For discussion: How is Islam different than Christianity? Do the majority of Muslims want to wipe out Christianity and force Christians to convert? What is Islam's threat to Christianity and Western Civilization?

Thanks for starting this thread as I'm one who knows little about Islam. I have watched a few dicussions about it on christian tv, but not sure if they were portraying it correctly, even heard a testimoney from a former Muslim who had nothing good to say. I'll be readin' this one for sure.

Islam is completely different from Christianity. I have had many Muslim friends who describe their God as impersonal and hard to please. It is very works based in attempt to appease their God, and they say they will go to paradise if they live the perfect life. They think that we are infidels and that if we do not serve allah we should die. My friends have claimed to be of peace, but they are seriously in the minority. I've also had both friends who were born Muslim and others who have converted from christianity to Islam. In the US we are fairly tolerant, but in the Middle East where sharia law is imposed if a Muslim converts to Christianity they are either ostracized and cut off from their family or they are killed. I'm not trying to be senstionalist or putting down one over the other, but this has been my experience as well as what I have learned

I wonder if I went to a Moslem site, I could find a thread with exactly the same question - the other way round - and the exact same answer - the other way round....... I may have to settle on a paraphrase but I'm pretty sure the sentiment would be the same.

ORIGINAL: Eutychus For discussion: How is Islam different than Christianity? Islam (the works prove you worthy) is the antithesis of Christianity (the Gift by Grace creates your worthiness). Islam has the discipline of faith that Christianity lacks, but that discipline is used to enslave the Islamic believers, into works with no hope of pleasing their god. Christians, are the ones too lazy to credit God with being their God. Do the majority of Muslims want to wipe out Christianity and force Christians to convert? NO, BUT: The Fundamentalist Radicals, have the viciousness to force the Moderate Muslims to do radical things through guilt, and intimidation. Christians are in peril, as they/we tend to want to believe that moderate Muslim's would not turn against us, if pressured by the Radical Muslim's. What is Islam's threat to Christianity and Western Civilization? The Radical Fundamentalist Muslim require that all 'Non-Muslim' must convert, submit or die, and they can force the Moderate Muslim's, on threat of death, do as the extremist's demand, because of Koran, which states we must be destroyed, and will follow, for preservation sake if nothing else. Although the minority of Muslim believers desire to do harm to Jew and Christian, very little pressure would be necessary to overwhelm us, of the Faith of 'Loving the enemy.' Radical, fundamental, Islam is the enemy of any person, or faith, other than Islam as dictated by Koran, and all moderate (somewhat tainted by association with Christians and Jews) Muslims can easily be pressured into a hostile position, which would/could overwhelm Christianity/Judaism, except for one minor detail Islam has missed, YHVH/Yaushuah, our God, won't not allow that total destruction to transpire without a 'snuffing' of all Islam, should they arrive at a point of probable success. Islam does not threaten Christianity or Western Civilization. A very small minority does, but Islam itself should not be understood based upon this minority (just as Christianity should not be understood based upon the KKK). I do not think Islam has been developed from Satan. I think all humanity possesses some sense of God in their life. It seems thoroughly likely that a group of people, in pursuing this sense, might be led to a religion like Islam. As a Christian, I do think Christianity contains the 'complete', proper truth about God, his relationship to humanity, and the cosmos, but not everything in Islam is false. They are, for starters, monotheist (as are we). (Edited TOS 15)

They are, for starters, monotheist (as are we). As a Christian, as you say you are, you must be aware that God, the God of Abrahaham, Issac and Jacob, the One who told Moses His name was 'I AM' declares that He alone is God and there is no other (god). As the muslims do not believe in Christ as the Messiah or as anything other than a man, and Christ declared Himself the Son of God, in what way, shape or form do you compare the muslim monotheists to what a Christian believes? If I believe a tree is god, does that make me a monotheist too? If you really do believe that Christianity containes the 'complete' (why put it in quotation marks if you really believe) then you must, of that very belief, believe that Islam is false. The spirit behind this false religion is satanic.

What is Islam's threat to Christianity and Western Civilization? Apparently, they are better at converting then Christians are. Many are willing to die for what they believe. Islam intends world domination. Not conversion, domination. Many muslims in North America are here not to make a new life in this lovely free society of ours, as they would have us believe, but rather to convert much the way Christians do go, when going to other countries. quote:
Do the majority of Muslims want to wipe out Christianity and force Christians to convert? Do the majority of Christians really believe if you are not saved you will go to hell? Do their actions seem like they really believe that? I don't think so. My guess it works the same for the muslims.

I've been meaning to pickup a copy of the Koran for sometime. Just intellectual curiosity. I'm sure that like most religions it has it's fanatics and it's lovers of peace. We hear a lot about the extremists and those who wish to do Christianity/US/Western civilization harm. We also need to remember that Christians have wrought quite a bit of violence and hatred on the world in other ages. I sometimes wonder if God will ever lose his temper someday over how often his children hit eachother over the head with him.

Political correctness is the handmaiden of terrorism. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslims. IT only takes one lone wolf jihadist like Hasan to commit a terrorist act on US soil. Then add these nuts to the mix : quote:
A disgruntled Muslim soldier murdered his officers way back in 2003, in Kuwait, on the eve of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Recently? An American mullah shoots it out with the feds in Detroit. A Muslim fanatic attacks an Arkansas recruiting station. A Muslim media owner, after playing the peace card, beheads his wife. A Muslim father runs over his daughter because she’s becoming too Westernized. Muslim terrorist wannabes are busted again and again. And we’re assured that "Islam’s a religion of peace." I guarantee you that the Obama administration’s non-response to the Ft. Hood attack will mock the memory of our dead. Ralph Peters’ latest novel is "The War After Armageddon."

Right on CBerman..the politicians have made Muslims the boogey men to promote their "war on terror". Good way to control the masses. The average Muslims would like peace and live their lives out in their religion and custom. However the west, particularly the US does not allow that. They have to control everyone on the face of the planet, including the Muslims. So RCJames..yes the US does hold a gun to people's heads to convert them to the corrupt "capitalist" war mongerying system..this has created a lot of animosity in other countries, because unfortunately they falsely associate US and Britain as being Christian..and it then becomes a issue between Christians and Muslims..which it should not be. Violence begets violence Vengeance is mine says God Love your neighbour as yourself God bless us all.

Make no mistake about it. If Muslim terrorists ever got a toe hold here in the United States, a large number of "peace loving Muslims" would stand aside and let them kill us Christian "infidels". I remember a conversation with an American born Muslim coworker of my wife. It was back before Saddam Hussein was captured. No matter what I said, he would never denounce Saddam's behavior.

The "Civility Project" in practice.... Where is Islam from if not Satan? What I said was uncivil? Can you explain please in what way saying that I think a certain response is an oversimplification is uncivil? And, in answer to your question, "Where is Islam from if not Satan?", I'd answer that it probably came from the same place most religions came from - a human desire to relate to a god and understand the world around them. Does that mean I think they got it right? Not at all. And yes, I recognize that Satan is an author of confusion and that he has a large role to play in leading humanity down false paths, but I think it is an oversimplification to simply say "Islam comes from Satan", because there is more to it than that - there is also a very important human element to it, and the world is too complicated a place to simply place the labels: "from God" and "from Satan" on everything.
