Does anyone have a SilPat? I love mine but it feels really greasy, all the time. I've tried washing it in the sink of water, and just by squirting Dawn on it, and even tried the dishwasher. I like it a lot, but just don't know how to take care of it. Any suggestions?

That's the silicone baking stuff? I use those professionally. Wash in mild detergent and let air dry. I wouldn't think yours really are greasy. The material has a sort of slick surface. Did they always feel like they do now or is this new?

Well, when I wipe a clean finger on it I can see a smear of grease. I do love the thing, and bought some for baking breads and such. I used the sil pat on a cookie sheet and put chicken on it. It didn't stick and really turned out good but I just can't get it clean. If I scrubbed it with a scour pad would it wreck it?

Kathy, did you use a degreaser? Dawn should do the trick. You know what really works good is that dawn that is in the pump where you wet your sponge and put one pump on to do your dishes. Do you know what I am talking about? That takes grease off of things really good. If you use that and a plastic scouring pad, I am sure that will clean it and not wreck it.

Kath....IME silicone works best for things like desserts and pastries, not meats. If you plan to do lots of meats, etc, I suggest you invest in a stone. I LOVE my two cookie sheet stones from pampered chef....nothing sticks to them after they are seasoned (and it doesn't take much to season them).

I never would have thought to do meat on it. How about, keep that one for meat and get another one for bread/pastry? Did you put Dawn straight onto it? That's what you may have to do. Other than that, I have no idea. I wouldn't use anything but plastic on it. No steel wool, etc.

silpat care instructions HERE quote:
Easy to clean!: Wipe the Silpat® with a damp, soft sponge, then rinse with clean water. Shake to remove excess water and dry in open air. A weak solution of detergent or soap may be used if needed. Note: the oily feeling after washing is normal. Do not!: Do not use scrapers or brushes to clean the Silpat® Do not cut the Silpat® or ON the Silpat® Do not fold the Silpat® Do not grease the Silpat® Caution!: Never use a cut or ripped Silpat® as glass weave could migrate to the food. Please avoid the use of automatic dishwashers, as they may harm the Silpat® bolding is mine. The info is taken from the link above. Hope this helps Kath! =)
