Does anyone know how to make tally marks in a Microsoft Word document? I am using an eMac, if that makes a difference.
Thanks

1. For number 1, type one regular line: |(or /(slash))(usually, Shift+\, key)
2. For number 2, type two lines: ||
3. For number 3, type three lines: |||
4. For number 4, type four lines: ||||
5. For number 5, type backward slash (\)(or (+) or (5)) to indicate five tally marks.
6. A ten would be two fives.

You could insert a graphics of the five characters, appropriately. Word doesn't accommodate tally marks in the usual sense.

Thanks, LCannon.

I ended up using the vertical line (|) character four times with a space in between each one and then using the draw tool to make a diagonal line across the four vertical lines for the 5. I couldn't get it to look right until I put a space in front of the first vertical line though. The 1-4 was easy.

I heard that there is a tally mark font that can be downloaded, but I have to check with tech support before I can do that at work.

Two points here. I was going crazy trying to get my ?+/ key to give me the straight line, when I looked and saw the backslash key would do it when I pressed the shift key also. I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1501, so if you're trying to do this and it isn't working, try the backslash key above Enter.

Second--could you pls explain (5)? I see that some advise d/l a font to get that strike through for the fifth tally mark; another way is simply to draw it in and then copy/paste or use an autocorrect function. What are you saying should be done? If there's an easier way I sure wouldn't mind learning about it!
