Last week, Nova ran an episode called Mystery of the Megaflood about scientific study over the last century into the events that formed the Channeled Scablands in eastern Washington state. It was a pretty interesting episode that can be related to a lot of the discussions that go on in here, particularly surrounding Noah's Flood. A lot of issues were touched on including challenging current scientific consensus and the comparison of evidence for catastrophic events against the evidence for slow processes. Those who accept the standard YEC position that the Grand Canyon was formed quickly would do well to watch this show and see what constitutes evidence for rapid water movement. There's even a bit at the end about sediment deposition and the existence of a layer of volcanic ash in the middle of a bunch of flood-laid mud. -Dan.

[Reply to Message] One of the more interesting features of the scablands, IMO, was the large rippled dunes left behind. When you go to the beach, the waves cause the sand to form a rippled pattern - the scablands have these ripples, only they're 20-30' high and a couple hundreed feet apart. The PBS interactive site has one picture of these (#4, IIRC), but the show had much clearer visuals (of all the features, really). -Dan.
