Hubby says we will never again own an Epson, so that's out of the running right off. I need a good, reliable printer that will print photo quality on regular paper (so I can make wall hangings like pictured in my avatar). Need something not terribly expensive to purchase and maintain. So, who has a great printer? Tell me what to look for!

I supply printers so if you are in England i could give you the name of the company i work for. Does it need to be a laser or inkjet? HP and the Canon pixma are normally good printers. The price difference between a mono laser and inkjet is quite significant. Epsons are good by the way it is proberly because of the pictures you are printing off, have you tried putting a high capacity ink cartridge in the printer? Also the paper you use can have an effect on the printing i can reccomend using a 100-120gm paper, if you need good paper xerox is normally good as well as effecto. Hope this helps

I have always had good luck and long life with Epsons. (Going back to my 9-pin dot matrix......) Yea-I know...I'm dating myself..... (I really thought I hit the big leagues when I got a 24pin LETTER QUALITY dot matrix......LOL!)

I've had my HP 720C(inkjet)for about 15 years and it's still chuggin' away. I had one of the feed roller bearings replaced but other then that it's been trouble free. The ink cartridges are spend-ie(and getting spend-ier; printer manufacturers make money on the 'consumables' not the printer itself)but they last(for me)a long time. I wouldn't hesitate to go with another one plus I have stock in HP!

(sorry I know this doesn't help the OP though)

the problem with the inket printers is that once you use the cartridge, it usually costs just as much to get the new cartirdges as it does to get a new printer. I have always liked the HP PHOTOSMART printers, the epson photo printers. problem is the ink is so expensive. I think HP is the more reliable printer, and Epson does a little bit better job on the print quality, but that is only my opinion.

I would also never have another epson, not even good enough to use as a boat anchor. I really like my HP 2600n color laser. BUT - don't get this one if you are using an x64 os like XP Pro 64 or the 64 bit version of Vista. There are no drivers for it.

If you have a costo/sams club membership then you get a bulk pack of inkjet cartridges. Many people won't print enough for home use to justify a color laser printer. To refill all four color toners will cause over 300.00, but they will last a long time.

I would go with a color laser. Maybe a Lexmark brand. They cost more out of pocket, but the toners last much longer than the inkjet cartridges and you can not beat the speed and quality.
