Anyone have experience with this math in their kids' classes? Nick's school switched over to it last year and I cannot stand it. Pros that I have seen...it is very hands on, lots of manipulatives, etc. Cons...little to no drill work, no memorization of facts or concrete ways of solving problems.

I took a look at the website It looks to be a pretty good program for kids that like and learn via hands on activities. I do agree that IF it's partnered with basic fact drills, it seems to be a decent program. Our school doesn't use this particular curriculum but something similar for the lower grades but it is coupled with Otter Creek math All grades do Otter Creek at our school. Blessings, Garsy

This sounds familier and I don't think I cared for it much. I guess you could supplement if want.

It sounds a bit like what is used here, Everyday Math. There was supplementation of material for the math facts. I wasn't crazy about it. My son is in middle school this year where they use a more traditional math program and he is doing OK. I think it is one of those things that works well for some kids, but not so well for others. We use something similar in the school where I work, but they supplement with more "traditional" means of learning times tables and such. Education is like a cycle, everything comes back around. To be honest, schools are scrambling and grasping at every straw they can these days. Gone are the days of teachers just standing up and teaching a lesson. But teachers are measured by terms like "Adequate Yearly Progress." I am glad I teach music. You couldn't pay me enough to be a regular classroom teacher.

We got a letter today explaining the next section. Ugh and grrr. I hate this math. He struggles in school, and this is not going to help him! We have been having him work on flashcards and fact sheets whenever he's here.
