it costs what, $100,000 to make a commercial, asking you for for your money.

they photograph some poor children, or sick people, etc. to jerk on our heartstrings.

why not take that $100k and feed the starving or whatever?? remember those charitable organizations whose leaders turned out to be thieves?

televangelists also -- they stand there in a nice suit & watch, in a fancy set, pleading for money for airtime or whatever...

I believe the TV marathon charities are for real.

I consider them to ultimately be sponsored by the national broadcast company airing them, as a means of being able to express some goodwill as a massive corporation that they are.

I consider the target audience they are seeking to reach and tap is the non-religious TV viewer. What response would be given from such an audience to someone that looked like Jack or Jill Doe? Oh, this is a ploy to take our money for their own benefit. So we have people dress up really nice for such. You have to believe that such charities already consider the religious viewer to already be contributing to their religion and the missions of it.

I don't think you've got a conspiracy in this, but you are right. It sure does strike the wrong way sometimes.

Well first of all, a company or a group could be sponsering the charity. The TV station might also give them a price break. you don't know. Watchdog groups watch the charities, not to mention they are often audited by the government. (There are hundreds of watchdog groups out there. If you google charity watchdog groups, you'll see how many there are out there.) Plus 100 K won't go far to feed all the starving kids out there. Unless you have proof these folks are stealing money, I really don't think you have a leg to stand on.

How dare they use TV to advance a Christian cause. They should remain unknown, relying on junk mail to solicit donations! TV is for mindless drivel not for making a positive difference! It's a conspiracy to make us compassionate!

i don't remember where i saw that. you say u know know of watchdog groups, so you could probably find it quicker than i could.

maybe the watchdogs are getting lots of of steaks thrown to them to keep them from barking.

I remember a few years ago "Feed The Children" were making the news.
Now charitywatch.org gives them an "F".
Larry Jones also gave over $200,000 loan to his son who used it to open some type of country music bar in or around OK City, OK.
I, like the OP have questions as to why spend so much money on infomercials.

interesting. they seemed so real and compassionate, but that's what they're all good at. Steaks all around!

that's lovely, keeping for themselves donations intended for kosovo refugees and tornado victims.

like i said before, people, give your money directly to a poor person.

and the same goes for the "PINK ribbon for breast cancer cure" campaign --

that's the push from many manufacturing companies to get you to buy their products by slaPPING A PINK RIBBON ON THEM, SAYING THAT A PART OF THE PROCEEDS GOES TO BREAST CANCER RESEARCH.

HECK NO to that nonsense. G d has provided heaLING PLANTS AND SUBSTANCES for every need.

"Charity" commercial: Just send us $30 and you can feed a starving baby."

Translation: With a million of you sending us $30 each, the charity's prez can buy another Rolex watch, some snakeskin shoes, and a marble toilet."

Their motto is the same as P. T. Barnum's; "There's a sucker born every minute."
