I've noticed some people have various colors and fonts and smilies in their signature lines. In the section of my profile for entering a signature line, I see nothing that gives you these choices. How do I get these?

I noticed that there is a little box on the top of the space, labeled "PGD Code";is this where these things are available? Whenever I click on this button, I get some kind of run-time error.

You have to find the codes for the color and type those in. It's the same if you want to center, italics, bold, etc in your signature. Find a color that you like and type in the code in [ ] then at the end of your signature type [ / color ] (no spaces).

An easy way to create an html signature is to type it in a posting window and then cut and paste it into the signature window in your profile.

An easier way to do this is to go into a test post in the testing forum, post your signature with all the bells and whistles the way you want it, then click on "edit," copy the post with all the code, and paste it into your signature.

Beware: There is a limited number of characters allowed in your sig. These include all the characters used in the formatting codes. So you can't get TOO long or elaborate.

Oh ye of little investigative desire!

PGD Codes are designed to provide simple and effective formatting methods in a post. There are 16 pre-defined codes, so you don't really have to type the codes yourself. You can also format a text block by first highlight a text block and hit the PGDCode button. Detailed descriptions for all available PGDcodes can be found by clicking on the "?" link.

Basically, you've got HTML which makes colors, italics, etc. on web pages. On the forums here, our format system is called PGD Codes instead of HTML.

That wasn't so hard to understand! I figured if I looked it up on the net my eyes would glaze over with incomprehension.

Of course, that's of little use if I keep getting some kind of screwy error message. I think I'll try what you suggested in your earlier post.
