ORIGINAL: 4ChristisLove I heard a sermon the other day on T.V. about a guy who was struggling to give his life to the Lord because he would have to give up his life of immorality. And, then he got deathly sick and couldn't give his life to the Lord on this death bed because he said that something died within him the day (at the church) he rejected the Holy Spirit and chose his immoral life. I've heard that the Holy Spirit will "knock" so many times and if you keep rejecting him then he will leave. I was wondering if there is scripture that backs this up? Thanks! I think this story is someones misconception about the Holy Spirit. The guy's problem is that he never accepted Christ because his heart was never in it. He loves his sins more than his spiritual well being and this leads to death. He was moved emotionally at church to accept Christ but he refused because of his sin nature. The opportunity is still there regardless of any emotion. If he had accepted Christ he would have been born again and the Holy Spirit would have then indwelled him as a believer. There is scripture in Hebrews that talks about falling away but this is about saved Jews wanting to return to the sacrificial system. This guy is not even saved so how can he worry about the Holy Spirit when he hasn't even repented of his sins and turned to Christ. In my opinion the story has no merit. Anyone can be saved at any time no matter what but if their heart is hardened they just won't turn. I would never recommend that anyone wait until their death bed because the day of salvation is right now. What's he waiting for? Proof that he is a sinner bound for hell. Don't play a game of chance with death because the odds are not good you will make it to heaven by waiting for the last breath to accept Christ. Some people mistakenly think that their sin is their happiness and they don't want to give it up. For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth [Ps. 10:1–3]. Now if this guy would look away from sin toward God he would see this: Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins [Ps. 25:18].
