Hi, I'm a near empty nester that took in two foster babies with the intent to adopt them. We've only had the sister, 1 year & 10 months, for 2 weeks and a few days while brother, 7 months, has been with us for 4 months. This week was especially difficult. Sister arrived from the children's shelter with a severe case of head lice. It was treated when she arrived and ran it's 10 coarse with a vengence. This new mommy was beside herself with vaseline, baby oil and finally getting the greasy out with corn starch. Yesterday, I was having such a bad day that I wished that I could take her back. I'm so glad for God's grace, for it is sufficient. There is a very helpful babysight called babycenter that helps you check on average the growth of babies and toddlers. This morning I decided to check it out for baby Rebeka and I not only feel so blessed but relieved that I didn't nor couldn't return her. She's an amazing little girl! For all the neglect and trauma that she's gone through she is really quite normal! The problem wasn't Rebeka being a brat but mommy not understanding Rebeka. I need to read her ques: When is she tired, hungry, what does she need? Does she need to play or really need affection? The site explained that at her age, she'll vasilate from wanting us to pushing us away; a part of the process of a 23 month old growing up. I can't tell you how relieved I am that she wasn't really rejecting me. This has been the best day with our new daughter. She's not behind in her language or motor skills. I'm just amazed that God would give us such a wonderful daughter and especially glad that I couldn't and didn't give her back! I was also pleasantly surprised that my husband and I are pretty good parents:D We'd already boughten her a toddler bed, which is recommended for her age. I thank God for His mercy and grace. Aren't you glad that when we're having a bad day, even though He may wish He could give us away (He just about did that with His people Isreal and Moses talked Him out of it) that God is patient with us! Anyone else need a little encouragement with toddlers?

ORIGINAL: funny_girl Anyone else need a little encouragement with toddlers? I do! Not so much with the parenting issues but, all the sacrfices we do for our little ones. I am currently writing a letter rejecting a promotion due to wanting to keep things less stressful so I can focus on being a mom and so both of us can enjoy these toddler years. I am going to really disappoint my boss and feel guitly about it.

There's no greater joy than motherhood. Please don't feel guilty for choosing what's best for your family.

Both of you are to be commended for the sacrifice and love you are giving to your children. The investment you are making in the young lives of your kids can have eternal consequences. Funny girl, imagine what rebeka and her brother's life would have been like without you and your husband. I am sure not a pretty picture. And Silmon 11, your kids aren't going to remember that mom was wonderful at her job and got lots of promotions, but that mom was there when they needed her, mom's love is the best treasure you can ever give your kids. I believe God will bless you both for the choices you are making right now. Blessings an grace to you both, Kim Q

Thanks for your encouragement. I'm reminded again that if we aren't getting the response we are looking for than, what we're doing isn't working and we need to change our approach to get the right response. I'd naturally want to overreact and yell at the poor little girl, but quickly realized this made her cry and frustrated me more. Now, we just correct her in a sweet tone and she's quick to respond correctly. We're also reading her cues for naps. I guess I just needed to give us a chance to get acquainted.

Thank you all for your kind words. I do feel like I made the right decision. Yes, I am with all you with the behaviors that you are really hoping are not a part of their personality, just a toddler thing.
