Have you watched season 1? Going to watch season 2? Have you read the books? What do you think about the differences between the books and the TV series?

I only have time for a brief answer, but that answer is: yes, I watched season 1 and highly enjoyed it. The cinematography is gorgeous, the special effects are very well done, the acting is decent, and the stories are interesting. I read the first 3 books years ago when they came out, but didn't particularly care for the writing after a while. I remember enjoying the 1st book, Wizard's First Rule quite a bit, and still quote the 1st rule to people sometimes (Wizard's first rule: people are stupid and willfully deceived). I don't remember enough to compare the TV series to the books. Looking forward to the second season, though slightly less than I am looking forward to the next season of Merlin.

I only recently stumbled on this show, but I REALLY like it. I haven't read the books, so I can't compare, but I got inspired to (someday) read the books after seeing the show.

I've watched the show a few times...and it was ok. My husband watched a few episodes last night and he liked it more than I did.

Oh, did they bring this back? We watched season 1 over the summer and figured it got canceled. Now I have to check Hulu.

Warning this post may have spoilers if you've never seen the show. I discoverd the show several weeks ago when I couldn't sleep(it's on at like 1 at night here, or should I say morning), so I kind of got started in the middle of the epic. Some wonderful person downladed all the episodes on YouTube, and another wonderful person organized them all, so the last two days, I've been having a party of one (you know, all by myself) Legend of the Seeker marathon. When you see things starting from the first episode everything makes a lot more sense. I started at episode 1 part one, and I've gone all the way through episode 14 part 4. ETA, I'm done with all of season one now. Things I like The gorgeous scenery The costuming (I wouldn't mind having a wedding dress loosely based on Kahlan's white dress--similar in pattern, but with several changes....including the skirt not being in pieces of course). The romantic tension of Richard and Kahlan having a love for each other that they can never consummate...it's neat in a way, because you see them showing love for each other in other subtle ways. The way Richard, Kahlan and Zed willingly take on their task. The interesting supporting characters in each episode...loved the episode with that spoiled princess and the sweet servant girl. The (IMO) good acting. The fight of good vs. evil. It amazed me, too, how much of it parelellls to the Bible (the evil King killing firstborn sons when the Seeker was to be born--remind you of Herod, anyone?/good conquering evil even when the good are small in number and the evil are large in number/bearing trials/not betraying the good even when tortured). I admire Kahlan's ability to "rough it." I'm not so good at that, though this show is almost inspiring me....the campfires at least seem romantic, lol Things I don't like so much After using his sword, Richard never cleans it, before putting it back in the scabbard. In ancient warfare, that would be a huge no no. In that world, while, thankfully it's not blatant, it's obvious that relations outside of marriage aren't a big deal (Even the fact that Richard and Kahlan are forbidden from that isn't related to marriage, although they also couldn't get married). Some of the episodes (like the one in the crypt) make me feel slightly nervous, i.e. almost on occultish feel. Richard and Kahlan can be a little too impuslive (i.e. the innocent man's death, and the episode where they killed the D'haran soldier, but that soldier actually wante to kill Darken Rahl. I would think they would have been more perceptive in the episode where they thought that guy that was staying with Kahlan's friend was part of the resistance. I knew right away that he was a traitor. Then again, I guess it's easier for the viewer to see that. Things I wonder about If Richard and Kahlan's consummating their love wold cause him to be enslaved to her forever, and that's why they can't consummate their love, I wonder why they can still kiss, without that affect? In the episode where Zed proves he isn't that one woman's son's father, I don't understand why he had to reveal to Kahlan that he was Richard's grandfather in the same moment. Those two things weren't related. Things I wonder about regarding the book vs. TV show... I haven't read the books, but I read a review, which states that at some point in the books Richard and Kahlan do marry. So, I wonder if in the books, their love is not forbidden..IF YOU'VE READ THE BOOKS, DON'T TELL ME THOUGH, because I plan to read the books. I need to order them from the bookstore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More random thoughts I am starting to have a mild (pretendish) crush on Richard Craig Horner (Richard) and Bridget ___________(Kahlan)..have such good chemistry on screen, and neither are married........I wonder if they are or were an item in real life? I kind of feel sorry for Anna...here it was thought since their babyhood that she and Richard would marry..........but she seems understanding about it too. And when Darken Rahl is conquered will that barrier be lifted? I know the town Richard is from is nice, but I'm not so sure being stuck behind a barrier would be nice.

Hey, those are some great insights! I don't have time to address every point, but regarding "kissing", the idea is that actual sexual intercourse and orgasm would cause Kahlan to lose control of her power and Confess her lover.

ORIGINAL: OneOfHisJewels Ok, thanks Manimax, for explaining that. Thanks for posting too. I thought this thread was dying. No problemo! I think it is a smart, well acted, well scripted, well filmed series. Season 2 should be fun. And, FWIW, when series are between seasons, their threads here usually die pretty quickly.

he SFX of the squishy slashes by the blades into flesh and such are really vivid, which is supposed to be good, I guess, but it gets old and tiresome and kinda icky to me after a while. Yeah, I kind of get tired of people dying. But oh well. But watching people die in fantasy shows isn't as bad as watching them die on law and order and CSI and all that. I'm actually taking a break from all those shows because I watched so many they got me depressed. In a fantasy show I'm more able to remind myself that it is fake. I bought the first two books today! And I'm in the middle of chapter 6. So far, I don't find the TV series AS annoyingly off as some on the internet have complained. The TV series is just much more condensed, and the book has far more detail. Just think of the TV series as the "Wish Bone" version of the story. Elana, so glad you came back! Didn't mean to pester you in my pm, but was excited about this thread. In fact I was actually going to start a LOTS thread, but you beat me to it. I always liked Narnia, but never got in to Lord of the Rings, but this series is inspiring me to do so. Oh, Elana, I think season 2 debut is Nov 8 or 9.

I loooved season 1, which is surprising because I am really not a fan of middle-earth kind of fantasy stories. Kahlan is just too gorgeous to pass up. :)

Regarding words in white above: Ok, Richard only did that to a horrid bratty princess...and her tongue didn't fall out. Sorry, tried to make these white too...computer didn't let me. ---------------- Season 2 episode 1 was a little um......disturbing.... I don't like the fact that there is an "underwold" like a parellel to hell..but there is no parellel to heaven. Although I'm now in book2 and they are at least speaking of a "creator." Terry Goodkind's picture in the back of the books looks a little creepy. I hope he isn't into some weird (i.e. Satanic) things. ----------------------------------------------------------- Book Spoiler Alert I like the book and I like the show, but I think the show should have kept the mud people and the dragon Scarlet. Those were both essential parts of the story. OTOH, I think the whole MordSith thing is somewhat cleaned up for the show (which is good), and I think the whole Princess Violet/companion Rachel story was actually BETTER developed on the show.

OOHJ, There's an interesting profile of Terry Goodkind on the DVD special features for season 1. Will give you some insight into who he is and what he's all about. He seems kinda spiritual... but I don't know that he's a Christian. (I truly have no idea.) Not sure what's up with his making the story so long 'n' kooky over the course of the books. I looked up the synopses on Wikipedia, and following the storylines was a dizzying prospect. I think I might like the show better! And that's kinda sad, really. So... went to imdb.com to see if the first ep of season 2 is available to watch online. Not yet. At least not via that site. Oh well. Soon, I guess. Soon.

Ok, I finished book 2...the middle and end weren't as gross as the beginning.....I feel torn I want to know what happens to Richard and Kahlan ultimately...but there is also a dark feel to these books..... I did watch epi. 1 of season 2...some of it was creepy too but some good. Again, I really wish his world had a heaven as well as an underworld. P.S. At least in the books there seems to be a place for the "good spirits" in the underworld. In the movie all of the underworld seems hell-ish.
