Ok I am new to the forums and I am seeking advice from parents, friends, loveones who may be currently dealing with children who are homosexual. I am currently in this situation so please understand I am not saying that other people may not have great advice to offer however, I am really just interested in responses from individuals who have been delivered from that lifestyle or people who have ministered in that area. Thanks Boz

I have a cousin that is homosexual. He grew up in a Christian home like the rest of our extended family, and his decision to go into this lifestyle was upsetting to everyone. Most of the family shunned him, but his parents continued to love him and accept him in spite of the fact that they didn't agree with what he was doing. He apparently found a church that "allows" this type of lifestyle and doesn't consider it a sin. (I don't know how they get around that one.) Anyway, his parents have actually gone to his church and seem to feel that it is better than nothing and continue to treat their son and his lover the same as they treat and accept the rest of their children. They now believe that their son has some kind of genetic flaw and can't help the way that he is. I can't say that I agree with their thinking, but love and acceptance is how they decided to deal with it. They keep their homosexual son in their life and continue to minister to him as they always have.

I don't have an answer for you, but something to keep in mind is that while it is ultimately a choice to act on these feelings, there is still a lot we don't know about the human brain and there could be any number of reasons why a person has these sort of inclinations. Some could be chemical, some could be environmental, some could be.... who knows. Also, despite all the media attention it's received from both sides, homosexuality is no better or worse than any other sin. While your child may struggle with homosexuality, another may struggle with greed, or anger, or selfishness, or addiction, or any number of other things that afflict people. They're all sins, but they don't all get the same hype. -Dan.

If you want my post removed, that is fine, because I don't have any homosexual family members that I know of. We are in ministry, and one thing we do is educate people. There is a very well made DVD out there, called "It's not Gay", it has former homosexuals that came out of the lifestyle and it is very informative of the physical/health issues, emotional, and everything else. I would recommend you to watch it, it might help you have a better understanding of some things and help you to minister to your child. It is put out by American Family Association.

He grew up in a Christian home like the rest of our extended family, and his decision to go into this lifestyle was upsetting to everyone. how much of it was really HIS "decision"??? can anyone REALLY say that it's a "choice"? hardly. yes...things would be so much better if that cousin would just find someone of the opposite sex to have a relationship with...enter into a 'sham marriage' and just PRETEND that he's "just like everyone else"....just like everyone did in the "good old days"....and, live a lie. I, too, have seen a few people who were supposedly "delivered" from that lifestyle.....and, something just wasn't "right" about how they were afterwards....it's almost as if they just "gave in" to play along....because "acting straight" and being the person everyone else "expects" you to be was just easier than being themselves....so, to be "accepted" they say and do "all the right things", as they are more "accepted" by those all around them....but, it's all just an act. we all have in our family the "weird" uncle who never married....or the "old maid" aunt that never married, as well. One has to wonder what was really going on in THEIR lives.....Secrets and deception go a long way in "keeping the peace" and giving the appearance of a big, happy family.

Admittedly, I haven't seen the video, but I wouldn't trust the American Family Association on anything related to homosexuality. They're partly responsible for all of the fear and hype around the "homosexual movement." -Dan.
