I am just wondering if you think it is OK to judge others. If so, when? If not, why? Try to select the option(s) you identify with most.

Judgment is a hot button issue. Judgment of another's eternal salvation is inappropriate; only God(Christ Jesus)and the individual knows for certain. The only criterion we(as mortals)have is their assessment in His obedience/scarifice/Victory. In that sense we're called to 'assess', respond appropriately and take them at their word however I take them at their word as far as one's salvation. When the soul claims to be redeemed by the same blood as me and doesn't exhibit the 'fruit of the Spirit' and wallow in their own juices I love them from afar; the Holy Spirit will deal with their heart.

I think it's absolutely crucial to judge the character and teachings of those we choose to put in authority over us, especially in spiritual matters (pastors, teachers, etc) and political matters. I'm not talking about salvic issues here at all, but I think we need to be very aware of the necessity of being discerning when it comes to our spiritual leaders especially. And, since we have the privilege of choosing our political leaders, we should be discerning in voting as well. We also must be discerning in allowing others to affect our activities and thoughts... this doesn't mean we shouldn't be around "questionable" people, since we are called to be salt and light, but we do need to make sure that we're really being salt and light. But, I suppose that's more judging how we're reacting and adapting, than judging them. ;)

We only fool ourselves if we think we don't judge people all the time. It is a survival instinct. You have to make a judgment by the way they look right off the bat ( even though we all know it is what is inside that counts ). You have to decide if strangers look trust worthy or to be avoided. We judge people by their actions or we would not know how to respond appropriately to them. We watch and make judgments through out the entire day. I believe with LCannon, I know what the bible says about salvation and I believe it to be the true Word of God. BUT since I cannot climb into someone's heart and head to see if they understand God, then I find it is not my place to judge their salvation. That is something that only God can judge.

really? what is that line? You have to make a judgment to form an opinion. So I don't understand where you would draw a line between them.

Yes, it is ok to judge using the biblical outlines. In fact we have to in order to not be led astray or to lead others astray. We do indeed make judgments everyday, to think that we don't mean we turn a blind eye to ourselves.

It depends on whether you are in authority or not. If a person is overseeing a ministry they have the right and perhaps the mandate to judge those involved in that ministry. That is how church dicipline is carried out. The guy in 1 Cor who was having an affair with his step-mother was judged by Paul and the leaders of the congregation were told to kick him out. (judge him)

Better results from people that way, I've found. I actually disagree. The Bible is God's absolute Word for all of mankind. The core essentials of biblical Christianity are not up for debate in the sense that we are not yet sure about what they are or if they are absolute. Again, I am not talking about secondary issues which we can disagree on, not divide over, and or not yet fully know... The veracity of the Bible being divine rather than human in origin is amazing and what turned me, a former atheist, and many other non-believers to followers of Jesus Christ. We live in a pluralistic and relativistic society that has even self-professing Christians making statements like, "I believe....", "It is true for me......." has non-believers, skeptics asking themselves... "well these people believe such and such.. no different than the Muslim.. no different than the Jehovah's Witness, no different than the Mormon that when asked how does he know what he believes is true? Simply responds, 'because of the burning in my bosom.." No. Either we know why we believe what we believe.. or we're no better than the person lost in a cult and dead in their sin.

I was just praying (railing?) about this today during my walk to work. The more I am not around my friends who are not Christians--which I haven't been lately--and the more I work on my relationship with God and work to grow closer to Him, the less tolerance I have for "not judging." I am probably going to start a thread on this, but I find myself living more "offensively" for Christ. And I have made some people very angry over the last few months by calling them on things. I am working this out currently and rest assured I am constantly in repentance for things in my own life. (In other words, I am pulling out logs.)

We all judge all the time, even if we don't like to admit it. One thing to consider is this: we will be judged by the same standards we judge others.

I think Jesus Christ already gave us the answer when He said "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you."

I am optimistic that you did this benignly. However, JW's in their doctrine, have changed an article from THE, to A, in their interpretation of John 1 v 1, and thereby condemned themselves to Hell. Be VERY careful of what bible versions you use... Good catch there earthless...
