I haven't purchased a paper book in in years. I am totally hooked on audio-books. Anyone else?

I have thought about purchasing, but so expensive, a friend said they were great for traveling.

ORIGINAL: KaseyTom I haven't purchased a paper book in in years. I am totally hooked on audio-books. Anyone else? I love audio books, too. I checked out audablebooks.com and I found them to be quite expensive. They allow on one plan, 1 book a month. I can go through a book in a few days, or the most a week. Their selection of Christian audio books was somewhat limited. I had read most of what I saw already. I personally don't like programs where I have to contact them to stop them billing my credit card. I used to get books from Cracker Barrel restaurant chains. But they offered so few spiritual books I stopped. But it was only 3-4 dollars a week. I just don't live close enough to go there. Many public libraries also have an audio book section. I listened to Randy Alcorn's audio book on Heaven. It was 12.99 and he is the reader. It was GREAT! It is a gift I give often and I have yet to find someone that doesn't love it! My mom was so enthralled by it, she listened for two days straight. Blessing on your journey. I love using my drive time with a great audiobook that teaches me new things in the Lord. If you have any recommendations I would love to share others I have listened to as well. Love and Prayers, Karyn

Audible.com books are also offered through the iTunes music store. Sometimes there are specials. I don't buy them very often, but I did buy "The Shack" when they had it for like $6.99

My local library has audio books you can check out for FREE. Most libraries now offer videos too but some of them rent them out as a fund raiser.

ORIGINAL: ta_mosquito I love librivox.org - FREE public domain audiobooks. Granted, some of the readers are not quite professional quality, but I ain't complainin'! I an going to have to check out some of those titles. I also use Oneplace.com to download mp3 audio sermons. I really like Greg Laure and his are 100% FREE, some preachers like to charge for their downloads.

I surprised people find audible.com expensive. For 29.99 a month I can download 2 audio-books a month. Any unused credits accumulate (up to 12) if I don't use them. $15 is pretty cheap for a 20+ hour unabridged audio-book. The CDs in the bookstore go for $40+.
