Hey everybody,

Well I have been having period problems and I am not so sure what's going on.
I am 18 yrs old, about to turn 19 and ever since I was 11 yrs old, I always have had my period regularly on a 28 day cycle.

Well on September 25, 2008, I didn't get my period and I was suppose to. I got it about 3 weeks later on October 12 2008. I got it later than usual because I was going through a stressful time.
Then for this month, I got my period on November 11.

But then all of a sudden, I got my period today which is 2 weeks earlier than I am suppose to get it. I do feel bloated and I had a bit of a feeling of mentrual cramps.
However, for this period ... the blood is coming out liquidy instead of bits than it usually does.

I am extremely scared because this is really abnormal for me.
I don't know if I should just visit my doctor or if I should go to a gynecologist which would be my first time.

What should I do ladies?
I am terrified and don't know what to do.
Please, any help would be appreciated.

Firstly, don't panic.

Secondly, if there's any chance you could be pregnant, you need to see a doctor. Please don't be offended at my saying that ~ I'm not accusing you of anything, just stating facts.

Thirdly ~ you were stressed in September and this could be caused by that. While you may not be under the same stress, it sometimes takes our bodies longer to recover.

I think if it would ease your mind to go to the doctor now, you should do so. If you have a GP that you know and feel comfortable with, I'd suggest you start there rather than trying to find a gynaecologist right now.

OK, first things first...take a deep breath and let it out nice and slow! This is something to be concerned about, but not to panic about.

There are many, many things that can throw off your cycle. Changes in your diet or exercise routines, stress, weight gain or loss, medications, or illnesses can easily cause the symptoms you have been describing. There are also a number of medical conditions, most of which are not immediately life threatening, so this is something you need to have a doctor check out. Just call your regular doctor and set up an appointment for the closest convenient time. When you see him/her, be very honest about what is going on in your life right now, how you've been taking care of yourself, and any medications or supplements you've been taking. If you have been sexually active at any time, now or in the past, you need to be honest about that too. If you start bleeding very heavily (like soaking a pad or tampon every hour or two) or you have extreme cramps, or develop a fever, call the doctor and try to get in quickly.

But, I repeat, there are lots of perfectly normal, non-life-threatening things that can throw your body off like this. You are likely going to be just fine. You just need to get it checked out in a timely manner.

Let us know how things turn out.

I would go see your doctor. It may be absolutely nothing. It could be something that is easily dealth with.

Lots of us have issues with our periods. I had a normal 28 day cycle since the day I got my period (even came at the same time of day.) Then I went on the pill and my period came every 2 weeks. Or for a full month if it felt like it. Even after I went off the pill, it didn't go back to it's normal 28 day cycle, and it came at different times of day.

I had a friend who didn't get hers for 6 months straight. No pregnancy, and no other issues the doctor could find. It came back eventually and everything went back to normal for her.

Thank you ladies.

You guys were right for telling me to calm down and I apologize for me freaking out lol

Well I went to the doctor yesterday and it turns out that it was a blown-out uti.
booooo.
This is my 4th uti in one single year! I'm gettin annoyed.
I guess that's what I get for not drinkin 8 glasses of water a day
But the doctor told me to drink lots of water and gave me some antibiotics.
Thank you ladies for your responses and time.

God bless!

Love2play,

I also get a lot of UTI's. One thing I have learned recently is to take a vitamin c tablet before you go to bed. A lot of UTI's can happen because your bladder isn't emptied at night, and the vitamin c can help ward off the bacteria through the night.

I think Cranberry juice helps. I can usually tell if one is coming on and if I drink Cranberry juice like its going out of style it usually gets better. My MIL swears by the Cranberry tablets, but I like juice so I just drink it (MIL cant stand CB juice).

I'm the same as Erin, when i can feel one coming one, I'll drink lots and lots of cranberry juice in one sitting. A couple of times, I've been able to ward off having to go to the doctor.

I've never tried cranberry tablets, the one thing I have heard (and someone can correct me) is that with them, you have to take a certain amount and you have to take them every day for them to work.

I don't care for the juice, and I've only had this particular issue once or twice... so I don't have a lot of experience.

I just followed the instructions on the box, and felt tons and tons better within a couple of days, and have never had to go to a doctor about it. Although, be warned that it will stain your panties a bright orange-ish color, so just keep that in mind. (atleast, if I remember correctly it does that)

Cranberry juice can help ~ just be careful to get the stuff that doesn't have added sugar or sweetener!

LOL...once I sent my husband to buy some for me, and I told him it can't have added sugar or sweetner, and it needs to be straight cranberry, no blends. Poor guy was walking down the juice aisle on his cell phone picking up bottles and reading ingredients into the phone. And every bottle I made him put back. He just looked at me like I was crazy when he finally came home with one and said "women."

If you weren't in Toronto, I could have sworn that I'd been the same aisle as your dh! I don't much like cranberry juice, but if I do have it, I'll get the unconcentrated stuff from the chiller cabinets ~ because it saves me looking at every label!

Too funny! What else is funny, the next day I went to the same store and found exactly what I needed right away (when my husband had to leave that one and go to another one because they didn't have what I wanted.) Gotta love husbands!

I am not a big fan of cranberry juice, but I do regularly take cranberry tabs, and I don't get UTI nearly as much as I use to, they don't seem to help much when I actually have a UTI though, it just really helps me prevent them.

It can't be cranberry cocktail right?
IT has to be 100% juice blend right?
and man, I am finding it difficult to drink 8 glasses of water per day
I have to go to the washroom 2-3 per hour whenever I drank a glass or two ...

I was used to 2-4 glasses of water per day, but the doc told me that uti's are gonna be coming for me if I don't drink 8 glasses of water per day

that depends on how big your glasses of water are.... and what else you are drinking.

If you only ever consume water, and you were only drinking 2-4 6-8oz glasses a day, you were seriously short changing your body in terms of water.

Some people think that you should be drinking about half your body weight in ounces of water per day, and only ever drink water. For example, a 100 pound person would drink 50 oz of water per day. I personally find it very difficult to maintain that level of drinking. I consider it a good day when I drink about 60 ounces a day, and I weigh more than 120 pounds. =)

What do you mean by 'juice blend'? Some juices (like citrus) can aggrivate conditions.

I've heard this in forums before and questioned it. It was eventually admitted that there is a maximum amount of water that you should drink. I aim for about 70 oz a day though I struggle sometimes and will then add freshly squeezed juice to the water which helps.

I've always found it excessive as well. Although I struggle with drinking enough liquids a day. I kept track for a while, because one day I realized that I'd only had about 14oz of liquid total for the day. I didn't feel so great, but I can easily forget to drink... which is BAD! So, I encourage people to drink more... but if you are already drinking other liquids, it's not necessarily that you need to have an additional 6-8 glasses of water. You need to have that much fluid per day... juice has water in it, as does tea, soda, etc...

I have always struggled with drinking a lot of water, so I finally started watering down my juice. Doesn't always taste that great, but if it gets me drinking more. It did eventually lead me into drinking more water on it's own, so if that needs to be done to get you started drinking more water, it doesn't hurt at all.

Pumpkin: really? half your body weight? I never heard of that. Well I was drinkin 2-4 glasses of water per day plus 2 or more cups of tea per day and maybe just one diet beverage for dinner, so I don't think my body was in water shortage haha.

But I don't know, I was researching online and it said that tea, coffee and other beverages are not considered as part of 8 glasses of water a day. So I don't know. I was gonna ask the doc, but it slipped my mind.

agapetos: what I mean by juice blend, I guess means from concentrate? like there's no sugar added or any artificial stuff you know?

lexie: yeah I do that somtimes lexie. I mix my water or even club soda with juice or soda. It doesn't really taste great, but it gives the drink flavour.

Well right now, I am drinkin 8 glasses of water per day plus other beverages such as tea.
I am gettin used to drinkin this much, but I just hate the bathrooms breaks every hours or so hahaha. I jsuth ope I keep this up ...

Ok. Thanks for explaining. I prefer the fresh though as it's had less done to it!

I think there are divisions as to what counts and what doesn't. What you have to remember is to look at what is in whatever you're drinking ~ caffeine, sweetners, sugar, fat (if you add milk or cream to tea and coffee or have milky drinks) ~ and consider whether it's really a good idea to be drinking as much of whatever as you are.

I think that depends on who you ask. I've seen some health professionals say as long as you get the same amount of fluids, it's fine. I hear others say it has to be straight up water.

This is what my urologist says..lol....to prevent most UTI's and Kidney stones, drink at LEAST 1 liter of WATER a day and at LEAST 1 liter of OTHER liquid, which can be more water, juice, milk, lemonade, limeade, but NOT soda/soft drinks, alcohol, coffee or tea..not that you can't drink them...but not to count them into your liquid intake. That is the minimum. If you can drink more, fine...if not..it's okay...but at least 1 liter of it should be pure water (that is about 3 8 oz glasses of water).

He says that the half your body weight is a good goal...but that it is easier for people to be consistant with the 1liter water/1 liter liquid system and that staying consistantly hydrated is what is important.
