gaze on us now and forever in perfect love. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 31-35, 37-39 Cherished, 9.13.07

You Alone, Jesus Part Four ~ Consider Jesus~ You alone Jesus, are the great ~I AM~. You are our great God. When human history began, You revealed Yourself to man. As human history progresses, you increasingly reveal Yourself to the human race. How the angels must have bowed in adoration when You appeared as Immanuel; God with us. Finally, the greatest revelation of God appeared as ~the glory of God was revealed in the Face of Jesus Christ~. How beautiful, how beautiful is Your face! One, who was closest to You, leaned his head upon Your breast as he took final glimpses of Your glorious Face. As You revealed Yourself throughout history to man, so You reveal Yourself in increasing measure to an individual soul as they journey the Christian life. You have revealed Yourself in increasing measure to me, as I seek Your face throughout my life. How beautiful You are, My God! Oh, ~how great is Thy goodness; how great is Thy beauty~ to me, oh God. You alone, Jesus are our good Shepherd. You seek us when we wander away from You. You carry us back to the fold and safety as You place us on Your shoulders, the place of strength. How great is Your strength, Oh, God! As You carry the grown sheep on Your shoulders, You carry the lambs in Your bosom, near Your heart, the seat of Your affection. From that place, the little lambs hear Your whispers of love and tenderness; Your gaze of affection meets their young innocent eyes. Our great Shepherd You are also; declared to be when our Father raised You from the dead. Hallelujah, You, our great God, have risen from the dead! You alone, Jesus are our Refuge to Whom we may flee. You enfold us under Your wings of warmth and security as You still the fear within us. Our shelter, our hiding place You are, a place of safety where no evil can befall us. When You hear our cries, You swoop down to cover and protect us while You whisper words of endearment to us. None can fathom the peace we experience as You quiet our fears with the tenderness as a mother with a small, frightened child. Thank you, O, Jesus for Your tender mercy and kindness, my God. Thank You that you soothe our greatest fears and pain with the shelter of Your presence where no evil dwells. In the shelter of Your presence, In the safety of Your arms, I will make myself a refuge, From all harm, from all harm. I will cast my cares upon You Make Your peace my final home, In the shelter of Your presence In the safety of Your arms. Song lyrics: Terry Clark Devotional: cherished – 1/25/07 __________________

What Jesus Sees And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. - Matthew 9:35-36 In my meditation on Matthew 9, I've noticed how Jesus sees people differently than the way I see people. He sees what's going on on the inside while I look on the outside. If I were one of Jesus' disciples following him around as he ministered to people's needs... - In verse 2, I would have seen a paralyzed man, while Jesus saw the faith of those who lowered him into the room.
- I would have seen a man in need of physical healing. Jesus saw a man desiring to have his sins forgiven. He saw the unspoken repentance of the paralytic.
- In verses 3 and 4, I would not have noticed anything about the scribes, but Jesus 'saw' their evil thoughts.
- In verse 9, I would have seen a political traitor to my people, but Jesus saw a new disciple.
- In verses 10 through 13, I would have seen what the Pharisees saw: Jesus eating with a bunch of sinners. Jesus saw them as spiritually sick, in need of healing, and was mercifully leading them to repentance.
- In verses 20 to 22, I would have seen an unclean woman brush up against my master. Jesus saw her secret sickness, and her faith to be made well (i.e. the touch of faith, not the casual touch of everyone else)
- In verses 23 through 25, I'd have seen a dead girl. Jesus saw her as asleep.
- In verse 36, I would have seen the crowds harrassing my master, and hoping they would go away so I could spend some 'quality time' with Him. Jesus saw them as harrassed and scattered sheep and was moved with compassion towards them.
I've always been a bit obtuse when it comes to the obvious, not to mention the less obvious things such as what Jesus saw. What was going on in people's hearts in the gospels is revealed there in the printed word, but I don't have that advantage for people I encounter in my daily life. So, I've been asking Jesus to help me to see people as He sees them, and to give me a heart of compassion, so that I can serve the way He would have me to. That is what He wanted of His disciples when He gave them the vision of what He saw... Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. - Matthew 9:37-38 Do I see those around me as burdened or just a burden? Do I see them as 'white unto harvest'? Do I have a heart of compassion as Jesus wants me to? (Thought I'd shared something I had posted on another site not too long ago about my Jesus!)

You Alone, Jesus ~ so, so true CherishedbyGod, this is a post of worship! We adore You, Jesus! HalleluYah! Jesus, My All in All... Welcome to the forums, AndyBern. I feel your post is succinct and thought provoking, asking us to take a different perspective on the people Jesus encounters. You go even further challenging us to look into our own hearts, and at the same time praising our compassionate Jesus, our teacher, our savior.

Imprisoned! Captured by His love I would like to think I am a total prisoner of the Love of Christ. However, in reality I don't believe I am quite there, as of now. The Apostle Paul. He was a total prisoner of the Love of Christ. With hatred for Jesus and this new "sect" in his murderous heart, he set out destroy them. But then the great encounter occurred as a radiant blaze of LIGHT knocked him to the ground to be forever a prisoner of LOVE - one of the greatest love stories ever told. ~For to me to live is Christ~ he would boldly proclaim to the world. Someday... I hope to be a complete prisoner, gladly enclosed forever in by the bands of His wondrous love. Every time I get angry with God in confusion and pain He waits...knowing that my oft-stubborn heart will eventually ask the question again ~ Lord, to whom shall I go? Thou hast the words of eternal life~ gladly, captured and irresistibly drawn in again by His passionate love for me. There was a tiny, wild bird that flew into my house one day. It began to desperately fling its little body against the walls of my home, captured in a place it did not want to be. The tiny little creation of God could not have known it was imprisoned within the walls of a home of someone who cries over the suffering of God's creation. I managed to somehow capture it and take it to the vet for healing. When I called regarding its condition the following day it had been set free. He will let us go free, if we choose. But when we instead decide to become a prisoner of the Love of Christ that is when our true freedom begins.
