Lots of people like different types of books. What kind of book is your favorite?

I like historical novels. People going across the prairies in search of a new life. Times of prior to the Canadian Mounties, and when they were just starting. Early centuries in England, Ireland etc. Stories like 'Little Women', 'Emma', 'Jane Eyre' etc.

I also love true stories about animals, dogs in particular. For example, I love, 'Marley & Me'.

Fantasy is first up, then old fashioned murder mysteries like Phillip Marlow and Mike Hammer. Then comes what I guess you call adventure, guys like David Baldacci, Joel Rosenberg, James Patterson. I read very little non-fiction.

ETA:Oh yeah, add old school sci fi like Phillip K Dick and Robert Sheckley after fantasy before murder mysteries.

I guess I can't vote. There is no option for science fiction or fantasy (or the odd technical manual now and again).

Hear, hear!

The creator of this poll must have been female! Guys like books about how to do stuff. How things (and societies) work. See this article on science fiction as the special delight / lifeline of adolescent lads.

I have to say I am a sucker for a good Karen Kingsbury or Nicholas Sparks, but I will read almost any fiction or interesting sounding biography. I do read some teacher-type books for school, but usually because we have to. This poll is very illuminating and interesting though.

one of the best science fiction books I've ever read is "Do Androids Dream of electric sheep?" by Philip K. Dick. it was later turned into the movie Blade Runner. the last line that Roy Batty says is "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. time to die." it made me think how we have to make our lives matter. it touched me.

also, I like poetry.

I noticed we couldn't vote for more than one. I tend to bounce around from one genre to another; at one point reading more SF&F, then perhaps romance, then maybe suspense, then nonfiction (theology, politics, etc.).

Science Fiction, here. Since that wasn't on the list, I didn't vote.

I like biographies, autobiographies and Court Room Dramas. Not in the selection. Romance sometimes, but they are usually unrealistic. Guess they would be boring if they were like real life! :o)

A good historical fiction piece always gets me - especially anything surrounding WW2.
Memoirs are good too especially if the person has been around the block a few dozen times. Just finished Kristen Chenoweth's.
Fantasy
And then GOOD children's literature. Stuff from Beatrix Potter, AA Milne, Patricia Pollaco, among many others.

Blessings,

Garsy

I like literary fiction, science fiction, history, biography/memoirs, non-fiction, cookbooks, gardening books, epics, and action/adventure.

I don't really like romance (I don't mind romance as a subplot but dedicated romance tend to either make me snort with laughter or get grossed out), otherwise I would have checked 'I like them all.'

My favorites are the classic epic novels, like Shogun, The Count of Monte Cristo, Don Quixote, Frankenstein, Les Miserables, and the like.

I like a lot of fantasy/fiction... I also love mystery. Some sci-fi and only a few romances... ones that have a little action or adventure thrown in. If its too cut and dry a spin on some of the classic princess stories forget it. Sci-Fi can be good at times too. :)

political.... uggh... get enough of that on the news.
