I wish every Christian in the entire world had at least one giant scar, don’t you? A scar is a sign of healing in a wound. Since Christians are usually the spitting image of the walking wounded, it would be a welcome relief. It would be obvious to everyone around them that they were starting to heal. Instead they hide their wounded souls and walk around with a fake smile plastered on their faces, saying, “Bless God, I’m fine”. Gosh, what a clever disguise. I'm sure it fools the devil. When a scar forms on a wound it seals out further infection and allows the wounded area underneath time to recover. The body works in unison to cleanse the infection and rebuild damaged tissue. Without a scar, an open sore continues to fester and allow contamination from without and waste products from within to poison the body. God’s body is very sick in this last hour and in need of much healing. Forgiveness, repentance and confession are like clotting factors that can help seal off an injured soul from further abuse by the enemy of our souls. The trick is; you have to actually acknowledge injury to receive healing. Now, the world with its abhorrence of all things not physically beautiful rejects scars as defects, when they are actually the sign of a healing body or soul. Physical perfection is of little use to God. Scars can also be symbolic of honor. Wounded warriors are held in high esteem. The tortured and suffering Christians of the world will be counted worthy of the highest honor in heaven for not denying the name of the Son. Of course scars are also a sign of love, as in the scars in the hands of our Savior. Won’t you receive His healing today?

If a man walked into your congregation with a huge arterial bleed, spurting out of his neck all over the carpet, would you call EMS or just sit and wonder why he doesn’t go away? After all, he’s ruining a perfectly good carpet. The whole head is sick and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and raw wounds; they are not pressed out or bound up or softened with oil (Isaiah 1:6).

awesome! good thoughts here. but why do most Christians think that Jesus' wounds are scars? he told Thomas to point his finger in his wounds and his hand in his side. clearly the wounds of Jesus are not healed over. they are graphic reminders of his love. Isaiah talks about God having the walls of jerusalem engraved on his hands. engraved doesn't sound like mere scars. i don't like taking away form the drama of God's own woundedness. not that you are trying to do that. Really, look up Jesus' resurrection appearance to thomas in the gospel of John and see what he says about the marks in His hands, feet and side.
