The website is being revamped and will be back up October 1, according to the email I got. If you haven't taken part before, that's the soonest you can sign up. If you have taken part before, that's the day you can update your profile and all that stuff.

I can't wait!!!

I did NaNoWriMo the last two years and loved it. I wish I could say I'd be participating again this year, but with a baby due the first week in December, I think I'd better sit this one out Best of luck to all who take part!!!

i knew november was coming up fast. i have been trying not to think about nano. i have no idea what i will write about this time, but i most likely will put some drivel out.

it has become my november habit. i have written some really awful terrible stuff, so why should this november be any different?

I have done it two years in a row and this year I am giving it a go as well. This time around I will write an alternative version of the novel I am working on, the main characters are turned into hitmen and the story revolves around their interaction. Oddly enough my nano productions are very often considerably superior to my other writings.

I just tried to log in to the site and an error message came up that said the site was overloaded and I'd have to try later. I just discovered it recently, but I guess it's pretty popular, huh?

I tried to writemo a year ago, but never completed my story. I'm thinking of doing it again with the same story. I lost that story when my computer crashed. :((( i figure it's only a month, I can do it. :)

The servers went down, so last I heard they were working to get them back up. They're putting updates on Facebook.

I'm going to do it this year. Do you guys start nanowrimo threads or anything - maybe we can support one another?

Cool! Yes...a support thread is good, you could always start one up on the NaNo groups section of their forums too. (Please note, the NaNo forums are fabulously addicting... )

This will be my 4th year with NaNo and I am SO ready for it. It will be my first year cramming it in with school though..eck. All the college profs do get together and plan all the midterms at the same time....LOL!

Anyone want to add me, I'm on there as Scarletfury
and my novel's currently tentatively title as "Mind over Memory" so that should help you know if you found the right me.

I'm going to do it this year. Yay!

Last year I didn't get much written, but it was a fun impetus to begin writing a novel, which isn't my usual form (being more bent toward writing poetry).

I've already got a nugget of a story idea, so I'm going to spend October preparing the character sketches and the bones of the story. Then November shall be the writing frenzy!

Looking forward to this journey with y'all!!!

I'm looking forward to NaNo, too. I did it last year for the first time and got a pretty decent novel out of it. This year, other than one screenplay, I haven't been finishing too much of anything. NaNo will get me moving again. I can't wait!

Two developments:

1) I bought a NaNoWriMo shirt and it came in the mail yesterday. Yay!

2) I accidentally washed the USB drive that has my novel from last year and my writing software on it. Boo!

I managed to find the drive before it got heated up in the dryer. And I was able to move all the files from it onto my desktop. I don't think the drive was damaged, but there were some moments of panic last night, let me tell you!

Yay!!! I'm sooo excited!

I registered a week or two ago - I'm using the same screen name there as here - rgod. So please add me to your groups - if you want to!

stellaluna - I'm glad you didn't lose your files. I'm so thankful for USB drives; remember the old floppies? 5 1/4 or 3 1/2? I remember having to spread out information across disks, then losing the first one and not being able to retrieve data. I hated it!

writerchick - did you do it by yourself or with a group last year? Did you end up editing your novel when you were done?

So, would you guys like to do a thread here or there? Or both places? I'd love to connect there with anyone here - I think there is a groups feature if I remember correctly. ScarletFury, I'll definitely connect with you.

By the way, there is a story thread in the Humor and Games folder called "Cliffhanger" - feel free to add if you want to contribute to the saga ...

I did it by myself. But I joined the website writing.com and got feedback on the novel. I revised it in January and sent it out in February. A publisher bought it Monday before last! I'll be returning the signed contract in a few days.

Sorry to hear about the drive. I'm glad you were able to retrieve those files. I know how scary that is. I used to write everything longhand. My apartment burning down cured me of that habit. Have you thought about e-mailing your work to yourself? Yahoo and Gmail have free accounts that have tons of storage.

I actually have a copy of it somewhere, but we have two laptops and a desktop and I was too panicked to try to find it.

i am toying with the idea of NOT trying to figure out a topic until november 1st. that will be a new thing for me.

I've been going to the website everyday. The people in the San Fran office are so clever I always find something to amuse myself with.

I'm doing just the opposite. I won't finish if I don't know the story beforehand. I was very excited to finally break my story yesterday. My goal is to write a decent first draft. I'm going to be posting it in a writer's workshop for feedback as I go. I'll revise in Jan. with the intention of submitting it in Feb.

Until this contest - I also do their screenplay version - I would write by the seat of my pants. I have a ton of unfinished work for my trouble, too. But with the quick deadline, I found that I have to have some type of direction going in.

Okay, for anyone who hasn't logged in yet this year or signed up, you'll probably want to do it tomorrow. The first few days of NaNoWriMo are insanely crazy on their site and it can be really hard to get in. Also, there is a Facebook app that will keep track of your wordcount and it's up and ready to go.
