Okay...way back when we could record voice on tapes using a good old-fashioned tape recorder. I don't see those around anymore though...and tapes are rare and tape players are almost rare. I am wanting to make a CD for my daughter to listen to...with my voice and some songs that she likes... So, how do I record my voice and burn it to CD? I have Windows Vista if that helps you to know what I have at my disposal...

You grab a free program like Audacity to record your voice and edit your recording.

Yes. Use audacity. You talk/sing into a microphone that you can hook up to your computer (I went to walmart and picked one up for around 10 bucks). Open up Audacity, start the program, then sing. When you are done, you can hit Stop and then save the file.

One caveat--if you do want to save the files as MP3, you will have to (at the audacity site) pick up the LAME (or something like that) package as well--there is a link to it there. If you are ok with .wav files (typical audio files that cd players play) then you don't have to worry about it.

Except you probably want more than a $10 microphone, unless this is just for fun.

I have a Rode VideoMic which is good for a camcorder input. It can be used as input to a computer too but I think there are amplification issues. Costs over $100 but worth it if you record a lot of voice.

Here is a list of USB microphones from Musicians Friend:

There are also USB headset mics. Radio shack carries several.

I have a Logitech and it works well. I do want to get a proper USB mic for recording my guitars etc.

My mp3 player has voice recording capability. If I wanted to do what you're wanting to do, I would record it with the mp3 player and then upload to the computer and burn it to a cd.
