Hey everyone, I certainly wish I was asking a more interesting and fun question, but I am unfortunately not feeling too well lately (as the title of this post probably hints at) and wanted to ask for some feedback (whether public or private...since this is a weird topic).... I have been experiencing some discomfort when urinating and in the general male groin area and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with a UTI? I looked up some symtoms ont eh net and they dont' seem to match exactly what I'm feeling, but there are some similarities. I wasn't going to see the doctor initially, because the symtoms I was having (some swelling and a light "burning" feeling during ...well, you know... ) didn't seem that bad. But then two weeks went by and the symptoms didn't completely go away, though they faded in and out at times...and today it's been the same discomfort. I'm not sure what is going on, but just curious if others may have had UTI and what the common experiences/effects are like..... I've made up my mind to pray about this and then see how I feel on Mon. Then if I don't feel better or get better info, I'll see my doctor (just not happy about that because of my recent string of overdue med bills from other issues - .....see my prayer and praise posts, lol). I'll end things here, but feel free to msg me publicly or privately if you want. I appreciate any help or feedback peoplel can give. Best, -Imit

As a female who has had some UTI's as a child, I know some of the symptoms: burning feeling when urinating, blood in urine, high fever (my fever went up to over 103 degrees one time) and pain in the lower back area near the kidneys. My advice is to see the doctor to rule out UTI right away, as it can damage your kidneys if it's not treated. Most doctor's offices can help you set up a payment plan to cover what insurance won't pay.

I had urinary infection years ago and bought something at the drug store that was made for that. Dont know the name after all these years but it was only a couple of dollars and worked great. You could ask the pharmasist. If nothing else maybe would give you some releif till you see the DR.

However, when your temp elevates past 101 and you develop flank (back) pain, your infection likely has progressed from a less serious lower UTI (Cystitis) to an upper UTI (Pyelonephritis) which involves the kidneys and can be very serious. Moral of the story...Imit, get checked right away. Bacterial infections in this day and age are nothing to mess around with.

Blood in the urine is a symptom??? *shivers* ...Thankfully, I don't have that (yet?)....I would probably have freaked out and gone to the E.R. if I ever saw blood. I guess to be precise...apologies for doing this, ...I have felt a kind of intermittent burning or tingling sensation during urination that mostly occurs at night. This part is weird. It doesn't seem as pronounced during the day or when I wake up - though my sample size of expriences is relatively low around two to three weeks. Even when I am not urinating at times, there seems to be a burning or tingling sensation in the passage way (is that called the uretha?) sometimes. It's not painful per se, but very uncomfortable and annoying. In terms of back pain, I haven't had very high back pain, but I have had mild to minor back pain. Problem is...I have had back injuries before and have always had issues with my back and have worked with physical trainers and therapists to protect that area in working out. I've had various injuries from sports and accidents, so I can't tell if that pain is just the normal pain I've always had or related to an UTI. As for fever, I haven't had one either. Maybe some headaches recently (past week has been filled with headaches), but no noticeable fever. And as for the swelling part.....um.....I guess .....well....just that area (general groin) seems kind of "swollen"? ....Or it could be my imagination. I can't tell, but it seems that way. Not likely grossly swollen, but it just seems like it is slightly. As for any other weird symptoms, no I dn't have any of the ones common for STD, because I checked those IMMEDIATELY to be sure, since I am always weirded out by stories of those. I've been faithful in my faith also, so there would be no reason for me to have one to begin wtih. But just saying.....I don't have any accompanying rashes or weird stuff like that. Mostly just this uncomfortable burning or tingling sensation with some swollenness or soreness of groin area. The main thing is that it's been very slight to moderate. Never bad or painful...just uncomfortable adn up until this week it was intermittent for a cuople weeks. The past few days, however, it has been more constant. I guess I'll have to see my doctor on Monday or Tuesday. I seriously hope that I don't have to do the catheter, because when I had that done after a lower back injury from lifting weights a few years ago, I told myself I never wanted to have one of those done again, lol. They are the worst. In the meantime, do pray for me, because I've had a string of medical problems this entire past year and this latest just makes me more worn down. I've had so many days off of work and just not feeling well that there's just psychollogical stress to from eveything. Thanks for people's comments though. I think hearing everyone say to see a doctor confirms i should do it. Thanks guys!, -Imit

It sounds like a classic UTI to me. I changed to my first name because it was easier to go by. Are you still in Los Angeles? We moved out here two years ago.

But at least I know more closely what I probably have. Will plan on a doctor's visit this week. Oh and no I actually moved from LA in 2002 and have moved around, but am out East now, lol (probably going to move next year again!... to return to graduate school). I miss some parts of LA, but not all. I didn't like how crowded things were (I enjoy a medium sized city, but not big ones), but I liked the conveniences of so many things too. If you are interested in a good church, though, the one I attended for a while called Mosaic http://mosaic.org/ is pretty good (it's actually a famous one). I went to the "downtown" Mayan Theatre services, since there are so many. .......Ok, to change back to my original embarassing UTI post...I woke up late today and once again, I have confirmed that feeling I've had. The weird feelings are not present in the morning and get worse and worse throughout the day and usually the worst at night before bedtime. ....That's weird.

ORIGINAL: ta_mosquito My husband had what he thought was one during university. He drank lots and lots of water, and it eventually went away on its own. I know that they say for females, drinking cranberry juice is helpful. I don't know if it's the same for males. I'm not sure about the swelling, though - that part seems weird to me. I'd ask exactly where the swelling is, but you're a guy and I don't think I REALLY want that much information! drinking lots of water can help but be very careful and ensure that you replace your electrolytes (sodium and potassium) otherwise you can kill yourself. (Speaking from experience-a couple of years ago I was trying to flush out a UTI and didn't replace any electrolytes consequently I had several seizures and ended up in ICU-so be very careful, most people don't know that it can kill yourself by drinking too much water) cranberry tablets can help depending on what type of infection you have. the cranberry contains a sugar called de-mannose which prevents the bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall. If you do take cranberry tablets make sure you take a large dose. Parsley tea can also help. Also apple cider vinegar in water. Garlic is also a good antibacterial. Another trick to use is to take a large dose of vitamin C and then about an hour later take some sort of alkaline substance (alkaseltza, bicarbonate soda)-this confuses the bacteria. And lastly stay away from sugar! It feeds the bacteria. I'm disabled and had many years of experience with bladder infections-home remedies can help but not always which as it happens is my current experience and I am on a course of antibiotics for a UTI . If you do take antibiotics make sure once the course is finished to take some acidophilus, either as you yoghurt or tablets.

Oh man...I did buy those cranberry pills (to avoid the hgh sugar of cranberry juice), but being a victim of temptation, I devoured a large box of chocolate covered raisins given to me as a gift. I bet those raisins had more sugar than the juice. As for a doctor's update....My doctor PRAISE GOD did not ask for a urinary catheter. I have been through a decent amount of physical pain in my life from various sports injuries (was bed-ridden for 3 months once from injury), but the urinary catheter has to be one of my most feared discomforts. ...After what seemed to be a hastey exam, the doctor diagnosed me with possible bacterial or yeast infection, although he said it was unlikely. I was told that upon a physical exam and based on my symptoms that I did not have any infections or whatever. He said that sometimes if you use certain soaps that it can travel into your urinary tract area and cause severe discomfort...Also, if you have sweat it can cause a yeast infection. However, he said based on looking at me, he didn't think I had any of that. He said he didn't konw what I had and gave me 3 750MG Levaquin tablets as a precaution. Told me to take them once a day for 3 days and that those should flush out any potential bacteria, STD, fungal, etc. stuff that could be there. His genreal opinion was that nothing I said or had physically (no symptoms) fit a profile of anything and that perhaps I had soething else going on structurally which would require a urologist to do an ultrasound of the groin area. So basically, I need to see my urologist. I've taken the 3 Levaquin, but I'm not sure I feel 100% normal. I still feel like there is something tingly or weird going on in that urinary tract area. It has improved actually the past couple of days, but doesn't seem completely right. I'm kid of clueless myself, because I'm not familiar with any stuff like this. I have had pain in that area before, but it was different. That was more like pain pain...needed to be taken care ofd idfferently. This feels more like discomfort. Also, my doctor didn't do a urinary sample analyis. He said they were closing shop and I was the last customer/patient and if I could not provide one in time, that they'd not be able to wait for me. I guess that would have helped. Please continue to pray for me. I hope those Levaquins got rid of anything potentially there. As for the remianing minor discomfort, I'll have to see a urologist.

Hey, doing somewhat better after my 3 Levaquin actually....I'm still having other issues, but overall, it seems I'm doing better with that problem.
