So I was thinking about the concept of eternal life.

A million years, a billion years, a trillion, a billion trillion, a billion billion trillion, a gazillion million billion trillion bazillion gazillion years,

and you're just getting started.

A 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000 years, and you're not even getting warmed up.

Can anyone describe a life in Heaven that would not get old after the birth and death of a trillion million bazillion universes?

No I can't however 'time', with a beginning and end as mortals understand it, will be 'changed in an instant' into the current eternal continuum of eternity past, present and future.

It's even worse than that. Eternal life also has no beginning. So you have to start adding zeros in the opposite direction also.

In Heaven, we will be with Jesus, and we will be fulfilling completely that for which we have been created. To those of us who know Him, we know that will never "get old".

Peace

Can you imagine, I mean just look at the universe and its beauty, I can't wait to see the Creator (I AM THAT I AM) of it all. My wife read a quote by Beth Moore she said no matter what our idea of God is, when we see Him we will all be like WOW I was not even close!!!!!

There doesn't seem to be any need for the concept of time when it comes to eternity - I don't think we will be too bothered about counting the days, years, etc - we'll be too busy worshiping God

2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

It doesn't appear to matter.

Can you even begin to imagine an endless universe?

Acutually half of infinity is still infinity. An infinately small fraction of infinity would still be infinity. So eternal life may only be part of eternity in that although it had a beginning in Christ it has no end in Him also. Now if life were temporal and thus measureable, it would have a definte end.

I thought I had a glimpse of eternity waiting for my first child to be born.

Another time was during my first root canal.

Most recently, waiting on my stimulus rebate check...

So, no, trying to imagine eternity is not within my ability.

I think it isn't necessarily correct to limit the understanding of eternal life to the endless amount of time, it seems God dwells outside of time and eternal life is knowing God. We may not really be able to describe what it's like, but get a foretaste of it in Christ even now.

John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Every description of the afterlife in the Bible and on this forum implies time as we know it.

If time will not pass as we know it, then the nature of the afterlife is incomprehensible.

Every description of the afterlife in the Bible does not imply time as we know it just look at the verse mariadreamer gave:

John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

This verse tells us that eternal life is knowing God and His Son and that about sums it up.

I liked this post. It really got me thinking about a few things. One is this...we are spiritual beings, all of us. As Christians we are here on earth and we know that this isn't home. We are just strangers passing through. So you know when you have taken a vacation and it is just so good to get to your home again and just be home. That awhhh feeling. I think that might be what Heaven feels like to us as believers. Like YES, FINALLY. I'm home....maybe?

I like what you said, about having the feeling of belonging there. I mean just think every Utopian feeling the human can have, God created. Happiness, Comfort, Love, pleasure, I mean just think about all this that we can feel now, just think about when we are in the presence of Holy God the emotions that must just flow off of Him. If we really think about the power of our God, the God that spoke the universe into existence!!!!! AWSOME!!! Can you imagine seeing HIM Face to Face????

Could eternal life be but a contrast to the life we lead now? That is in this life we grow weary, tied and old. We get sick and used to live in fear of death. The contrast is then apparent in eternal life for now it is not common for men to not want to live the lives they currently live for ever. I remember a missionary asking a poor woman if she wanted to live forever and looking around her at her daily struggle to live she said no. Is this eternal life then but a life with out stuggle, death, sickness and really just abundant life. I may not be able to comprehend endless time but I can imagine endless/unlimited/unrestrained joy in Christ.

We then do not measure love in terms of time so why should we measure life in such terms? You could say that many today haven't begun to live.

Well... Yosemite never gets old, and that's still under the curse of sin. And God made a whole universe to explore, but I might be too busy being with Jesus!

I remember someone saying you can trust God for the things you can't see by looking at what He's done that you *can* see. Or something like that.
