She was such a horrible choice for the party... After claiming she was against the Bridge To Nowhere it came out that she actually supported it when it benefitted her. Now so much more is coming out about her. "Palin Billed State for Nights at Home!" Gov. Sarah Palin billed the state of Alaska for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months as governor according to a story in the Washington Post. This allowance is intended to cover the governor's expenses when she is away from her office on state business. She also billed to take her children on official state trips and her husband also billed when he went along on these trips (presumably from Juneau, the state capital, to Wasilla, where the Palins live). The legality of this billing aside, a candidate who is strongly against government waste may have some explaining to do. If Palin went alone and spent the night in, say, Fairbanks to confer with the mayor, no questions would have been raised, but billing the taxpayers to stay in your own home probably qualifies as waste, even if it is legal (which is far from clear). Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) also spends a lot of time in his Los Angeles home, but he doesn't bill the state for it. Palin's position on "the bridge to nowhere" (initially for it but later against it) is also in the news. As the press begins digging deeper into Palin's past, more of this stuff may come out. This is the downside of putting a former unknown governor in the national spotlight. In contrast, Joe Biden has been around so long that all the dirt on him is already well known and not newsworthy.

Did you read the whole story ... or just the headline? She has not spent nearly the same amount as she is allowed ... The costs were for travel back and forth to her home 600 miles away. The cost covered her and her family because the family was expected for many of the events. From the article (source MSNBC which has a tendency to slant left) "Speaking from Palin's Anchorage office, Leighow said that Palin dealt with the plane and also trimmed other expenses, including foregoing a chef in the governor's mansion because she preferred to cook for her family. The first family's travel is an expected part of the job, she said. "As a matter of protocol, the governor and the first family are expected to attend community events across the state," she said. "It's absolutely reasonable that the first family participates in community events." " Here's the story.

Another excerpt from the article sited in post two ... "Gov. Palin has spent far less on her personal travel than her predecessor: $93,000 on airfare in 2007, compared with $463,000 spent the year before by her predecessor, Frank Murkowski. He traveled often in an executive jet that Palin called an extravagance during her campaign. She sold it after she was sworn into office." Be careful when reading a headline ... they are often misleading.

My first thought when I saw the label on the post was "I thought candidates knew better than to judge chili contests." I'm in a weird mood today. That said... I'm never really sure what liberals want conservative women in office to do. If they have a family, then they must not be taking good enough care of their family. But if they try to take care of their family by bringing their family with them or traveling to see their family, then they're not being fiscally responsible. Can we pick one?

It just opened the door to scrutinize all of the piggies in public service expense accounts and per diem records.

THIS IS HOW BAD DEMOCRATS FEAR PALIN/.. the uh er ....bad choice for VP lol When was politics ever like this?? Come to think of it, I guess it's been this way since Al Gore set the precedent back in the 2000 elections when he fought to keep military absentee ballots from being counted.

Like his billing the government for his Acela trips back and forth to Wilmington, DE is any different? Let's see... the article states that she recieved $16,951. Biden, if he doesn't have a 'sweetheart' deal with Amtrak, which he may oversee from time to time, pays $250.00 every day. that is $1,250 per week. So, he easily eclipses that amount of just 15 weeks of traveling home! And, he's been doing it for years! Oh! did we mention that Biden's son is a lobbyist for Amtrak? And, that Biden treats his son's company very, very well? The Democrats never seem to learn that they should not point to others when their own sins are so blatantly In case you are intereted here is a link... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/01/AR2008090102391.html

If the choice is backfiring, how do you explain the fact that Obama and McCain are now even, when Obama was 6 points ahead a few days ago?

Actually the last realclearpolitics.com average of polls seems tohave McCain up three points, 48 - 45. And his favorable rating have improved considerably. If this is backfiring, I hope it continues!

I have to say though, I am amazed how many rumors there are out there about Palin; saw one website that had debunked or dealt with over 50 of them. Obama can no longer complain about being treated 'unfairly'.

Palin backfiring? Is that supposed to be a joke? To say she has been a shot in the arm for McCain and the Republicans is an understatement. At this point it looks as though she will boost McCain into the White House.

***Incoming Message from the Big Giant Head *** http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/Obama_Lipstick_on_a_pig.html quote:
Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra. "You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig." "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink." So Governor Palin is now a pig, and Senator McCain is a stinky old fish? What's next? "Your mom" jokes? In light of this and other glimpses of insanity I've witnessed from the left over the past 11 days, I'd say that Senator McCain's choice is working quite swimmingly at the moment. NiceGuy

I frequent several fora and there seems to be a movement afoot where "new members" come on board and say things like "Palin is backfiring" or "Palin is a racist" or "Palin is really a tax and spender" or "Palin had a space alien baby." All the while they try to give the appearance of being a Republican or conservative or Christian. I think the hatred and fear of her is so virulent, the leftists may be logging on to forum they would never frequent otherwise in a desperate attempt to discredit her. It's what Limbaugh and others call "seminar callers" ore in this case, "seminar posters" Be alert, that kind of stuff goes on all the time. Maybe rageofcreation isn't one of those, but my radar screen sure is beeping after reading that post. Hey has anyone here had the thought cross their mind: "Palin is sort of like Deborah in the book of Judges?"

Man, the ignorance and hatred here is astounding. I am a believer of nearly 3 decades and it still amazes me how any true Christian can vote for people like John McCain and Sarah Palin. I will leave you folks to enjoy your little club here. Thanks for the warm welcome.
