My husband is perfectly capable of fixing just about anything around the house. I appreciate that about him. However, he simply does not have the time. He has to put a lot of hours in for work right now. Our hot water heater has not been working for about 3 weeks. It produces lukewarm water once in a while, but for the most part...only cold. The problem is a relatively minor repair. It's just a matter of getting the replacement part and installing. That's what he told me. I am tired of waiting for him to do the repair. Would it be disrespectful of me to suggest that I just have my dad come over and help me fix it?

I don't know that it would be disrespetfull for you to ask, but if he refuses and you do it anyway, yes that might be percieved as disrespectful. Otherwise, I'm not a home repair do-it-yourselfer, for the most part any way, whilst I can and will do somethings, plumbing and I are enemies of the deepest sentiment, so if'n you was my wife, we'd call a professional!

Why don't you suggest going out for supper one night, that you'll do the driving, and while you're out, let's get that part for the water heater so the two of you could install that afterwards? Really put down your foot, that you really Enjoy a warm shower, that you neeeeeeed hot water for the washing machine. That you don't want to have to bathe over at mom & dad's to be comfortable. If it's just the heating element, which sounds like it is, I see no problem or disrespect with having your Dad to the repair. If your husband is that busy, I'd think he'd appreciate a little help and a hot shower for once. It's a simple repair, but will require getting the make & model, then a trip to the parts house, and a trip back to do the repair. You are talking a minimum of 2 hours in my area, and I would have to charge you at least $180, if not $250, for sending one of my guys out.
