Jesus said that he came to fulfill the law, but not to abolish it. How did Jesus fulfill the law and how are we to understand and apply the law in our lives today?

I believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law by taking the penalties for all transgressions against the Law on Himself. The Bible says that the Law was our tutor and now that we have the Spirit within us, we no longer need that tutor. Just as if I were a manager at a store and I needed a cashier. If someone named Jamie came and applied for the job, and they were a good fit for my store, and I were to hire them, then Jamie would fulfill that position. I would no longer be stressing about the position. I would no longer feel the burden of its not being occupied. How do I understand the Law and apply it in my life today? I understand by reading the Old Testament... and I believe God wants me to understand so that I am shown exactly what the standard for my life would be without the saving grace of Christ. I don't apply it in my life today, because I let the Holy Spirit guide me. I imagine it's much less stressful to simply turn my situation over to God rather than pouring over reams of text to find out if I can or cannot do something. Praise God!

Well it is interesting how the word fuilfill is used in the Scriptures, especially the way Matthew uses it. If one looks at the verses in Matthew where he says Scriptures were fulfilled by Yeshua, those passages, in the context they were originally written, do not refer to HaMeshiach. Some are messianic passages, some are events in the past that are similar to the events Matthew is comparing them to and some speak of characteristics that are considered messianic found in individuals mentioned it the Tanach(OT). Therefore, it is my view that, at least in the case of Mathews use of the term, the best way of viewing Yeshua fulfilling HaTorah is that He is a full representation of HaTorah.
