I love Heroes but was rather bothered by something in the first episode of Season 3.

At the end of Season 3 episode one entitled "The Second Coming" Mohinder quotes a rather distrubing poem (called The Second Coming) I thought it is either completely blasphemous toward Jesus or taking about the Anti-Christ. I was wondering what you guys thought of it.

"Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"

It's not a recent poem...it was written by William Bulter Yeats sometime around 1920

The Wikipedia entry notes that this poem was also referenced in the TV series Angel, Andromeda, Star Trek: Deep Space 9, and Babylon 5; referred to in Stephen King's novel The Stand; a Joni Mitchel song; and even a Peanuts comic.

Yeah I know :) but I didn't find a Christian view of this poem.
Wanted to see what other Christians say as there is some controversy around it. I see this as either a direct attack on Christianity or completely describing the awaiting Anti-Christ.

I interpret it as the anti-Christ, more speculation that something may be anti-Christ in it's nature. Heroes plays a lot with the consequences of the superpowers and the often disastrous results when one trys to play god (although it's not put that way usually on the show). Citing this poem may have directly been in reference to Moheinder's playing god with the superpower serum (a storyline that is shaping up to be a cross between Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde and The Fly). However, there's also Hiro accidentally allowing the formula that his father had to get into the wrong hands; Peter's going back in time to try and "fix things" which is only resulting in new problems, Claire's feelings of no longer being human, and Nathan's decision to become a man of political power (accepting to take over a senate seat from someone who died).

Wow that is a really good insight on that. I can definitely corlate it with Mohinder's "playing god". The theme of the show is heroes become villans and villans become heroes.

We know the second coming is around the corner becasue christ is coming back and also the anti-christ will appear. The only thing that gets me is biblically the only thing "born" in bethlehm is Jesus. Now if there is going to be a big deception, the aboination of desolation will be a counterfit Christ born in bethleham; hence maybe the allusion to "bethleham"
What do you think?
