It started last week when hubby noticed a couple of dead yellow jackets on our bedroom floor and since then it seems like we have more dead yellow jackets everyday. I've never seen yellow jackets before since we were living in the west but I'm so ugggh about it that we've been sleeping in our guest room. I read that they will eventually go away once the weather starts cooling down but someone educate me where they're coming from and why are they dead laying on my floor. Hubby looked for a crack but can't seem to find any. The only thing I can think of is that there's a floor vent in our bedroom near the window and I'm assuming that's where they came from...but why are they dead?

We've had problems with wasps coming in--figured out that the screening on the inside of one of the gable vents was off, wasps had made a nest in the attic. There is an old wall heater that we no longer use that vents through the ceiling and & roof, they were getting in around the heater--those little critters can squeeze through the smallest little crack.

Sometimes it's easier to find the outside hole, then the inside hole.
On a nice day it's easier to see all the coming and going from the outside hole and you can find where they're getting in. If not, check the attic and basement.
We had a similar problem when I was growing up. My mom watched each wall for a bit and pinpointed where they were coming in and then dealt with them from that there and repaired the hole.

Yellow Jackets nest in the ground. Maybe soil has built up in your central air unit and they built a nest there to be sucked up and blown into the airducts.... They are attracted to buzzing sounds and will attack other buzzing sounds. We had a nest near the electrical box by our street and they swarmed, attacking the lawnmower and my hubby!
I would suggest you remove the outer cover on the c/a unit this fall and scrape away any debris. You really don't want to fool with a nest except during cool times or evening when it's much cooler and then be prepared with a can of spray.

Thanks for the lawnmower hint. I was actually mowing the lawn this afternoon and found out where they were coming from. The siding next to the air conditioning --- they're going through a crack, looks like an inside crack from the siding. I saw them coming my way while mowing and turned off the mower and pretty much they diverted their direction going back to the siding. At least I know now where they're coming from.
